In the figure, numeral 1 is a photoconductive type photoelectric conversion element such as CdS, and its resistance value changes by irradiation with light. This resistance value R is the amount of incident light L
It changes roughly in inverse proportion to. That is, R∝L -1 . Therefore, if the change in the amount of irradiation light is, for example, a five-digit change from 1 lux to 100,000 lux (equivalent to outdoor weather on a clear day), the resistance value also shows a change of about five orders of magnitude.
2 is a DC power supply, and 3 is an ammeter. Ammeter 3 needs to display a 5-digit change in light intensity from 1 lux to 100,000 lux.
It is impossible to display this in one range. Therefore, it becomes necessary to change the range.

(Purpose) This device was devised to eliminate these drawbacks, and makes it possible to read light intensity from 1 lux to more than 100,000 lux with only one range.

This operation will be explained below. The transistors Q2 and Q3 constitute a differential amplifier, and the voltage Vs at the contact point a between the photoelectric conversion element 1 and the collector of the transistor Q1 is fixed to the reference voltage Vref at the point b.
To explain in more detail, the voltage at the contact point C between the resistor R4 and the collector of the transistor Q3 is fed back to the base of the transistor Q1, resulting in the voltage at point a.
Vs is fixed to the reference voltage Vref. By the way, when the voltage V s at point a is fixed to the reference voltage Vref, the voltage applied to the photoelectric conversion element 1 becomes constant. On the other hand, since the resistance value of the photoelectric conversion element 1 is inversely proportional to the amount L of incident light, the current value I is proportional to the amount L of incident light. The above can be expressed as the following formula.

I=k・L(k:定数) ……(1) ところでトランジスタは一般に次式で表わせる性

I=k・L (k: constant) ...(1) By the way, transistors generally have properties that can be expressed by the following equation.

I=l・e m・V B ……(2) (l, m: constant, V B : base potential of the emitter of the transistor with respect to the transistor) To summarize equations (1) and (2), V B = AlogL ( A: constant) ...(3).

Therefore, it can be seen that the base potential V B of the transistor Q1 changes in proportion to the logarithmic value of the amount of incident light L. As is clear from the circuit, voltmeter 4 is
Since the base potential with respect to the emitter of the transistor Q1 is essentially detected, its value is proportional to the logarithm of the amount of incident light. Therefore, the amount of light can be known from the value of the voltmeter 4.

As described above, by fixing the voltage Vs at point a, the indicated value of the voltmeter 4 is automatically logarithmically compressed, so the dynamic range is wide. In actual measurements, the resistance changes from 500MΩ to 50Ω, that is, the light intensity changes from 0.1 Lux to 1 million Lux (7 digits).
It is known that the voltage can be read in one range of voltmeter 4.

(Effects) It can be seen that with this invention, measurements can be taken without changing the range even when the amount of light changes significantly. This has facilitated the production of various automatic adjustment devices for light.
