Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an adsorbent keeping an adsorptive function of an activated carbon by molding a mixture mainly composed of fibers and an activated carbon into a prescribed shape using a mixed binder of a water-insoluble synthetic resin and a carboxymethylcellulose volatile salt. CONSTITUTION:A mixture mainly containing natural fibers (wood pulp, etc.), organic synthetic fibers (polyesters, etc.), semi-synthetic fibers (rayons, etc.), or inorganic fiber (glass fibers, etc.) or their admiture and an activated carbon is molded into a prescribed shape using a mixed binder of water-soluble synthetic resin such as epoxy resin and urethane resin, and carboxymethylcellulose(CMC) volatile, salt. The mixing ratio of said binder is preferably 10-900 pts.wt. by weight of CMC-volatile salt to 100 pts. by weight of the water-insoluble synthetic resin. The containing method of the activated carbon in said fiber sheet is either impregnating the fiber sheet with an activated carbon dispersed slurry mixed with the binder or applying the slurry to the sheet surface. Such adsorbent has good water resistance.

Conventionally, deodorizing agents such as activated carbon, zeolite, titanium oxide, and metal powder have been used as adsorbents, while urethane resin, acrylic resin,
Molded products are provided that are molded into a predetermined shape using water-insoluble synthetic resins such as vinyl acetate resin, polyvinyl alcohol, gelatin, water-soluble polymers such as carboxymethyl cellulose sodium salt, and sodium alginate as binders. When these binders are used, the surface of the deodorizing agent is coated with these binders, which impedes the deodorizing performance which is the original purpose.

In order to solve this problem, when producing activated carbon molded products, volatile salts of carboxymethyl cellulose (hereinafter referred to as CMC)
- When a volatile salt (hereinafter abbreviated as "volatile salt") is used as a binder, the volatile substance evaporates during heating and pores are formed in the binder film covering the activated carbon surface, which does not impede the adsorption performance of activated carbon. It is also known as No. 61-52739. CMC-volatile salt becomes water-insoluble by volatilizing volatile substances, so water resistance is improved compared to when using general water-soluble polymers such as polyvinyl alcohol, sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose, and sodium alginate. .
