本発明は獣乳を原料として皮膚用保湿剤を製造
する方法に関するものである。 人間の皮膚上には表皮細胞が産生する微量の代
謝産物が存在し、これが適度の保湿性を有するた
め、皮膚は乾きすぎが防止され、しなやかさを保
つている。ところが老化した皮膚あるいは洗剤で
洗浄した直後の皮膚には上記代謝産物が少なく、
したがつて十分な保湿作用が行われないため、皮
膚はひからび、荒れた感じとなる。 このように自然の保湿作用が十分でない場合、
保湿性を有する物質を人為的に皮膚に補給して皮
膚の乾きすぎを防ぐことは早くから行われてお
り、通常は化粧水、乳液、クリーム、シヤンプ
ー、リンス等に保湿剤を配合しておくことにより
これを行う。 保湿剤として従来使用されてきたものの代表的
な例は、ロイヤルゼリー、アクアライザー(商品
名;アミノ酸と還元糖とのエステルを主成分とす
るもの)および乳発酵物系のものである。このう
ち乳発酵物系のものは、牛乳等の獣乳に乳酸菌を
接種して乳酸発酵を行うことにより得られた培養
物の乳清からなるものであつて、保湿作用のほか
に緩衝作用や雑菌増殖抑制作用も示すなど、化粧
品成分として好ましい性質を持つ。しかしなが
ら、乳清は乳酸発酵により生じた微量の香気物質
を含んでおり、このため乳清を保湿剤として添加
した化粧品は、それほど強いものではないが特有
のにおいが感じられ、一部の消費者には好まれな
い製品になつてしまうという欠点がある。 本発明の目的は、上述のような欠点のない乳発
酵物系保湿剤の製造法を提供することにある。 乳清を添加した化粧品等のにおいと乳清中の香
気成分との関係を子細に研究した結果、上記好ま
しくないにおいの原因となるのは、乳清の香気成
分の中でもアセトアルデヒド、アセトン、アセト
イン、ダイアセチルなどであることが判明した。
本発明はこれら好ましくない香気成分を実質的に
含まない乳発酵物系保湿剤の製造法、すなわち乳
酸発酵培養物より分取した乳清を加熱殺菌処理ま
たは除菌処理し、次いで乳清の10〜20%が蒸発す
るまで減圧下50℃以下の温度に加熱することを特
徴とする保湿剤の製造法を提供するものである。 アセトアルデヒド等の好ましくない香気成分を
効率よく除去するのに好適な具体的条件は、真空
度40mmHg程度で約30〜50℃に加熱し、乳清の約
10〜20%を蒸発させることであつて、このような
処理により、上記香気成分はガスクロマトグラフ
イーによる分析でもほとんど検出されない程度に
除去される(後記実験例参照)。一方、常圧で100
℃付近に加熱した場合は、40%に達する減量を生
じるまで蒸発させても目的を達成することができ
ないばかりか、加熱臭や着色を生じてしまう。 本発明の方法により保湿剤を製造する場合、乳
酸発酵に用いる乳酸菌は、乳酸菌飲料等の乳酸菌
利用飲食品の製造に通常利用されている乳酸菌、
たとえばラクトバチルス・アシドフイルス、同ブ
ルガリクス、同カゼイ、ストレプトコツカス・サ
ーモフイルス等を使用することができる。培養基
として用いる獣乳は、人乳、牛乳、山羊乳など、
いずれでもよく、更にこれらの獣乳の脱脂乳また
は粉乳(脱脂粉乳を含む)からの還元乳であつて
もよい。これらの中では、脱脂乳または還元脱脂
乳が、乳酸発酵後の処理が容易であるため、特に
好ましい。培養基には、獣乳のほかに、乳酸菌の
増殖促進に有効なブドウ糖やシヨ糖などを加える
ことが望ましい。培養条件も特殊なものである必
要はないが、標準的な条件を示すと、上述のよう
な培地を115℃に15分程度(あるいは110℃に90分
間)加熱して殺菌したのち乳酸菌を接種し、37℃
にて2〜3日間培養する。 得られた培養物から、ろ過または遠心分離によ
り乳清を分取する。 減圧下の蒸発処理を施す前に、乳清はあらかじ
め加熱殺菌するか除菌処理して乳酸菌を含まない
ものにしておくこれにより、香気成分を除いたあ
とで再び香気物質が生成するのを防ぐことができ
る。 以上のような本発明の製法によれば、好ましく
ない香気成分をほとんど含まず、したがつて化粧
品に加えてもその化粧品本来の香りになんら悪影
響を与えない保湿剤を容易に製造することができ
る。しかも乳清の持つ化粧品添加用保湿剤として
の長所はいささかも損なわれることがなく、蒸発
処理による乳清の減量はあつても、有効成分の実
質的な損失は皆無である。 以下実験例および実施例を示して本発明を説明
する。 実施例 1 脱脂乳5にブドウ糖を150g添加して溶解し、
加熱殺菌後、ストレプトコツカス・サーモフイル
ス、ラクトバチルス・カゼイ、またはラクトバチ
ルス・ブルガリクスのスターターを接種し、37℃
で3日間培養する。培養終了後、培養物を遠心分
離機で処理して乳清を分取する。この乳清を2分
し、その一方を、10%の減量を生じるまで40mm
Hgの減圧下、45℃に加熱する。 上述のようにして得られた2種類の乳酸菌培養
