Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a small-sized ultra-high foaming insulated wire by adding azodicarbonamide to high density polyethylene, and, after extruding the mixture to cover the circumference of a conductor, heating it over the decomposing temperature of azodicarbonamide for foaming. CONSTITUTION:A compound that contains 0.5 to 20 weight part of azodicarbonamide, in relation 100 weight part of a high-pressure method polyethylene with its density over 0.924 also contained therein is mixed and kneaded to be homogenous. Then, the compound, after being heated under the decomposing temperature of azodicarbonamide, is extruded to cover the circumference of a conductor, exposed to ionizing radiation to undergo bridge formation, and then heated over the decomposing temperature of azodicarbonamide to develop a foam insulator, thereby resulting in production of a small-sized, highly foaming polyethylene insulated wire. As a result it is possible to reduce significantly the fraction of the total volume for wires in an electronic device or the like, thereby bringing about great benefits such as compact size the device and accelerated transmission of signal information.

A generally known method for producing foamed polyethylene insulated wires is to supply polyethylene containing a chemical foaming agent to an extruder, melt and knead it at a temperature equal to or higher than the decomposition temperature of the foaming agent, and extrude and coat the outer periphery of the conductor. In this method, the decomposed gas of the blowing agent tends to scatter, and various measures are required to obtain a high degree of foaming of 50% or more. For example, a plastic mixture containing a blowing agent is crosslinked, followed by heat foaming [
In recent years, in order to reduce the diameter of TL wires and to transmit information at high speed, there has been a demand for thin highly foamed insulated wires with an outer diameter of 0.9 mm or less and a foaming degree of 70% or more. It's here.

First, because the foaming ratio is extremely high, minute deformations, scratches, uneven thickness, outside diameter fluctuations, etc. of the insulator before foaming are magnified after foaming, resulting in a significant loss of uniformity. Next, since it becomes a highly foamed material, its mechanical strength decreases, and its outer diameter changes due to compression during the Tt, wire twisting, and jacket covering steps. This change in outer diameter is directly related to the impedance of the wire and is therefore a fatal drawback.

[Means for Solving the Problems] In the present invention, 0.0 parts of azodicarbonamide is added to 100 parts of high-pressure polyethylene having a density of 0.924 or more.
A compound containing 5 to 20 parts by weight is extrusion coated on the outer periphery of the conductor at a temperature below the decomposition temperature of azodicarbonamide, and then 'i! A method for producing a small-diameter, highly foamed polyethylene insulated wire that is crosslinked by irradiation with dissociative radiation and then heated to a temperature higher than the decomposition temperature of azodicarbonamide to form a foamed insulator, and an insulated wire made by this method. .

[Example] If the density of the insulator is 0.924 or more, the mechanical strength of the foam is high and it can withstand the compression applied during the twisting of 'rtt wires and the jacket covering process. It is also less susceptible to scratches and deformation before foaming. The higher the density, the better.

If the density is less than 0.924, it will be difficult to finally obtain a uniform highly foamed wire. For this reason, high-pressure polyethylene is a necessary condition for obtaining a high degree of foaming.

Polyethylene is classified by polymerization method into low-pressure polyethylene, medium-pressure polyethylene, and high-pressure polyethylene. As a result of various studies on these polyethylenes, only high-pressure polyethylene was found to have a high degree of foaming. The reasons for this are not clear, but include the excellent dispersibility of the blowing agent (azodicarbonamide), the uniform distribution of the crosslinked structure, and the excellent appearance during extrusion molding.
It is thought that the fact that there is little change in the outer diameter during extrusion molding results in an electric wire with a high degree of foaming.
