Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 技術分野 本発明は、集合的に一緒に超音波結合しやすい
ウエブ、特に薄いウエブを一緒に超音波結合して
積層品を形成することに関する。この種のウエブ
は、例えばポリエステルおよびポリプロピレンの
ような材料の繊維状不織物;ポリエチレンのよう
な熱可塑性フイルム;およびブタジエン/スチレ
ン共重合体のような材料からなる弾性フイルムで
ある。更に詳細には、本発明は、進行時(on−
the−fly)、即ちウエブを並置関係で比較的高速
で前進させながら実施される超音波積層に関す
る。
背景技術 従来の超音波結合装置は、ウエブまたはシート
材料を進行時に結合領域の所定パターンを有する
積層品にする装置を具備する。この種の装置は、
例えば米国特許第3562041号明細書および第
3733238号明細書に開示されている。
背景技術はウエブを超音波結合して積層品、特
にパターン結合した積層品にする際の問題のいく
つかを克服するために開発されている方法および
装置を開示しているが、発見された背景技術は本
発明程にはこの種のウエブ積層に伴うすべての問
題を解決してはいない。特に、本発明の範囲を限
定するつもりはないが、冷却されて十分に固定
(セツト)する前にそして積層ウエブがアンビル
シリンダーから分離する前に後結合圧縮を積層品
の超音波結合領域に施すことは従来技術は教示し
ていない。
発明の開示 本発明の一面によれば、超音波結合して結合領
域を有する積層品を形成しやすい複数のウエブを
並置関係で所定通路に沿つて所定速度で前進させ
ながら複数のウエブを一緒に動的に超音波結合す
る改良法が提供される。本法は、超音波結合が冷
却されて十分に固定(セツト)する前にそして積
層ウエブがアンビルシリンダーから分離する前
に、超音波結合されているウエブの部分を後結合
圧縮に付す工程からなる。この種の後結合圧縮を
好ましくは積層品の結合領域のみに適用する。好
ましい装置の具体例においては、装置の超音波結
合通路の下流末端に隣接して装置のアンビルに向
けて偏倚される比較的非変形性の回転自在に装着
された加圧ロールが設けられている。
発明の具体的説明 本発明の例示のウエブ積層装置20を第1図に
示す。ウエブ積層装置20は、フレーム21(一
部分のみ図示);超音波伝達装置23、増幅器2
4および超音波ホーン(horn)25からなる超
音波パワー装置22;軸受27上に枢着されかつ
超音波パワー装置22が装着されている枢着フレ
ーム組立体26;レリーフ型パターン領域34お
よび非結合惹起領域36を有する回転自在に装着
されたアンビルシリンダ29;アンビル駆動装置
30;超音波ホーン25をアンビルシリンダ29
に向けて偏倚させるアクチユエータ装置31;ア
ンビルシリンダ29の非結合パターン化領域36
が超音波ホーン25を通過する際に超音波ホーン
25をアンビルシリンダ29から外方に離間させ
るカム装置37;後結合圧縮装置38;張力離脱
装置40;3つのウエブ44,45および46を
アンビルシリンダ29上に案内する案内ロール4
1,42および43;および積層ウエブ50を下
流方向の補助装置、例えば巻き取り装置(図示せ
ず)に案内する案内ロール47を具備している。
本発明の装置はウエブを制御張力下において前進
させる装置を更に具備でき、この装置は当業者に
周知であり、第1図の明瞭さを高めるために図示
されていない。
概略的には、第1図の例示の装置20を作動さ
せると、一緒に超音波結合されるウエブ44,4
5および46はパワー回転アンビルシリンダ29
上に前進され;超音波ホーン25とアンビルシリ
ンダ29との間の加圧偏倚された超音波結合通路
を通過し、そこでウエブは超音波振動エネルギに
付されてウエブの所定のパターン化領域は積層品
50における結合領域となり;積層品50の結合
領域を装置38によつて後結合圧縮に付して結合
を高め;そしてアンビルシリンダ29上に配置さ
れた積層品50の部分を装置40によつて下流方
向の張力から離脱できる。
第2図は、第1図のアンビルシリンダ29のレ
リーフ型パターン化領域34の部分平面図であ
る。パターンエレメント53は機械方向に細長
く、そして機械方向に離間された広い領域54を
有する。パターンエレメント55は機械方向に離
