The present invention has a high degree of water-soluble surfactants and water-soluble compounds in the aqueous phase, and reduced levels of ammonium ions, resulting in substantially reduced ammonia gas production and more aesthetically pleasing effects. TECHNICAL FIELD The present invention relates to hair bleaching compositions. Any method involving the treatment of hair must take into account a large number of variables. Bleaching is basically a method for removing natural color from hair. The color of the hair, ie the degree of hair lightening desired by the customer, will vary from simply highlighting the hair to the lightest blonde. The bleaching composition must therefore be capable of moderate to high lightening and all degrees of lightening in between. Moreover, the entire head of hair or only a portion of it, ie the new growth or "root area", may be bleached. Bleaching compositions for streaking frosting or chipping may be self-applied or assisted by the operator to obtain special blondening effects. Bleaching compositions used on hair, in addition to oxidizing and destroying the coloring melanin in the hair, do not come into contact with human skin, unlike those used for fibers, textiles, hard surface cleaning, etc. The hair must be suitable for use and must not be unduly damaging to the hair. Furthermore, since hair bleaching agents are a member of the class of materials known as cosmetics, it is desirable that they be aesthetically acceptable to the user. Finally, it is desirable for hair bleaching compositions to remove melanin coloration from hair as efficiently as possible, both for convenience and to help prevent damage to the hair and irritation to the skin and scalp. Most bleaching systems require exposure of the hair from a few minutes to about 2 to 3 hours, depending on the degree of bleaching desired. Hair bleaching agents typically consist of peroxide oxidizing agents, bleach enhancers, and various additional cosmetic agents and bleach stabilizers. Oxidizing agents such as various hypochlorites and halogenated cyanuric acid compounds suitable for use on hard surfaces and in fabric bleaches are too damaging and irritating to the skin to be used on hair. It's not appropriate. Peroxide bleach used on hair must be "activated";
This is done by adjusting the pH to a basic range using a chemical agent. The most common material for adjusting the PH of peroxide hair bleaching compositions is an aqueous solution of ammonia (commonly referred to as ammonium hydroxide). The prior art has shown that some compounds, namely hydrogen peroxide and peroxy compounds, such as hydrogen peroxide-generating compounds such as persulfates, perborates, percarbonates, are used to bleach the keratinous material of human hair. Discloses that it is effective. To increase the rate of bleaching using these hydrogen peroxide products, an activator is used with the hydrogen peroxide, and the activator is generally ammonium, an alkali metal hydroxide, or an alkali metal hydroxide producing compound. Hair lightening lotions used in two- and three-component systems typically contain 2 to 5.5% by weight ammonium hydroxide. Generally, at least half of this amount will not be neutralized and will remain in the lotion.
Exists as NH 3 H 2 O. Neutralized and non-neutralized ammonium ion bleach systems currently used by consumers have a characteristic ammonia odor.
As a result, bleach mixtures are not as aesthetic to use as other cosmetic products. However, if ammonia or ammonium hydroxide is replaced by a higher molecular weight non-volatile amine, the resulting bleach mixture is more damaging to keratin hair fibers (for the same degree of brightness). . For example, US Pat. No. 2,283,350 to Baum discloses the use of aliphatic amines and hydroxyaliphatic amines as substitutes for ammonium hydroxide in hair bleaching compositions. Additionally, US Pat. No. 3,816,615 to Zeffren et al. discloses hair bleaching agents containing guanidine compounds in place of ammonium hydroxide. Additionally, to be effective, the bleach composition must
It must remain in place for the time necessary to lighten the hair and maintain the appropriate alkalinity and moisture required to continue the bleaching action while in place. The bleaching composition must form a foam of limited height and viscosity sufficient to keep the bleaching ingredients and released oxygen in contact with the hair. Conventional bleaching compositions known in the art contain significant amounts of various types of water-soluble thickeners,
This is done by incorporating oils as well as fillers. For example, the US patent to Cohen
3651209 describes the use of calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate, calcined gypsum and other inert fillers such as talc, kaolin and bentonite as suitable thickening agents for bleaching compositions. "White henna" (ie, mixtures of magnesium carbonate and magnesium oxide, magnesium trisilicate, etc.) and other insoluble adsorbent materials have also been described as useful aids in building viscosity in bleaching compositions. It is further known that currently used hair lightening lotions contain substantial amounts of water-insoluble esters, alcohols, ethoxylates and/or propoxylates to create viscosity. The most common alcohol used is
