Abstract

PURPOSE:To re-send an electronic mail without applying a load to a user by storing the electronic mail once to which a sending failure is generated, and thereafter, re-sending it, when the fact that the sending of the electronic mail is impossible is discriminated. CONSTITUTION:A mail server network management service has a CPU 32 built in the device main body. The CPU 32 is connected through a bus 33 to a RAM 34, a display 35, a magnetic disk 18 and a keyboard 36. When the fact that the sending of the electronic mail is impossible is discriminated, the CPU 32 stores the electronic mail, to which the sending failure is generated, to the magnetic disk 18 once. The stored electronic mail is re-sent to an exclusive-use re-sending means.

By the way, when you send an e-mail from a terminal within a communication network, if the communication server of your own or the other party is out of order, or there is some kind of failure in the route to the destination terminal, the e-mail may not be sent. It will become. Conventionally, in such cases, the originating user would wait for the failure to recover before sending the e-mail again.

The user had to take the trouble of retransmitting the data. In addition, if it takes time to recover from a failure, the e-mail may not be successfully sent after several resends, and the user will have to resend the e-mail repeatedly, which wastes the user's time. There were also cases of restraint.

E-mails sent from workstation 15-1-1 are sent to mail server network management service 16-1.
The information is temporarily stored on the magnetic disk 18-1 inside. The e-mail read from here is sent to the destination Ethernet 11-2 via the communication server 14-1. However, the communication server 14-1 is out of order,
If any failure occurs in the devices after the modem 12-1, the e-mail will not be delivered to the destination mail server network management service 16-2. When the sender's mail server network management service 16-1 detects such a sending failure, it stores the e-mail in its built-in unprocessed queue. The unprocessed queue is a storage area in which unprocessed e-mails are sequentially stored and read out in order from the oldest to the oldest. The mail server network management service 16-1 on the sending side periodically reads the e-mail stored in the unprocessed queue at preset time intervals and attempts to send it to the destination.

FIG. 8 shows the contents displayed on the display of the workstation at this time. A list of e-mails stored in the magnetic disk 18-2 for the destination is displayed on the display, and two items, [Erase Tag] and [Retrieve], are displayed above the list. If you specify this item, after the specified e-mail is delivered, the tag for that e-mail in the corresponding mailbox will be deleted. As a result, the e-mail whose tag no longer exists in any mailbox is deleted from the magnetic disk 18-2.

The mail server network management service 16-2 monitors whether the destination workstation 15 has issued an instruction to retrieve the e-mail (step (2)). When there is a request for e-mail retrieval from one of the workstations 15 (Y), the CP[J32 determines whether deletion of the tag is specified (step 2).

If deletion of the tag is not specified (N), the corresponding e-mail in the e-mail body storage area 19-2 is copied and delivered to the destination (step (2)). Since the tag is still present in the recipient's mailbox, the same email can be resent upon request. Examples of this include: In other words, a person receives an e-mail delivery at a business office in Osaka, but because he has to go on a business trip right away, he retains the e-mail without erasing the tag and sends it to other sales representatives at the business location. This is a case where the e-mail is re-delivered from a workstation at another location and processed.

, copies the corresponding e-mail in the mail body storage area 19-2, delivers it to the destination, and then erases the tag in the corresponding mailbox (step 2). Thereafter, the CPU 32 searches the subordinate mailbox and determines whether a tag related to the e-mail still exists (step 2). In this example, the e-mail is being sent to two workstations 15-2-1 and 15-2-2, so even if a copy of the e-mail is delivered to one recipient, only one tag will be erased. Not yet. In this state where the tag for the e-mail exists, the process ends and the retrieval of the e-mail is monitored again (step ① and subsequent steps). On the other hand, if all the tags are erased by the delivery of the e-mail (Y), the corresponding e-mail will be erased from the mail body storage area 19-2 (
Step ■).

In the embodiments described above, the time for attempting to resend an e-mail is limited, but the number of times resending is attempted can also be limited. By limiting the time for resending e-mails in this way, e-mails that have failed to be sent can be sorted out, and the storage area for storing these unsent mails can be made relatively small in capacity. Furthermore, if an e-mail that has failed to be retransmitted is returned to the sender within a predetermined period of time, there is an advantage that the sender can use it again for retransmission.

"Effects of the Invention" As explained above, according to the present invention, even if the other party's server malfunctions or communication fails, it is possible to send an e-mail, so the user has no problems with these points. You can concentrate on composing and sending e-mails without paying attention. As described above, according to the present invention, once the e-mail is sent, the communication system manages the delivery of the e-mail, thereby reducing the burden on the user.
