Generally, flat display tubes such as fluorescent display tubes and plasma display panels have a structure in which electrode terminals are taken out using metal pin leads. This pin lead is usually attached by soldering to a terminal portion formed by printing and firing silver paste or the like on the base material of the display tube. In addition, to improve environmental resistance, the soldered parts are protected by coating with epoxy resin or the like.

This flat display tube is usually mounted on a printed circuit board together with display tube driver elements and the like. The mounting method is to pass the pin leads extending vertically from the display tube through through holes in the printed circuit board and solder them. By the way, a display tube mounted on a printed circuit board can be held by pin leads alone, but it is very weak against mechanical forces such as vibrations and shocks, so a spacer for holding the display tube is used between the display tube and the printed circuit board. It is placed between the boards. Spacers are generally placed at both longitudinal ends of the display tube to ensure mechanical strength.

However, it has been found that the above structure has significant drawbacks to temperature changes. That is, printed circuit boards on which circuit components are mounted are subject to considerable warpage and deflection due to temperature changes. Therefore, when the display tube and printed circuit board are fixed at both longitudinal ends of the display tube with spacers as described above, pressure and tension are applied to the pin leads in the center as the temperature changes, causing damage to the terminals of the display tube. This will destroy the soldered part of the pin lead.

That is, the present invention provides spacers for fixing the flat display tube to a printed circuit board at at least three locations, at both ends of the flat display tube in the longitudinal direction and at the center. By providing this, this purpose was achieved.

Figures 1a and 1b show an embodiment of the present invention. 1 is a flat display tube, and 2 is a printed circuit board. Circuit components such as display tube driver elements are mounted on the printed circuit board, but are omitted in this figure. 3,4
are spacers located at both longitudinal ends of the display tube, and 5 is a spacer located at the center. The spacer is made of baking material or the like, and is fixed to the display tube and printed circuit board with double-sided adhesive tape or adhesive.

Now, if there is no spacer 5 in the center, the printed circuit board will deform as shown by the broken line in Figure 1c due to temperature changes, and the pin lead in the center, for example,
It will cause damage to. When a flat display tube with a length of about 250 mm was fixed only with the spacers 3 and 4 at both ends, poor contact of the pin leads in the center occurred during temperature cycles from -20°C to +55°. on the other hand,
When three spacers are used as in the present invention shown in Figures 1a and b, the deformation of the printed circuit board can be clearly suppressed, and the same flat display tube as above can be used for temperature cycles from -40℃ to +70℃. However, no damage occurred to the pin leads.

As described above, the present invention can greatly improve the environmental resistance of a device using a flat display tube.