It is a C18 oleyl derivative. Water-insoluble surfactants form a gel when the lotion is mixed with an aqueous peroxide solution. The use of a water-insoluble gel helps retain the bleach mixture on the hair and prevents it from coming out of the hair shaft. However, the use of water-insoluble surfactants greatly affects the brightening ability of the bleach mixture. High levels of ammonia are required to overcome reduced bleaching activity. Studies have shown that the brightening ability of bleach systems decreases as surfactants become water insoluble. The functional groups of the surfactants appear to have little effect on the efficiency of the resulting bleach mixture as long as water solubility is maintained. Therefore, an improvement is needed that has little unpleasant ammonia odor throughout the bleaching operation and has a suitable consistency to provide good lightening results while keeping the amount of hair damage induced by bleaching at a minimum level. It has surprisingly been found that this can be accomplished by keeping both the water-insoluble components and amine levels to a minimum in order to provide a peroxygen bleaching composition. As a result, lightener lotion formulations can contain surfactants that produce a soluble gel when mixed with peroxide and/or persulfuric acid. The above criteria for solubility/gel formation place practical limits on the types of surfactants that can be used. In one aspect, the present invention comprises (a) 2 to 20% by weight, based on the total composition, of ammonium salts, alkali metal salts, and alkaline earth metal perboric acids, persulfuric acids, percarbonates, and carbonic acid peroxides; (b) 1.5 to 7% by weight of hydrogen peroxide; (c) 4 to 13% by weight of a water-insoluble surfactant thickener; (d) at least 4% by weight of a water-insoluble surfactant thickener; % by weight of at least one water-soluble surfactant thickener; and (e) a non-hair damaging alkalizing agent in an amount sufficient to maintain the composition at a pH of 9 to 12; and (f) ammonium. The ionic concentration is in the range 0.15-0.55% by weight based on the total composition, so that only trace ammonia gas is produced as a result of the interaction of these components with each other or with the hair, and ( g) An aqueous thickening, low ammonia hair bleaching composition characterized in that the ratio of water-soluble surfactant thickener to water-insoluble surfactant thickener is in the range of 1.8:1 to 7.0:1. In another aspect of the present invention, each of the lotion component, the activator component, and the developer component is 1
a combination article packaged separately in individual containers, characterized in that the ingredients can be mixed immediately before use to form the aqueous thickened, low ammonia hair bleaching composition described above. It is in a combination article. In addition, the compositions according to the invention each have a
wt% sequestrant, 1.5wt% viscosity modifier,
and 2% by weight of at least one additional water-insoluble component selected from the group consisting of perfumes, oils, opacifiers, and dyes. Suitably, the compositions according to the invention each contain about 6
8.5 mole ethoxylated coconut fatty acids may be included as a water-soluble surfactant thickener. Besides, the PH of the resulting composition is preferably about 9.7-10.3. The water - soluble surfactant thickener has the following formula : 7 is a divalent alkylene residue having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, n
is a number from 0 to 150); (b) an alkylene glycol or alkylene glycol ether alcohol of the formula (R 8 COO) a M where R 8 is a hydrocarbon moiety of a long-chain fatty acid having 10 to 20 carbon atoms; (c) a polyoxyalkylated long chain fatty alcohol; (c) a polyoxyalkylated long chain fatty alcohol;

and (d) mixtures thereof. can. The present thickened hair bleaching composition according to the invention comprises:
Generally has a viscosity in the range of 5000 to 100000 centipoise. As previously mentioned, it is a commonly accepted practice to include amines or quaternary ammonium compounds in peroxygen bleaching compositions to obtain activation during the bleaching process. Surprisingly, bleaching studies have shown ammonium ion concentrations of 0.55% or less based on the total composition weight, while at the same time
It has been shown that very good lightening (resulting in minimal hair damage) can be obtained with lotions having an aqueous phase making up 100% by weight. Studies have also shown that hair lightening is not affected by the basicity of ammonia, i.e. ammonia is normally present either as free NH 3 H 2 O or as neutralized ammonium ions, NH 4 + . It has been shown that it is possible to From a cosmetic point of view, ammonium ions are preferred over free ammonia. NH 3 , NH 3 ·H 2 O, NH 4 OH, NH 4 + and OH -
