More specifically, the present invention relates to a laminate connector comprising a non-conductive elastomer layer and a conductive elastomer layer, the conductive elastomer layer being an electrical contact. In particular, the present invention relates to an elastomer laminated structure used to electrically connect two or more sets of conductors that are placed close to each other in a one-to-one relationship, and each set of conductors is closely spaced. It consists of multiple conductors fixedly arranged.

Some connectors contain sharp-edged contacts that must be inserted through insulation or insulating film to create a suitable electrical contact, without bending, damaging, or bending the conductor.
It also applies stress.

This type of electrical contact is typically expensive to manufacture and difficult to incorporate into a connector. However, such contacts are generally difficult to manufacture reproducibly, occupy an undesirable volume when manufactured, and are susceptible to fatigue during continuous use.

It must be ensured that only the correct corresponding conductor or conductors of the set are contacted. Such alignment is generally achieved by spaced holes in the connector containing corresponding contacts. When large numbers of contacts are arranged in this manner, or when contacts are repeatedly opened and closed, misalignments, wear, bends, shorts, and other circuit failures commonly occur. Also, this type of permanent or semi-permanent electrical connection is undesirable or impossible. Metal-to-metal contacts undergo surface friction due to the sliding action of the initial contact and eventually corrode, increasing contact resistance. The actual contact area of a metal-to-metal contact is typically less than one-thousandth of the total surface of the metal contact. If moisture and harmful atmospheres are allowed to enter, they will migrate between the contact surfaces and rapidly degrade the quality of the electrical bond.

いた。As a prior art related to the present invention, there is an elastic connector that can conduct electrically in response to a change in compression state or a change in temperature (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 46-6179). However, since the conductive rubber part of this invention is of a so-called dot type, the volumetric efficiency is poor in taking out the electrode almost perpendicularly from the planar wiring part of the printed wiring board, and a large one is inevitably required to flow the same current. , it was unsuitable for compactness and high density. Furthermore, it is not easy to manufacture, and in addition, conduction cannot be achieved unless it is compressed to a high degree, so it has the problem that accurate response cannot be ensured.

Because the number of layers in any case is usually large compared to the number of conductors, connectors provide self-aligning by allowing electrical contact only between two or more corresponding pairs of connected conductors. conduct. The layers are generally parallel to each other and approximately perpendicular to the surfaces of the conductors they contact. The thicknesses of the layers do not have to be the same, and in some cases it is advantageous to set specific thicknesses for the conductive and/or non-conductive layers.

This provides vibration absorption and cushioning effects not available with undamped flexible metal connectors. This damped and flexibly supported conductor surface means that
Also, after contact is made, the conductor surfaces are hermetically sealed, preventing harmful fluids from entering the contact surfaces of the conductors, thereby preventing corrosion.

Because each layer is uniquely thin, it is possible to arrange conductors at a higher density at the connection points than in the past. The connector piece can be repeatedly bent and compressed without losing its mechanical strength or conductivity.

Silicone rubbers are usually dimethyl, methyl-phenyl, methyl-
There are halogenated siloxanes mixed with fillers such as vinyl or silica to give suitable rheological properties, and vulcanized or cured with perotides or metal salts. Silicone rubber is generally preferred because of its aging properties and retention of physical properties at extreme temperatures. That is, silicone resin is preferable because it has excellent durability and price stability. The elastomer used must be stable in shape. In other words, it must not undergo excessive deformation due to its own weight or undergo plastic deformation after hardening.

It tends to wrinkle and prevent the connector from resiliently recovering when released. Therefore, it is desirable that the connector be constructed solely of alternating layers of electrically conductive and non-conductive elastomeric resin. Integrity (i.e., uniformity of elastomeric material) can be improved by using the same elastomer for both the conductive and non-conductive layers, with differences in conductivity only being determined by suitable fillers. This can only occur by choosing.

The thickness must be selected to avoid poor electrical effects due to the close proximity of adjacent conductive layers under the intended conditions of use. 0
.. A thin elastomer layer of 0.003 inches or 0.03 inches.
Although it is possible to make laminate connectors with satisfactory performance using thicknesses as thick as 125 inches,
From practical standpoints such as quality, ease of assembly, and economy, in certain situations where the layer is characterized by a thickness of 0.040 inch or less and 0.001 inch or more, - A one-to-one correspondence with the conductors in the set of conductors is desirable.

A sheet of electrically conductive elastomer is sprayed, cast, placed in a mold, extruded or rolled separately and, with the addition of the necessary binder, placed on top of the elastomer described above. Other methods of assembling the conductive layer include spraying, vacuum deposition, or electrolytic plating of the metal onto a preformed nonconductive plate. The process of placing a conductive plate on top of a non-conductive plate is repeated many times to stack the plates to an appropriate height to form a single block. Other plates of modified material may also be included in this block forming process. The board block is then post-cured to bind all boards together. This block is then cut approximately perpendicular to the plate to obtain slabs containing alternating conductive and non-conductive layers. These slabs are then further divided or combined if necessary depending on the individual circumstances.

A continuous non-conductive elastomer strip, shown as 60 in FIG. 7, is used as a base or substrate from which the electrically conductive elastomer 62 can be extruded or calendered as a continuous layer. Successive layers of conductive elastomer 62 along with continuous non-conductive elastomer 60 are then wrapped around a drum 64, preferably octagonal or similarly shaped. It is convenient to manufacture it by inserting it between two laminates 46.
