A technology has been developed in which a plant growing bed made of rock wool or the like is wrapped in a covering material, separated from the ground, a culture solution is supplied to the bed, and the bed is used as culture soil to grow plants, such as tomatoes and cucumbers. . The bed covering material used here is used to isolate the bed from the ground to prevent the plant from being contaminated by bacteria in the soil, and to prevent the culture solution applied to the bed from evaporating and causing the bed to dry out. A non-porous film that is not breathable or water-permeable is usually used. In addition, a highly reflective silver film is used to shade the roots of plants in the bed, and a black film is used to absorb solar heat and raise the bed temperature. It is also a non-porous film.

However, as mentioned above, conventional covering materials are non-porous with no air permeability or water permeability in order to prevent the bed from drying out.Conversely, if too much culture solution is applied to the bed, There was a problem in that too much water accumulated in the bed, resulting in insufficient air supply to the roots, which could lead to root rot.

The present invention is a covering material for covering a plant growing bed made of a rock wool molded body, in which the bottom part of the plant growing bed is non-porous, and at least part of the side part has a pore diameter of 0.3.
This is a covering material for a plant growing bed characterized by having a large number of small holes of ~5μ in size.

In the covering material having the above structure, since the non-porous portion covers the bottom surface of the plant growing bed, the ground and the bed are reliably isolated and the invasion of various germs in the soil is prevented. In addition, since at least a portion of the bed has small holes covering the sides of the bed, it normally prevents moisture from evaporating within the bed, but if excess moisture is supplied to the bed, the moisture may flow out. As a result, an appropriate amount of air is sent to the roots, preventing the occurrence of root rot. In order to prevent such excess water from accumulating in the bed and to prevent unnecessary evaporation of water, the diameter of the small pores is preferably small, and is usually selected to be about 0.3 to 5 μm.
Preferably it is selected to be 0.75 to 1.6μ. In addition, with small holes of such a diameter, plant roots will not extend outside through the small holes and will not be contaminated with external bacteria. The total area ratio of pores is about 0.1 to 15%, preferably 0.5 to 10% of the total area of the perforated part.
Good. Although the shape of the small hole is not particularly limited, a circular shape is usually selected for ease of processing. In addition, the position of the small holes was set so that there would be a small area at the bottom of the bed where water would collect, and to prevent the invasion of bacteria from the ground.
It is preferable to set the position at a distance of about 50 mm.

Additionally, this covering material may be transparent to allow sunlight to pass through, silver colored to block sunlight, or even black to better absorb solar heat. .

In the figure, 1 is a plant growing bed made of a rock wool molded body, 2 is a plant holding block placed on top of the bed, and 3 is a covering material placed around the bed 1. The covering material 3 of this embodiment is composed of a flexible film (for example, made of polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, etc.), and this film 3 is made of a long raw material as shown in FIG. When pulled out from the roll, it has a central non-porous portion 3A and perforated portions 3B having small holes 4 on both sides thereof. When covering bed 1 with this film 3,
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the film 3 is attached so that the non-porous portion 3A is located on the bottom surface of the bed 1 and the perforated portion 3B is located on the side surface. Here, the distance h between the lower end of the perforated portion 3A and the ground 5 is preferably 5 to 50 mm.

This liquid keeps the bed 1 moist and allows the plants to grow. Here, the film 3 surrounds the moist bed 1 to prevent water evaporation, keep the bed 1 constantly moist, and ensure that water, nutrients, etc. are well supplied to the roots of the plants. Further, the non-porous portion 3A on the bottom surface of the bed 1 isolates the bed 1 from the ground 5 and prevents germs in the soil from entering the bed 1. On the other hand, if excessive water is given to bed 1 when water is supplied, the water will be absorbed into the perforated part on the side of bed 1.
As a result, excess water is not retained in the bed 1, and an appropriate amount of air is supplied to the bed 1.
Conditions inside are maintained suitable for plant growth and root rot is prevented.

Further, in the above embodiment, the perforated portions 3B are arranged in a band shape on the side surface of the bed, but they do not necessarily have to be in a band shape, and may be arranged at intervals in the longitudinal direction of the bed. The perforated portion may be arranged over the entire upper surface.

As explained above, the covering material for plant growing beds of the present invention has a non-porous part facing the bottom of the bed, which prevents bacteria in the soil from entering the bed. At least a part of the bed has a perforated part with many small pores with a pore diameter of 0.3 to 5μ, so even if excessive water is supplied into the bed, the bed always maintains an appropriate amount of moisture and air. In addition, it is possible to prevent the roots of the plant from popping out from the small hole, and it has the effect that the plant can be grown well.
