(Effect of the invention) According to the invention, the case body 11 that houses the ballast main body 7 is made of a metal-based copper clad plate, and the ballast main body 7 and the electrical components connected thereto are mounted on the case body 11. Since the ballast main body 7 and the discharge lamp 29 and other electrical parts are printed with printed wiring, the case body 11 can also be used as a printed circuit board for connecting the ballast main body 7 and the discharge lamp 29 and other electrical parts. This eliminates the need for a special insulating plate for connecting the electrical parts of the ballast, which simplifies the structure of the ballast as a whole, making it possible to downsize the ballast and to easily manufacture it at low cost. Furthermore, as mentioned above, the case body 11 can be used as a printed circuit board, eliminating the need for a special insulating board, which facilitates automation of ballast manufacturing and improves heat transfer from the ballast body 7 to the case body 11. From this point of view as well, the ballast can be further miniaturized, and its practical effects are significant.