Because of the equilibrium between them, it is not possible for only one species to be present in the aqueous medium. The relative proportions of ammonia to ammonium can also be influenced by other chemical techniques that affect the various concentrations in PH, ionic strength, pressure, and equilibrium constant. However, as taught herein, simply reducing the amine or quaternary ammonium content, without also maintaining higher concentrations of water-soluble components, or vice versa, will not result in satisfactory hair lightening. It does not produce any effect. Furthermore, the lightening caused by lower amine or quaternary ammonium concentrations can be achieved by using higher concentrations of peroxygen compounds, alkaline ingredients, longer times to bleach the hair, or higher temperatures during the bleaching process. Attempts to offset the deterioration of hair loss result in an unsatisfactory level of damage to the hair. It is the intention of the present invention to adjust the formulation in such a way as to favor the production of ammonium ions and to keep the actual free ammonia concentration as close as possible to the value indicated by the equilibrium constant. One of the essential ingredients present in the bleach composition according to the invention is at least one peroxide compound in a useful concentration range of about 2-20%, preferably 6-8%. It is noted that, unless otherwise indicated, all percentages herein are by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The percompound provides, besides hydrogen peroxide, an additional source of oxygen evolution necessary for bleaching. The above peroxide compounds include perboric acid, persulfuric acid, percarbonic acid,
and ammonium peroxide carbonate salts, alkali metal salts and alkaline earth metal salts, but are not limited thereto. As used herein throughout the specification, the terms "alkali metal" and "alkaline earth metal" have their commonly accepted meanings in the art. It is also essential that hydrogen peroxide be present in a useful concentration range of about 1.5-7% to obtain hair bleaching. A stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide, such as fenaseken, may also be present in small amounts. Preferably the hydrogen peroxide concentration is about 3.2-3.7%. The third essential ingredient obtains the peroxide activation necessary for bleach enhancement and also serves as a PH regulator and thickens the composition by forming a water-soluble soap gel with fatty acids. It is a water-soluble amine or quaternary ammonium compound that helps. The most frequently used and preferred amine or quaternary ammonium compound is ammonium hydroxide because it is readily available and effective as a peroxide activator. However, morpholine, mono-, di-, and trialkanolamines, and mono-, di-, and trialkylamines (provided that the alkyl or alkanol substituent has a carbon chain length of 1 to 4 carbon atoms)
Other less effective amines, such as amines selected from the group consisting of at least one of the following or quaternary ammonium compounds, can be used, typically in higher amounts. As mentioned above, the ammonium ion concentration in the aqueous phase of the bleaching composition prevents the formation of more than a trace of ammonia gas by the composition during the hair bleaching process, thereby overcoming the problems associated with the prior art. and produce desirable effects as cosmetics.
It is important that it be lower than about 0.55%. The resulting ammonium ion concentration is therefore directed by a number of factors, the most important of which is the amount of ammonium compounds, including ammonium percompounds, present in the composition that can ionize in water to produce ammonium ions. It is. Also affecting the concentration of ammonium ions is the amount of other compounds, such as fatty acid compounds, that react with (ie, neutralize) ammonium ions. Finally, there are factors associated with solution state equilibrium between ammonium ion, ammonium hydroxide, and ammonia gas. Furthermore, it has been observed that the use of amines in place of ammonium hydroxide does not result in the formation of ammonium ions and requires large amounts due to lower efficiency compared to ammonium hydroxide. It is essential to include at least 4% by weight of at least one water-soluble surfactant thickener. These are well known to those skilled in the art. For example, the water-soluble surfactant thickener described above is
U.S. Pat. No. 3,811,830 to Domarco, issued May 21, 1974 and incorporated herein by reference.
It is described as a "coupling agent" in columns 5, line 29 to column 6, line 56. Other useful ones include ethoxylated laurate esters of sorbitol and their anhydrides with 80 moles of ethylene oxide etc. (Tween 80); acid ethoxylates of distearic acid etc. with 150 moles of ethylene oxide (PEG6000 distearate); It is a block copolymer of ethylene oxide and propylene oxide (Pluronics). A preferred surfactant is coconut fatty acid ethoxylated with 8.5 moles of ethylene oxide. A useful PH range for using the bleaching compositions disclosed herein is about 9-12, but preferably about 9.7-10.3. Below a PH of 9, insufficient bleaching action occurs; above, excessive hair damage occurs. It has been found that buffering agents or PH regulators are essential to maintain a suitable PH range. In addition to the alkalinity provided by amines or quaternary ammonium compounds, useful agents are alkali metal metasilicates, such as sodium metasilicate; alkali metal carbonates, ortho, meta, and tripolyphosphates. Finally, water is an essential ingredient in obtaining a suitable medium in which the bleaching process takes place, as mentioned above, and constitutes the remainder of the composition apart from water-insoluble components and other optional additives. Among the optional additive ingredients are sequestering agents to complex metal ion impurities that tend to affect the stability of hydrogen peroxide. The sequestrants may be present in concentrations up to about 0.5%, and include nitrilotriacetic acid and the formula (HOOCCH 2 ) 2 N[CCH 2 ) x NCH 2 COOH] y
