Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize both the recording and reproducing by forming the main magnetic pole composed of the high magnetic permeability film on one or both surfaces of the magnetic resistance element via the insulator film, winding the coil to the main magnetic pole and then securing a contact between the edge of the film and the tape magnetic layer.
CONSTITUTION: Main magnetic pole 23 composed of the high permeability film is formed on the single surface of magnetic resistance element 21 by holding insulator film 22, and furthermore coil 24 is wound to pole 23. Thus magnetic tape 2 is run so that magnetic layer 3 may touch or come close to the edge of the film. The magnetization recording is given to the signals in the vertical direction by flowing the signal current to coil 24 to magnetize the magnetic film of pole 23 and then utilizing the magnetic field. When reproducing, recorded tape 2 is run to vary the electric resistance of magnetic resistance element 21 via the magnetic field of tape 2. Accordingly, a fixed amount of DC current I is flowed to element 21, and variation V of the overlap voltage is detected. And then the reproduction output is obtained via amplifier 25, thus securing both the recording and reproducing.
