La (1,2 di-O-acetil-glicero-3-fosforil)colina in forma otticamente attiva o racema per trattamento con acqua assorbe una molecola d'acqua e cristallizza facilmente da solventi organici a media polarità.La forma idrata dei suddetti composti si presenta sottoforma di una polvere bianca, cristallina, non igroscopica con punto di fusione ben definito, inodore, di elevato grado di purezza, e solubile in acqua.Con questo tipo di prodotti si possono preparare dei formulati farmaceutici più maneggevoli e più stabili, che vengono utilizzati per il trattamento delle sindromi involutive cerebrali dell'anziano, per il trattamento della dislipidemia e della iperlipoproteinemia.
