In addition to unidirectionally solidified ingots, processed materials obtained by cold-working the above-mentioned ingots can also be applied; rather, ingots that are cold-rolled in the solidification direction, the crystal grains are elongated. As a result, a clearer straight-grained pattern can be obtained than ingots.

When a surface parallel to the longitudinal direction of a lump or processed material is polished and etched, the degree of corrosion due to etching differs for each columnar crystal, and as a result, each columnar crystal has a difference in color or brightness, and the entire etched surface looks like wood. It looks like a straight grain pattern. In addition, the differences in color or brightness of each columnar crystal caused by etching are difficult to disappear,
The straight grain pattern remains clear for a long time.

The ingot 5 produced from 4 is heated to 5j2/si by a cooler 6.

Continuous casting was performed by drawing at a speed of w/win. In the above, since the melting point of steel is 1083'C, heat extraction during solidification is performed exclusively through the ingot 5, and as a result, the solid-liquid interface 8 is formed almost perpendicular to the drawing direction of the ingot 5, and the resulting cast Lump 5 had a unidirectionally solidified structure in which crystal grains extended in the longitudinal direction of the ingot.

The paint with the letters written on it was dipped in an organic solvent to dissolve it, then washed with water, dried, and then a transparent rear lacquer was applied to the entire surface of the base material to form a nameplate.

This mold 10 consists of a vertically arranged cylindrical mold 13 with a heat insulating material 12 pasted on its inner surface on a copper chill block 1 which is internally water-cooled. , heat extraction is performed only from the chill block 11, so that the cast structure becomes a unidirectionally solidified structure.

During casting, the heat insulating material 12 attached to the inner surface of the cylindrical mold 13 of the mold 10 was sufficiently heated, and the exothermic agent 14 was sprayed on the upper surface of the molten metal 1 in the mold 10, so that heat extraction was carried out from the chill block 11. The resulting ingot had a completely unidirectionally solidified structure.

After polishing the surface of this plate, it was immersed in an aqueous solution of nitric acid with a concentration of 15% to reveal the structure and used as a base material. Due to the cold rolling, the structure of this base material had a unidirectionally solidified structure that was elongated and had a straight grain pattern that was more regular than that of &Im as cast.
