（式中、Ｒ１及びＲ２は、同一または異なって、水素、ヒドロキシルメチル基、メルカプトメチル基、置換もしくは非置換のアルコキシメチル基、置換もしくは非置換のアルキルチオメチル基、置換もしくは非置換のアルケニルオキシメチル基、または置換もしくは非置換のアルケニルチオメチル基を表し、Ｒ３は、アルキル基を表す）で表される化合物（Ｋ２５２ａ誘導体）［以下、一般式（Ｉ）で表される化合物を化合物（Ｉ）という。他の式番号の化合物についても同様である］は、アルツハイマー病などの神経変性疾患の治療に有益な化合物である［Ｊ．Ｍｅｄ．Ｃｈｅｍ．，４０，１８６３−１８６９（１９９７）、特表平６−５０４７３１、ＷＯ９６／１３５０６］。