間され、そしてデイスク状面を有する。パターン
エレメント53および55はアンビルシリンダ2
9のパターン化部分34の残りの表面56から径
方向外方にのびることによつてレリーフ型パター
ンを定め;そして好ましくはアンビルシリンダ2
9と一体にされるが、或いは別個にされ、次いで
表面56に固着され得る。
第3図は、細長いパターンエレメント53の広
い領域54の平滑に曲つた形状を示す拡大スケー
ルの部分図である。
第1図を再び参照すると、超音波ホーン25と
アンビルシリンダ29との間から現われる積層品
50を装置38によつて後結合圧縮に付す。
第1図の後結合圧縮装置38は、加圧ロール9
0、レバーアーム91、アクチユエータ92、お
よび調整ボルト94からなる調整自在の最内移動
停止装置93を具備している。レバーアーム91
はピボツトピン95上に回転自在に装着されてお
り、アクチユエータ92の棒96はピボツトピン
97によつてレバーアームにピン留めされてお
り;アクチユエータ92の基端はピボツトピン9
8によつて装置のフレームに枢着的に連結されて
おり、そして加圧ロール90は軸99によつてレ
バーアーム91に回転自在に取り付けられてい
る。操作時に、アクチユエータ92に動力を供給
して加圧ロール90をアンビルシリンダに向けて
所定の調整自在の力で偏倚させ;そして調整ボル
ト94を調整して触れるが非加圧負荷の接触を積
層品50の不存在下において加圧ロール90とア
ンビルシリンダのパターン支持部分との間に与え
る。このようにして、積層品の結合領域は十分な
所定の力に付されるが、アンビルシリンダのパタ
ーンエレメントは高圧の鋼対鋼の接触に対して保
護されるであろう。
第4図はアンビルシリンダ29のパターンエレ
メント53および55と加圧ロール90との間に
ウエブ44,45および46を配置した加圧ロー
ル90およびアンビルシリンダ29の一部分を拡
大スケールで示す。前記停止装置を調整させて例
示のトリラミネート50のウエブ44,45およ
び46(即ち、積層品50)の不存在下において
接触であるが非加圧負荷の関係を加圧ロール90
とエレメント53および55との間に与えるよう
に、走行すきまRCはウエブの厚さの和STよりも
大きい。例えば、それぞれ約18/100mm、4/100mm
および3/100mmの公称非圧縮厚さを有する不織ポ
リエステルウエブ44、弾性ウエブ45(例え
ば、ブタジエン/スチレン共重合体)、およびポ
リエチレンウエブ46からなり、弾性ウエブ45
を結合時に約100%伸長しているトリラミネート。
得られる弾性化トリラミネートは、例えば弾性化
衣服カフスとして有用である。
約30cmの直径を有する工具鋼製アンビルを有す
る装置20の例示の具体例においては、約71/2 cmの直径を有する鋼製加圧ロールを設け、そして
約40Kg/機械幅の線センチメートル(即ち、加圧
ロールの軸方向の長さ)までの力で偏倚させた。
鋼製であるため、この加圧ロールはそのように偏
倚された場合に実質上非変形性であつた。このよ
うにして、偏倚力(後結合圧縮力)をアンビルシ
リンダ上のパターンエレメントと加圧ロールとの
間に配置された積層品の結合領域に限定した。加
圧ロールの非変形性は、実質上変性自在の加圧ロ
ールによると切断を多分生じてしまうパターンエ
レメントの比較的鋭いエツジに沿つてのウエブの
切断を実質上回避するために設定される。
操作の理論によつて限定するつもりはないが、
不織ウエブの繊維を次の隣接ウエブ(即ち、前記
の例示のトリラミネートにおける弾性ウエブ)内
に事実上埋没させるので、この種の後結合圧縮は
不縮繊維状熱可塑性ウエブからなる積層品に特に
有効であると考えられる。
前記の後結合圧縮は、満足な剥離強さを有する
結合を与えるための超音波ホーン用の偏倚力(即
ち、アクチユエータ31)および加圧ロール用の
偏倚力(即ち、アクチユエータ92)を設定する
際に若干の自由(latitude)を装置のオペレータ
に与える。即ち、一般には、加圧ロール偏倚を増
大させるならばホーン偏倚を低下できる。高いホ
ーン偏倚は有孔化またはホーン面の高速の摩耗ま
たは他の望ましくない効果を生じさせるので、十
分な後結合圧縮を適用することによつて、加圧ロ
ール偏倚は装置のオペレータが有害でない低水準
のホーン偏倚に維持し、かつ依然として満足な結
合を達成させることを可能にさせる。
