The inventor of this application has proposed a metal gasket in which a bead consisting of a convex strip is formed on an elastic metal plate, and the bead effectively seals the joint surface of, for example, a cylinder head and a cylinder block of an internal combustion engine. It has already been completed and an application has been filed. It has already been disclosed that this metal gasket forms a seal line on the joint surface, which is the deck surface, and adheres tightly to the cylinder head and cylinder block due to the bolt tightening force, resulting in an outstanding sealing effect. However, in such metal gaskets, the width of each bead is constant up to the joint where multiple beads intersect or gather together.
The elastic deformation of each bead overlaps at the joint, especially at the corner, resulting in complex deformations such as wrinkles across the seal line, and the seal line may break near the joint. This cutting of the seal line causes leakage at the joint, which inconveniently results in poor sealing.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a metal gasket in which a plurality of beads are formed on an elastic metal plate to achieve a seal and a joint is formed by joining the plurality of beads. By providing a constricted part in which the bead width is gradually narrowed as it approaches the joint point of the joint, it improves the followability and recovery performance during cold and hot conditions at the joint, improving sealing performance. The objective is to realize a metal gasket with a high quality.

An embodiment of the present invention will be described below based on the drawings. The metal gasket 2 is constructed by laminating three sheets in total into a substantially single sheet, consisting of a substrate 4 which is an elastic metal plate, and sub-plates (not shown) made of soft metal provided on the front and back surfaces of the substrate 4, It is installed at the joint surface between the cylinder block and cylinder head to achieve a seal.

The substrate 4 is made of spring steel or the like, and beads 6 are formed on the elastic plate of the spring steel to absorb any strain between the cylinder block and the cylinder head. The bead 6 includes a main bead 6a surrounding the cylinder hole 8, a first bead 6b surrounding the oil passage hole 10, and a first bead 6b surrounding the cylinder hole 8.
There is a second bead 6c provided along the outer shape of the side substrate 4. And these three beads 6
The first bead 6b and the second bead 6 are used to seal the joint surface area surrounded by a, 6b, and 6c.
c is joined to form a crossing part 12 which is a joining part.

The crossing portion 12 is formed so that the bead height H is uniform over the entire area, as shown in FIGS. 2 to 4, which are enlarged explanatory views. In the bead width L of the second bead 6c, the end of the parallel bead, that is, -
The bead widths L 1 and L 2 are set so that L 1 >L 2 is satisfied between the bead width L 1 in the cross section and the intersection point 14, that is, the bead width L 2 in the - cross section.

A bead width L is formed to taper toward the intersection point 14 between the - cross section and the - cross section.
In other words, it is formed so that it is gradually narrowed from both sides as it approaches the intersection point 14. On the other hand, the bead width L of the first bead 6b is formed to be gradually narrower from the side of the angular part 16. This allows the first
A constriction part 17 is provided at the angle part 16 between the bead 6b and the second bead 6c to secure the seal line 18 and obtain a complete seal. In FIG. 1, 20 is a bolt hole and 22 is a set hole.

In the metal gasket 2 interposed on the joint surface between the cylinder head and the cylinder block, the gap caused by strain on the joint surface is sealed by the bead 6 formed on the substrate 4, which is an elastic metal. A good seal line 18 is formed, and oil and gas leakage at the joint surfaces is prevented.

Therefore, in the crossing section 12, which is the joint section where the first bead 6b and the second bead 6c intersect, each bead 6
The elastic deformations of b and 6c are superimposed on the wedge portion 16. As a result, the wedge portion 16 does not undergo uniform elastic deformation, and complex deformations such as wrinkles radiate from the intersection point 14 occur, which tends to break the seal line 18 and result in poor sealing.

However, in the present invention, the constricted portion 17 is formed in the wedge portion 16 by gradually narrowing the bead width as it approaches the intersection point 14, which is the joining point.
Complicated deformation due to overlapping deformation does not occur in the wedge portion 16,
The seal line 18 will not be cut near the intersection point 14. This is clear from the fact that in FIG. 5, which shows the surface pressure distribution on the front surface of the substrate 4, and FIG. 6, which shows the surface pressure distribution on the back surface of the substrate 4, there is no place where the surface pressure distribution changes significantly. be.

As is clear from the above description, according to the present invention, in the metal gasket in which a plurality of beads are formed on an elastic metal plate to achieve sealing and a joint portion is formed by joining the plurality of beads, Since a constricted portion is provided in the joint where the beads are joined by gradually narrowing the bead width as one approaches the joint point of the joint, it is possible to prevent joints where there is a risk of seal failure. Demonstrates excellent restorability, absorbs distortion of the joint surface, ensures a continuous seal line, and combines with the bead between the joint and adjacent joints to improve sealing performance and prevent leaks such as blow-throughs. There are effects that can be improved.
