- 第1電極と第2電極との間に電気泳動層が挟持された画素を複数備え、前記第1電極の電位が前記第2電極の電位よりも高い場合に前記第1電極と前記第2電極との間に生じる電位差を第1の極性とし、前記第1電極の電位が前記第2電極の電位よりも低い場合に前記第1電極と前記第2電極との間に生じる電位差を第2の極性としたとき、前記画素の表示状態として、前記第1の極性の電圧が前記画素に供給されることによって第1表示状態が選択され、前記第2の極性の電圧が前記画素に供給されることによって第2表示状態が選択され、前記第1表示状態と前記第2表示状態のうち一方の表示状態にある一の画素に対して前記第1表示状態と前記第2表示状態のうち他方の表示状態を選択するために印加される電圧の総持続時間に応じて、前記第1表示状態と前記第2表示状態との間の中間調状態が選択される電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法であって、
前記第1の極性の第1の電圧パルスを、前記複数の画素のうち前記第1表示状態にある第1の画素に供給する第1のステップと、

を含むことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。 - 第1電極と第2電極との間に電気泳動層が挟持された画素を複数備え、前記第1電極の電位が前記第2電極の電位よりも高い場合に前記第1電極と前記第2電極との間に生じる電位差を第1の極性とし、前記第1電極の電位が前記第2電極の電位よりも低い場合に前記第1電極と前記第2電極との間に生じる電位差を第2の極性としたとき、前記画素の表示状態として、前記第1の極性の電圧が前記画素に供給されることによって第1表示状態が選択され、前記第2の極性の電圧が前記画素に供給されることによって第2表示状態が選択され、前記第1表示状態と前記第2表示状態のうち一方の表示状態にある一の画素に対して前記第1表示状態と前記第2表示状態のうち他方の表示状態を選択するために印加される電圧の総持続時間に応じて、前記第1表示状態と前記第2表示状態との間の中間調状態が選択される電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法であって、
前記第2の極性の第1の電圧パルスを、前記複数の画素のうち前記第1表示状態にある第1の画素に供給する第1のステップと、
前記第1のステップより後に、前記第1の極性の第2の電圧パルスを、前記第1の画素に供給し、第3表示状態とする第2のステップと、
前記第2の極性で、且つ前記第1の電圧パルスの持続時間より長い持続時間を有する第3の電圧パルスを、前記複数の画素のうち前記第1表示状態にある第2の画素に供給する第3のステップと、
前記第3のステップより後に、前記第2の電圧パルスを前記第2の画素に供給し、前記第3表示状態と前記第2表示状態との間の第4表示状態とする第4のステップと
を含むことを特徴とする電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記第1の極性の第4の電圧パルスを、前記複数の画素のうち前記第2表示状態にある第3の画素に供給する第5のステップと、
前記第5のステップより後に、前記第2の極性の第5の電圧パルスを、前記第3の画素に供給し、第5表示状態とする第6のステップと、
前記第1の極性で、且つ前記第4の電圧パルスの持続時間より短い持続時間を有する第6の電圧パルスを、前記複数の画素のうち前記第2表示状態にある第4の画素に供給する第7のステップと、
前記第7のステップより後に、前記第5の電圧パルスを前記第4の画素に供給し、前記第5表示状態と前記第2表示状態との間の第6表示状態とする第8のステップと
を更に含むことを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。 - 前記第2のステップ及び前記第4のステップより後に、前記第2の極性の第7の電圧パルスを、前記第1の画素と第2の画素とに供給するステップを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項2に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
- 前記第6のステップ及び前記第8のステップより後に、前記第1の極性の第8の電圧パルスを、前記第3の画素と第4の画素に供給するステップを更に含むことを特徴とする請求項3に記載の電気泳動表示装置の駆動方法。
