Abstract

PURPOSE:To cut and remove a cable sheath safely and securely by a method wherein an electric circuit is composed of a cutting blade and the metal layer of the composite covering material layer of the cable in an instant when the tip of the cutting blade pushed into the composite covering material layer touches the metal layer to inform an operator of the position of the cutting blade. CONSTITUTION:A cutting blade 11 is gradually pushed into an outer plastic insulating layer 3b and, in an instant when the tip of the cutting blade 11 touches a metal layer 3a, an electric circuit is composed of the cutting blade 11, a infeed position detector 5 the metal layer 3a and the contact between the cutting blade 11 and the metal layer 3a is detected. An operator is informed of the detection by the alarm of a buzzer or the like. Then both the cords of the detector 5 is removed and a cutting blade infeed dial is further turned to push the cutting blade 11 into the metal layer 3a to the depth corresponding to the thickness of the metal layer 3a. After the tip of the cutting blade 3a reaches the inside surface of the metal layer 3a, the cutting blade 11 is turned along the circumferential direction. If the cutting blade 11 is moved along the axial direction after that, a composite covering material layer 3 is removed leaving a cable core 2.

The degree to which the cutting blade is fed to remove the cable sheath varies depending on the type of cable, and even within cables of the same type, there are variations in the thickness of the cable sheath depending on the manufacturer, and it is also affected by the state of wear on the blade. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 7(a), the cutting blade 11 cuts the metal layer 3 of the cable.
Assuming that the state in which the cutting blade 11' is fed to the lower part of a is appropriate, the state in (b) of the same figure means that the cutting blade 11' is not fed enough and the cutting operation is repeated.
), if the cutting blade 11' is fed too much, it can damage the insulation layer of the cable core, cause insulation failure, affect the communication line, and in the worst case, cut the cable core. Invite. In this case, conventionally, the extent of the cut made by the cutting blade was determined by the intuition or skill of the operator before removing the cable sheath, which made it difficult to make an accurate cut. For skilled workers, there is a problem in that poor cutting as shown in FIG. 7(b) or (c) frequently occurs.

When the cutting blade is fed into the composite coating layer of the cable and its tip comes into contact with the metal layer, the cutting blade and the metal layer form an electric circuit to inform the operator of the position of the cutting blade. Thereafter, when the cutting blade is fed by a distance equivalent to the thickness of the metal layer, the cutting position of the cutting blade will always be at the appropriate position below the metal layer.

Therefore, the cutting blade 11 in FIG. 1 is gradually cut into the composite coating layer 3, and at the moment when its tip comes into contact with the metal layer 3a, the cutting blade 11, the cutting blade feeding appropriate position detection device 5, and the metal of the cable sheath An electric circuit is constructed between the layers 3a to detect contact between the cutting blade 11 and the metal layer 3a. Then, the buzzer and lamp sound and light up,
The operator is informed that the tip of the cutting blade 11 has reached the metal layer 3a. The electric circuit of the cutting blade feeding proper position detection device 5 is constructed by the contact between the cutting blade 11 and the metal layer 2 of the cable sheath, so the circuit configuration is simple. Then,
Both codes 5a, 5 of the cutting blade feeding proper position detection device 5
b is removed, and the cutting blade feeding dial 14 shown in FIG. 3 is further rotated to feed the cutting blade 11 by an amount equivalent to the thickness of the metal layer 2.

FIG. 6 similarly shows a third embodiment, in which a cord 5a at one end of the cutting blade feeding proper position detection device 5 is connected to the cutting blade 11 via an induced voltage detection processing device 21. Also,
The other end of the cord 5b is connected to an induced voltage oscillation section 23 attached to the cable 1 via an induced voltage oscillation source 22, and the induced voltage from this induced voltage oscillation section 23 is applied to the metal layer 3a of the cable sheath. and forms an electric circuit between the cutting blade 11 and the cutting blade 11. In this way, this example is a method of detecting an induced signal generated in the metal layer 3a of the cable outer sheath, and the induced voltage oscillation unit 23 is detachably attached to the cable so that it can be adapted to different cable outer diameters. It is attached. here,
Needless to say, the induced voltage induced from the induced voltage oscillator 23 into the metal layer 3a of the cable sheath is at a low level that does not affect communication signals.

In addition, various configurations of the electric circuit can be assumed in addition to those shown in the examples, but the point is that it can generate a predetermined detection signal when the tip of the cutting blade reaches the metal layer of the cable sheath. As explained above, according to the cable sheath removal method and apparatus according to the present invention, when the tip of the cutting blade penetrates the outer plastic insulation layer of the cable sheath and contacts the metal layer, an electric circuit is formed and the buzzer is activated. The lamp beeps and
Lights up to inform the operator of the proper position to feed the cutting blade.
From then on, the operator only needs to feed the cutting blade by an amount equivalent to the thickness of the metal layer, so there is no need to rely on the operator's ``hunch'' or ``experience'' to determine the depth of the cut made by the cutting blade, which is required in the past, making it safer. The cable jacket can be reliably cut and removed.

In other words, even unskilled workers no longer have to repeat cutting operations due to insufficient feed of the cutting blade, improving work efficiency, and preventing damage or breakage of the cable core due to overfeeding of the cutting blade, dramatically increasing safety. improves.