第5図を参照すると、加圧ロール190および
アンビルシリンダ129からなる別の具体例の加
圧ロール/アンビルシリンダ関係が示されてい
る。第1図の調整装置93は固定であるのに対
し、別の配置は積層品50の不存在下において加
圧ロール190の円柱状エツジ部分191とアン
ビルシリンダ129の円柱状エツジ部分192と
に沿つて連続的なころがり接触を与える。このよ
うに、別の具体例の後結合圧縮装置は調整自在の
内方ストツプを有していないが、積層品が存在す
る場合には加圧ロール用の回転エネルギは積層品
を経て伝達されるのであるけれども、それぞれ第
5図および第6図に示すように積層品50の不存
在下においてアンビルシリンダのパターンエレメ
ント支持部分および非パターン支持部分の両方を
通過する際に積層品をそれらの中に通過させたり
通過させずに、回転エネルギを駆動されたアンビ
ルシリンダから加圧ロールに連続的に与える。更
に、第6図に示すように、すきまが加圧ロール1
90の後結合圧縮表面193とアンビルシリンダ
129の非パターン化部分136との間に存在す
る(それは、図示のように第5図に示されたパタ
ーンエレメント53の径方向の高さに等しい)。
本発明の特定の具体例を説明しかつ記載してい
るが、本発明の精神および範囲から逸脱しない限
り、各種の他の変形および修正を施すことができ
ることは当業者には自明であろう。本発明の範囲
内にあるすべてのこの種の変形および修正を特許
請求の範囲内にカバーする。

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 1 超音波結合しやすい複数のウエブをそれらの
    間に前進させる際に結合し、それによつて積層ウ
    エブにする超音波ホーンおよび回転アンビルシリ
    ンダを具備する超音波ウエブ積層装置において、
    超音波ホーンの下流エツジに隣接して配置された
    加圧ロール、および超音波結合領域が冷却時に十
    分にセツトする前にそして前記積層ウエブがアン
    ビルシリンダーから分離する前に後結合圧縮を前
    記積層ウエブに適用するために加圧ロールをアン
    ビルシリンダに向けて偏倚させる装置を具備する
    ことを特徴とする超音波ウエブ積層装置。 2 アンビルシリンダが前記ウエブのパターン結
    合を実施するためにその外面上に配置されたレリ
    ーフ型パターンを有し、前記レリーフ型パターン
    が前記装置が後結合圧縮を積層ウエブの非結合領
    域に適用するのを阻止するのに十分な径方向の高
    さを有する径方向外方にのびるエレメントからな
    る特許請求の範囲第1項に記載の装置。 3 前記加圧ロールが実質上非変形性の加圧支持
    表面を具備する特許請求の範囲第2項に記載の装
    置。 4 前記ウエブの不存在下において前記加圧ロー
    ルと前記パターンエレメントとの間に非加圧負荷
    接触関係を与えるために内方に偏倚された加圧ロ
    ールの移動の自由を制限する停止装置を更に具備
    する特許請求の範囲第2項に記載の装置。 5 前記停止装置が調整自在であり、かつ固定で
    ある特許請求の範囲第4項に記載の装置。 6 前記停止装置が、前記積層ウエブが前記加圧
    ロールと前記パターンエレメントとの間に配置さ
    れている場合以外は連続的にころがり接触してい
    るように形づくられている、加圧ロールおよびア
    ンビルシリンダの両方の円柱状末端部分からなる
    特許請求の範囲第4項に記載の装置。 7 複数のウエブを超音波ホーンとアンビルとの
    間に前進させる際に一緒に超音波結合する工程を
    包含する複数のウエブを動的に超音波結合してそ
    れらの積層品を形成するにあたり、超音波で形成
    された結合が冷却時に十分にセツトする前にそし
    て前記積層ウエブがアンビルシリンダーから分離
    する前に後結合圧縮力を積層品の超音波結合領域
    に適用することを特徴とする複数のウエブを動的
    に超音波結合してそれらの積層品を形成する方
    法。 8 前記積層品を超音波的にパターン結合し、そ
    して前記後結合圧縮を前記積層品の超音波結合領
    域のみに適用する特許請求の範囲第7項に記載の
    方法。
