Abstract

PURPOSE:To bevel the inner and outer edges of opening of a tubular work in single process by forming a recessed cutter section at a corner section or a side section of a throw-away chip body thereby increasing the number of cutters in the body. CONSTITUTION:A throw-away chip 1 is secured by fitting a fixing hole 4 to a pin 7 at a chip receiving section at the tip of a holder 6, and a work 5 is rotated around the horizontal axis. Then the holder 6 is entered into the opening of the work 5 and lifted in the direction of an arrow (i) in order to cut an end face 5a by means of a cutter at a corner section 4a. Upon finish of cutting of the upper face of the endface 5a, the holder 6 is stopped temporarily from lifting and faced with the end face 5a which has finished cutting of a recessed cutter section 3. Then the holder 6 is advanced with respect to the work 5 in order to bevel the inner and outer circumferential edges of the endface 5a simultaneously by means of both cutters 3a, 3a at the recessed cutter section 3.
