Abstract

PURPOSE:To economize timer resources and reduce the load for monitor of an adapter by operating various flags to monitor the abnormality of the adapter in accordance with issues and completion of a command and the report of time-out from an independently started timer. CONSTITUTION:A command processing part 4 sets a command flag 7 in accordance with issue of a command from a main body 1 to an adapter 2 and rests the command flag 7 at the time of completion of the command. A NOP command flag 8, a time-out flag 6, and one timer 9 are provided, and these flags are operated in accordance with issue and completion of the command and the report of time-out to discriminate the abnormality of the adapter.

[Detailed Description of the Invention] [Summary] Regarding the adapter monitoring method for monitoring the adapter, a plurality of flags are provided to associate the monitoring timer with command issuance, and the startup of the monitoring timer can be restarted regardless of command issuance or completion. In order to save timer resources and reduce the load for repeatedly monitoring the adapter, we set a command flag to be set when a command is issued to the adapter, a timeout flag to be set when the command times out, and a command to be issued to the adapter. A command processing unit that sets the above command flag when the command is completed, and resets the command flag and the timeout flag when a command completion is received from the adapter, and when the timeout flag is set in response to a timeout notification from the timer. It is determined that the adapter is abnormal.
On the other hand, the adapter is configured to include a timeout processing section that sets a timeout flag and restarts a timer when the timeout flag is not set, and monitors for adapter abnormality. Additionally, we have added a new NOP command flag that is reset upon timeout and set each time a command is issued or completed.
Taking the timeout notification as a trigger, if the above timeout flag, command flag, and newly provided NOP command flag are set, the timeout flag is set and a NOP command is issued to the adapter, and the next timeout notification is used as a trigger. , the adapter is configured to be determined to be abnormal if the timeout flag has not been reset due to completion of the command corresponding to the issuing of the Mop command.

[Prior art and problems to be solved by the invention] Conventionally, monitoring whether a communication control adapter is operating normally has been done by:
As shown in FIG. 6(a), processing is performed depending on whether or not the time from when a processing request (command) is issued to the communication control adapter until a completion response is returned has not timed out. That is, a command is issued to the communication control adapter, a timer is started, and each time a command is issued, it is monitored whether a completion response is returned within the timeout time t0 measured by the timer.

For this reason, as the number of commands issued increases, the number of timer activations for monitoring increases, and in the case of full-duplex communication, it is necessary to activate multiple monitoring timers at the same time. There was a problem in that the load for this would further increase. In addition, a command for only asynchronous event notification to the communication control adapter (
Because of this timer monitoring, READ) also has the problem of having to make an empty completion response within a certain period of time, as shown in FIG. 6(b), even though there is no response event.

The present invention provides a plurality of flags that relate the monitoring timer and command issuance, and enables the start of the monitoring timer to be activated by command issuance.
The purpose of this is to repeatedly restart the adapter regardless of its completion, thereby saving timer resources and reducing the load for monitoring the adapter.

(1) In the adapter monitoring method that monitors the adapter, there are a command flag (7) that is set when a command is issued to the adapter (2), and a timeout flag (7) that is set when a timeout occurs.
6) Set the above command flag (7) when issuing a command to adapter (2), and reset the above command flag (7) and the above timeout flag (6) when command completion is received from adapter (2). Triggered by a timeout notification from the timer (9) and the command processing unit (4), it is determined that the adapter is abnormal if the timeout flag (6) is set;
) is not set, the timeout processing unit (5) sets the timeout flag (6) and restarts the timer (9), and is configured to monitor adapter abnormalities. Adapter monitoring method.
