Core materials used in magnetic heads are also required to have high saturation magnetic flux density. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 2, for example, a thin film laminated head is known in which a thin film 30 made of a soft magnetic metal having a high saturation magnetic flux density is provided on a substrate 31 made of a nonmagnetic material.

It is necessary to have a smooth finish of 0 angstrom or less. Then, as mentioned above, the continuous groove 32.
Since it is difficult to finish the wall surface of . The grooves 32 are finished by dicing using a high-count blade to form groove wall surfaces having the smoothness described above. On the other hand, the substrate 3 made of a non-magnetic material
First, crystallized glass, which has excellent wear resistance, is usually used, but this crystallized glass has poor dicing processability, so it is difficult to make a cut when finishing with dicing using the above-mentioned high-count blade. If the amount is increased, the blade may become clogged and cracks may easily occur in the substrate 3I. In addition, since clogging is likely to occur, it is necessary to set the machining feed rate to, for example, 0.3 m 1 sec or less, and it is not easy to process a large number of pieces. As a result, productivity is reduced. The problem is that it is inferior to

In a method of manufacturing a magnetic head that requires a soft magnetic thin film to be provided along the substrate, a groove of a predetermined shape is formed in the substrate, and then a thin film of amorphous glass is formed along the wall of the groove. The method is characterized in that after a groove is formed on an amorphous glass thin film substantially following the groove shape, the soft magnetic thin film is formed on the processed surface.

Since the speed is higher than that of the conventional method and it is possible to process a large number of items, productivity can be improved.

The above-mentioned groove processing on the substrate 1, which has a high hardness and therefore has high hardness, is performed by dicing. The above processing is usually performed using a blade of approximately #3000. This finishing process, as mentioned above,

An amorphous glass thin film 4 of amorphous glass, which has better workability than glass, is formed, and the grooves 2 and 4 are formed by dicing the amorphous glass thin film 4 using a high-count blade.
Finishing is performed to obtain the required surface smoothness. For this reason, during the finishing process described above, the blade does not become clogged as in the conventional case, and therefore, the occurrence of cracks in the substrate 1 is suppressed, and the processing speed is further increased. Since processing can be performed, productivity can be improved.

A groove having a certain degree is formed. For this reason, clogging of the high-count blade during the above-mentioned finishing process is less likely to occur, making it possible to increase the processing speed and process a large number of pieces, thereby increasing productivity. This has the effect of making it possible to improve the performance.