Includes non-neutralized and/or alkali metal salts of alkylene polyamine polycarboxylic acids having CH 2 COOH in which x and y may independently vary from 1 to 4. Representative of such acids are ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and ethylenediaminetriacetic acid. Up to about 1.5% viscosity modifier may also be present;
It can include water-soluble straight chain aliphatic alcohols (e.g. ethanol and butanol), aldehydes (e.g. acetaldehyde and butyraldehyde), ketones (e.g. acetone and 2-hexanone), and glycols (e.g. ethylene glycol and butylene glycol). . Additionally, the composition can optionally include up to about 20% of at least one additional water-insoluble ingredient, such as surfactants, fragrances,
Includes oils, opacifiers and dyes (including dyes and dispersible pigments). Said dye may be, for example, D and C Green 6
No. FD&C Yellow No. 3, as well as pigments such as Ultramine Blue and Disperse Blue No. 1. Typical opacifying agents include abietin/laurine ether polyesters as well as polystyrene. Oils include non-volatile oils such as mineral oil, isopropyl myristate, diisopropyl adipate, and volatile or essential oils such as peppermint, clove oil, and eucalyptus oil. Typical water-insoluble surfactants that can be used for thickening and emulsifying properties are U.S. Pat. No. 3,811,830 to Domarco, column 3, lines 64--
As disclosed in columns 5 and 6 (which is hereby incorporated by reference)
are well known in the art, such as Still other optional additives may include water-insoluble fats and waxes derived from natural or synthetic sources (eg, beeswax and spermaceti) and emmolients well known in the art. It is once again pointed out that in order to prepare the low ammonia bleaching composition according to the invention, the use of a water-soluble surfactant thickener, optionally in combination with a limited amount of the aforementioned water-insoluble ingredients, is essential. .
It has been pointed out that the use of natural gums (e.g. xantham or gwal gum) and cellulose-based thickening agents, with or without solvents such as low molecular weight alcohols and ketones, do not provide the necessary thickening properties for use here. be done. Gum and cellulose-based agents are extremely difficult to mix conveniently and require excessive time to hydrate to create the viscosity necessary to keep the bleaching composition on the hair. Solvents that generally couple oil-soluble materials and water-soluble surfactants result in compositions of low viscosity and are not suitable for bleaching keratin fibers. The methods used to evaluate bleaching (ie, hair lightening effect) and alkaline solubility (ie, hair damage) in the following examples are described as follows. Test Method for Evaluating Bleaching Efficacy Surfactants and their effect on brightening and damage were evaluated as part of a three-component system. The system contained a powdered activator, lotion and spreading agent. The chemical composition of the activator and developer was held constant and the lotion was the vehicle for the evaluation of the surfactant. The activator had the following composition:

を得た。Table: The lotion consisted of 0.5% monoethanolamine (ie, MEA) and 99.5% of the surfactant to be evaluated. A bleach test was conducted as follows: 23 grams of activator was added to 4 ounces of 6% aqueous hydrogen peroxide and shaken. Next, test lotion 60g
was added and shaken until well mixed. Next, the pH and viscosity of this mixture were measured. This mixture was spread onto a brown hair swatch. This swatch was longer than commercial pure hair approximately 9 inches long.
Bleaching was carried out in a glass dish placed over a constant temperature bath set at 38°C. The bleaching time is 1 hour and 15
The swatches were turned over every minute to allow the bleaching mixture to "rework." At the end of the hour, the bleaching mixture was rinsed from the hair and the swatches were shampooed with a mild shampoo. Next, the sample was visually compared with the standard product.
If the brightness of the sample is comparable to the standard product, measure the reflectance of each sample using a Beckman Du-2 spectrophotometer.
Accurate measurements were made at 560 mμ. When the surfactant was supplied as a powdered immobilized material, the required MEA and solid surfactant were dissolved in a 6% hydrogen peroxide solution. The activator was then added to the resulting lotion/peroxide mixture and shaken until homogeneous. The bleaching process is the same as described above. Test Procedure - Alkaline Solubility Test Hair swatches are bleached in a bleaching composition for 1 hour at 38°C. Next, a 1g sample of the whitened hair was heated to 110°C.
Dry for 3 hours. Weigh the dry hair sample. The hair is then soaked in 100 ml of 0.1N caustic soda for 1 hour at 66°C. Remove the hair from the caustic soda solution and rinse with distilled water. Dry the hair swatches at 110°C for 3 hours. Weigh the sample and calculate the weight loss. The greater the weight loss, the greater the damage to the hair that occurs during the bleaching process. The standard product used was a three-component system: Lotion 60.
