By passing a current through the coil 4, magnetization is induced in the head body 5, and the induced magnetization generates a leakage magnetic field in the gap portion B, and recording on the medium is performed by using this leakage magnetic field. . Further, reproduction is performed by taking in a magnetic signal recorded on the medium from the gap portion B, thereby inducing a reproduction voltage in the coil 4, and detecting this reproduction voltage. However, as the recording density of media has improved in recent years, there has been a demand for smaller magnetic heads, and the magnetic head shown in FIG. 2 requires a coil 4 to be wound around the head body 5. Therefore, it is difficult to process, which makes it difficult to respond to miniaturization of the magnetic head.

Recording on the medium is performed by applying an alternating voltage to the electrode 2 from the lead wire 3. By applying this voltage, the A of the main body 1 is
An alternating current electric field is generated in the part. Since the part A is made of a substance that exhibits the ME effect, AC magnetization is induced in the part A in a direction perpendicular to the AC electric field due to the ME effect, and this induction of magnetization in the part A causes the inside of the body 1 to Then, magnetization 6 is induced as shown in FIG.

Since the part is composed of a substance that exhibits the ME effect,
Electric polarization P is generated in the portion A due to the ME effect from the induced magnetization. Here, when the surface charge density at the electrode 2 is σ, the electric polarization P is expressed as P −σ. Furthermore, when the area of the electrode 2 is S, the total amount of charge induced in the electrode 2 is Q1, and the capacitance is C, the relationship between these and the potential difference V between the electrodes is Q-σ S P S CV , and this A potential difference of V-8P/C occurs between the electrodes. Therefore, the induced electric polarization P is detected as a potential difference V between the electrodes through the lead wire 3,
This detection makes it possible to read and reproduce the output signal from the medium.
