(Industrial Application Field) The present invention relates to a wire electrode for can manufacturing, and more specifically, when manufacturing a welded can body by pine seam welding the overlapping side portions of can body molded bodies, the overlapping portion and the electrode roll are connected. This invention relates to a can-making wire electrode inserted between the can-making wire electrodes. (Prior art) When manufacturing a welded can body by electric resistance mating seam welding of the overlapped side portions of can body formed bodies made of tin-plated steel plates, stain-free steel, ultra-thin nickel-plated steel plates, etc., the second welded can body is usually As shown in the figure,
Welding is performed by inserting wire electrodes 5' and 6', usually made of tough pitch copper, between a pair of opposing electrode rolls 1 and 2 and an overlapping part 3 (which becomes a welded part 4 by welding). It is done. Note that the wire electrodes 5' and 6' are usually continuous and consist of one body wire. This is because if welding is performed with the electrode roll and the overlapping part (welded part) in direct contact with each other, the electrode roll becomes contaminated and worn, requiring frequent replacement of the electrode roll, resulting in a decrease in productivity. Using a welding machine equipped with the electrode device described above, relatively small diameter beer cans (for example, about 50 to 65 mm in diameter) can be welded at a welding speed of 7 m/min or more, generally 30 to 60 m/min. When manufacturing a welded can body 7 of A large diameter one (e.g. 80-150 mm) is used. (Problems to be Solved by the Invention) When manufacturing a welded can body for storing food and beverages, etc., it is necessary to prevent the formation of cavities and plastics (protruding or splashing of molten metal) in the welded part 4. ,
Solid phase welding is usually used. In this case,
As disclosed in Japanese Patent Application No. 59-54477, it is presumed that this is due to local melting of steel extending in the circumferential direction on the inner surface 4a of the welded part in contact with the wire electrode 6' on the side of the relatively small-diameter internal electrode roll 2. A problem arises in that fissures 8 are likely to occur. This fissure 8 is a heat affected zone 10
It communicates with the pores 9 that are generated at the inner surface end portion (which is thought to correspond to the vicinity of the peak portion of the welding alternating current waveform, and where structural changes are observed microscopically). Normally, the inner surface 4a of the welded part 4 is coated with a protective coating, but this cracked part can be processed by flange processing, neck-in processing, bead processing, or overhang processing (when forming a barrel-shaped can, etc.). When processed, the cracks open and the protective coating cracks.
As a result, the corrosion resistance of the contents will be impaired.
The occurrence of fissures is undesirable. (Objective of the Invention) The object of the present invention is to reduce the occurrence of this fissure from the viewpoint of a wire electrode. (Structure of the Invention) In order to achieve the above object, the present invention provides a method for manufacturing a welded can body by mash-seam welding the overlapping portions of can body molded bodies, which is inserted between the overlapping portion and the electrode roll. A wire electrode for can making, the wire electrode having a purity of 99.99% by weight or more and an oxygen content of
The present invention provides a wire electrode for can making characterized by comprising less than 50 ppm of copper. The present invention will be explained below. Wire electrodes are usually supplied as round wires with a diameter of approximately 1.0 to 1.5 mm, and before entering the electrode roll device, they are flat-rolled by a pair of rolls to form a nearly square wire with a flat cross section (the short sides protrude in an arc shape). The wire electrodes 5 and 6 are formed on the wire electrodes 5 and 6. Generally, the wire electrode 6 is welded with its flat surface in contact with the inner electrode roll 2, and then it is wound around the outer electrode roll 1 to become the wire electrode 5. Thus, the wire electrodes 5 and 6 are made into a single piece. Made of continuous copper wire. In order to reduce the negative effects of elongation due to pressing force during welding,
A copper wire having a 0.2% yield strength of 14 to 27 Kg/mm 2 in a round wire state is preferably used. Without special arrangement of wire electrodes as disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-open No. 59-54477, under the normal arrangement of wire electrodes 5 and 6 as shown in FIG.
In order to reduce the occurrence of cracks 8 by performing pine seam welding, the copper forming the wire electrodes 5 and 6 must be
Oxygen content less than 50ppm, more preferably 30ppm
It is desirable that the copper purity is
It has been found that the content is preferably 99.99% by weight or more. (Function) Although the reason for this is not necessarily clear, wire electrodes made of this type of copper have high conductivity, usually 101% or more (IACS 100%) in a round wire state, and therefore the overlapping part 3 and wire electrode 5 , 6 is reduced compared to the conventional case of using wire electrodes 5' and 6', which have a relatively low conductivity and are made of relatively low-purity tough pitch copper with an oxygen content of 350 ppm, for example. It is assumed that this is due to the FIG. 1 shows an example of the state of the welded part 4 when pine seam welding is performed using the wire electrodes 5 and 6 of the present invention, in which the lower end of the heat affected zone 10 is does not extend to the inner surface of the surface, and therefore, no fissures 8 or pores 9 are observed. For example, when attempting to make a welded can body with a very thin oxide film on the surface of the welded part of 400 Å or less using the method disclosed in JP-A No. 55-103284, the wire electrodes 5 and 6 of the present invention can be used. This is presumed to be based on the above-mentioned reduction in calorific value, but it is possible to obtain advantages in working conditions such as increasing welding speed and reducing the amount of inert gas used compared to conventional cases. . (Example and Comparative Example) Plate thickness is 0.20 mm, tin plating amount on each side is 0.5 g/m 2
(Amount of free tin 0.1g/m 2 , amount of tin in the alloy layer 0.4g/m 2
m 2 ), a tinned steel sheet blank with a temper degree of T4CA was rolled to form a can body molded body with a width of 0.4 mm at the overlapped part, and using various wire electrodes shown in Table 1, a speed of 55
m/min, welding force of 45Kg, and welding current of 4000A, welded the overlapping part with a pine seam to form a 52mmφ
A welded can body was fabricated. Table 1 shows the results of observing the welded parts of the obtained welded can bodies.
