In this type of printer, a print head mounted on a carriage rubs against the ink ribbon during movement, and printing elements such as a print hammer strike the ink ribbon and recording paper at high frequencies, generating static electricity. In recent years, carriages have been made of engineering plastic, so
Static electricity generated on the print head when the head is moved has nowhere to go and accumulates in the print head, eventually discharging and causing printer malfunctions and, in severe cases, failure.

In Figures 1 and 2, printer base plate 1
A guide shaft 3 is attached to a side plate 2 fixed to the side plate 2, and a carriage 4 is fitted onto the guide shaft 3 so as to be slidable left and right. The carriage 4 is made of plastic, and a head support plate 6 connected to the metal part of the print head 5 is connected to the carriage 4 through screws 7.
It is fixed on the top surface. flexible cable 8
In addition to the normal signal lines 8a and 8b, the ground line 8
The signal lines 8a and 8b are connected to the input terminals 5a and 5b of the print head 5, and the ground line 8
c is connected to the head support plate 6 via screws 7. On the other hand, a connector 9 is provided on the printer base plate 1 and is connected to a print head drive circuit via a cable (not shown), and signals 8a and 8b are connected to this connector 9 as shown in the third figure.
The ground wire 8c passes through the connector 9 and is connected to the printer base plate 1 via a screw 10. Of course, it goes without saying that the printer base plate 1 is one of the printer parts that is at ground potential.

When the carriage 4 moves along the guide shaft 3, a drive signal is applied to the print head 5 via the signal lines 8a and 8b of the cable 8, and a desired print is made on the recording paper 12. At this time, the printing elements (not shown) of the printing head 5 strike the ink ribbon 11 against the recording paper 12 at a high frequency, and the ink ribbon 11 rubs against the printing head 5, thereby causing the printing head to 5. Static electricity is generated.

However, this static electricity is dropped onto the printer base plate 1 through the head support plate 6 connected to the metal part of the print head 5, the screw 7 for its attachment, the ground wire 8c of the cable 8, and the screw 10. Therefore, static electricity does not accumulate on the print head 5.

In the above embodiment, the ground wire 8c of the cable 8 may be directly connected to the metal part of the print head 5.

According to the present invention, even if the carriage is made of an insulating material, static electricity does not accumulate in the print head, so that malfunction or failure of the print head 5 due to static electricity can be prevented. Furthermore, the above-mentioned countermeasure against static electricity can be implemented very easily by simply providing a ground wire to the signal cable of the printing head to remove static electricity.
