DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to wet film forming of a porous polysulfone membrane, and its purpose is to have pores with a pore size of 0.05 to 10μ, preferably 0.1 to 1.0μ,
The object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing a membrane that can pass through relatively large molecular weight substances such as proteins.

However, compared to cellulose acetate and the like, the intermolecular cohesive force is too strong, making it difficult to control the pore size. Especially on surfaces such as those targeted by the present invention.
Conventionally known manufacturing methods for porous membranes having pores of 0.05 μm or more and not covered with a so-called skin layer have several problems.

For example, extraction methods are known. In other words, extractable substances are mixed with a resin solution or resin and extracted after film formation. For example, polysulfone is extracted using polyethylene glycol as an extractant in JP-A-57-35906 and JP-A-55-106243. has been done. However, it takes a lot of effort and time to perform complete extraction, and depending on the conditions, the generated micropores may not penetrate, resulting in insufficient extraction, or closed cells may remain in the membrane, resulting in increased overresistance. There is a problem.

Furthermore, it is also known to add a good solvent to the coagulation liquid in wet film formation. For example, JP-A-56-152704 can be mentioned regarding polysulfone. However, with this method, in order to obtain a film with virtually no skin layer, it is necessary that the coagulation liquid contains at least 70% or more of a good solvent. In this case, coagulation becomes very slow and it is difficult to obtain hollow fibers which are not coated with skin layers on both the inner and outer surfaces, for example.

The present invention is based on research into the production of porous polysulfone membranes that are not coated with a skin layer, which has been difficult in the past, and has revealed that coating with the skin layer can be prevented even when a suitable poor solvent is used instead of a good solvent. As a result of further intensive studies based on this knowledge, we have completed the present invention.

The present invention is a method for producing a porous polysulfone membrane, which is characterized in that a mixed solution containing 20 to 90% by weight of propylene carbonate and/or sulfolane is used as a coagulating liquid when producing a porous membrane by wet membrane formation. be.

Although the composition of the polysulfone solution is not particularly limited, it is preferable to add not only a good solvent but also a swelling agent as in conventional wet film formation. Examples of swelling agents include alcohols. Methanol and ethanol also show good effects, but from the point of view of workability, substances with a high boiling point such as ethylene glycol may also be used.

The inventor has already found that ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, and sulfolane are good swelling agents for polysulfone, but each can also be used. In the present invention, since propylene carbonate (specific gravity approximately 1.21) or sulfolane (specific gravity approximately 1.26) is present in the coagulation solution, it may be necessary to increase the specific gravity of the polysulfone solution depending on the film forming conditions. , so it is suitable from this point of view as well.

The coagulating liquid composition contains 20 to 90% by weight of propylene carbonate or sulfolane, and has coagulability with polysulfone, does not decompose propylene carbonate or sulfolane, and becomes a solution at the temperature during film formation. Examples of substances to be mixed with propylene carbonate or sulfolane include swelling agents for polysulfone such as water and alcohol, good solvents for polysulfone such as N-methyl 2-pyrrolidone, and mixed solutions thereof.

The amount of propylene carbonate or sulfolane can vary from 20 to 90% by weight depending on the partner polysulfone solution composition, temperature and coagulation liquid temperature. If the amount used is less than 20% by weight, the effect of preventing skin layer formation will decrease, for example, the water permeability will be 1000%.

According to the present invention, it is possible to easily produce a polysulfone separation membrane that passes relatively high molecular weight compounds that are not covered with a skin layer, without requiring complicated processes or being subject to restrictions on membrane shape. The skin layer referred to here refers to a film that exists on the surface of a membrane, and is also called a dense layer. At present, it is practically difficult to measure the pore diameter of the pores on the skin layer even with an electron microscope. This is necessary for RO membranes or UF membranes for low molecular fractionation, but when the skin layer completely covers the membrane surface, high molecular weight compounds cannot pass through. Although not particularly limited, the fact that blue dextran (molecular weight approximately 2 million) passes can be used as an indicator of not being covered with a skin layer.

Propylene carbonate and sulfolane are non-solvents for polysulfone, but they have a better affinity than alcohol. This is considered to be the reason why the method achieved a better balance between prevention of skin layer coating and film forming workability than the conventionally proposed addition of a good solvent or alcohol to the coagulating solution.
