(Industrial Application Field) The present invention relates to a method for producing chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride gas with an oxygen-containing gas. More specifically,
The present invention relates to a method for producing chlorine, characterized in that a suitably prepared microspherical catalyst is used to produce chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride gas with an oxygen-containing gas using a fluidized bed reactor. (Technical background of the invention) Chlorine is produced on a large scale by salt electrolysis, and although the demand for chlorine increases year by year,
Since the demand for caustic soda produced during salt electrolysis is less than that for chlorine, a situation has arisen in which it is difficult to properly adjust each imbalance. On the other hand, large amounts of hydrogen chloride are produced as a by-product during chlorination reactions of organic compounds or reactions using phosgene. Hydrogen remains unused and is wasted. Additionally, the processing costs for disposal can be considerable. If chlorine can be efficiently recovered from large amounts of discarded hydrogen chloride as described above, the demand for chlorine can be met without creating an imbalance with the production of caustic soda. (Prior Art and Problems to be Solved by the Invention) The reaction of producing chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride has long been known as the Deacon reaction. 1868,
The copper-based catalyst invented by Deacon is considered to be the catalyst with the most excellent activity to date, and many catalysts have been proposed in which various compounds are added as third components to copper chloride and potassium chloride. However, in order to oxidize hydrogen chloride at an industrially sufficient reaction rate with these catalysts, it is necessary to raise the reaction temperature to 450°C or higher, which poses problems such as shortened catalyst life due to scattering of catalyst components. . From the above points of view, as a non-copper-based catalyst, chromium oxide has better stability at high temperatures than copper etc.
Because of its durability, it has also been proposed to use chromium oxide as a catalyst for the oxidation of hydrogen chloride. However, no results showing sufficient activity have been reported yet. For example, British Patent No. 584790 discloses that hydrogen chloride is applied onto a catalyst that has been thermally decomposed by impregnating an aqueous solution of chromic acid or chromium nitrate into a suitable carrier.
Hydrogen chloride is circulated at around 400℃ to generate chlorine, and when the catalyst is deactivated, the supply of hydrogen chloride is stopped, air is circulated to regenerate the catalyst, the air flow is cut off, and hydrogen chloride is circulated again. A continuous method is described. In addition, British Patent No. 676667 uses a catalyst in which dichromate or dark green chromium oxide is supported on a carrier, and hydrogen chloride and oxygen-containing gas are reacted at a reaction temperature of 420 to 430°C at a space velocity of 420 to 430°C.
The reaction was carried out at 380 Hr -1 , and a hydrogen chloride conversion rate of 67.4% of the equilibrium value was obtained, and at a space velocity of 680 Hr -1 , a hydrogen chloride conversion rate of 63% was obtained. At this time, the reaction is observed even at a reaction temperature of 340℃, but in this case, the space velocity is
The value was as low as 65Hr -1 , and the conversion rate was only 52%. In addition, as an improvement method for these, British Patent No. 846832
The reaction was carried out in the presence of a chromium oxide catalyst and in the presence of chromyl chloride in the gas phase of the reaction system. As a specific example, hexavalent ammonium dichromate is calcined to produce hexavalent chromium oxide, and trivalent chromium oxide obtained by reducing this with hydrogen is used as a catalyst to react with hydrogen chloride and oxygen. The molar mixture was reacted at a reaction temperature of 420 °C and a space velocity of 1200 Hr -1 , and the conversion of hydrogen chloride was 92% of the equilibrium value, but it decreased to 46% after 185 hours, so the activity was maintained. For this purpose, a method has been adopted in which chromyl chloride is mixed into the raw material hydrogen chloride. However, hexavalent chromium, such as ammonium dichromate and chromyl chloride, is harmful to the human body, and this method requires steps such as hydrogen reduction during catalyst preparation and separation and purification of chromyl chloride after the reaction is completed. It becomes complicated. As a result, even if chromium oxide is used as a catalyst, unless a new reaction reagent is added as described in British Patent No. 846832, conventional methods have high reaction temperatures and low space velocities. It is not in a condition to withstand industrial operation. That is, conventionally reported chromium oxide catalysts did not exhibit particularly superior performance compared to copper-based catalysts. The present inventors have previously discovered a method for efficiently producing chlorine using a catalyst that has high activity and can process a large amount of hydrogen chloride (Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 136902/1982). In order to recover chlorine with high efficiency by oxidizing hydrochloric acid with molecular oxygen, it is necessary to increase the chlorine gas concentration in the absorption process. In order to provide high-concentration chlorine gas, it is necessary to increase the concentrations of hydrogen chloride gas and oxygen gas in the reactor inlet gas, and as a result, the calorific value based on the heat of reaction per unit volume of the reactor increases. A fluidized bed reactor is more advantageous than a fixed bed reactor in order to efficiently remove the heat of reaction and enable the use of even a small reactor. In order to employ a fluidized bed reactor, a microspherical fluidized bed catalyst with a particle size suitable for the fluidized bed reactor is required. However, there is still no known method for producing chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride gas with an oxygen-containing gas in a fluidized bed reactor using a fluidized bed catalyst containing microspherical chromia as a main component. An object of the present invention is to provide a method for producing chlorine using a chromia-based fluidized bed catalyst that has high activity, high mechanical strength, and particularly excellent wear resistance. (Means for Solving the Problems) The present inventors oxidized hydrogen chloride gas with an oxygen-containing gas using a fluidized bed reactor to produce chlorine. Various studies were conducted on the production method of catalysts for use in this field. As a result, when using chromia hydrogel, which is a specific form of chromia obtained by adding an alkaline substance to an aqueous chromium salt solution, and spray-drying it to granulate it into microspheres, it was found that the concentration of the slurry containing chromia hydrogel was 2. The inventors have discovered that by spray drying a slurry in the range of ~20% by weight, a microsphere catalyst suitable for a fluidized bed catalyst can be obtained and that it has high abrasion resistance, leading to the completion of the present invention. That is, the present invention uses a fluidized bed reactor to oxidize hydrogen chloride gas with oxygen-containing gas to produce chlorine.
This method of producing chlorine is characterized by using a microspherical catalyst obtained by spray-drying a slurry containing chromia hydrogel at a concentration in the range of 2 to 20% by weight and then calcining the slurry. The greatest feature of the present invention is the use of chromia hydrogel as chromia (Cr 2 O 3 ), and the chromia hydrogel used is usually produced by the following method. That is, an alkaline substance (especially preferably ammonia water) is added to an aqueous solution containing a chromium salt to form a chromia hydrogel precipitate. The generated chromia hydrogel precipitate is washed with water in a conventional manner, and either as it is or by adding silica sol and other third or even fourth additives if necessary, the total slurry concentration is 2.
Adjust so that it is ~20% by weight. To adjust the slurry concentration, commonly used methods such as filtration concentration or centrifugation can be applied. The concentration of chromia is 30-100 in the catalyst after baking.
The concentration of silica is often in the range of 0 to 70% by weight. The slurry thus adjusted to a range of 2 to 20% by weight is spray-dried and granulated into microspheres. The type of spray dryer used can be one with a disk type or nozzle type atomizer. The disk type is usually used to obtain particles with a relatively narrow particle size distribution, and the nozzle type is often used to obtain particles with a relatively wide particle size distribution. Even in the case of a nozzle type, one using a single fluid nozzle is particularly preferred. The microspheres used as the fluidized bed catalyst preferably have particle diameters distributed over a wide range of 5 to 200 .mu.m, particularly 10 to 150 .mu.m, with an average particle diameter of 40 to 80 .mu.m. Normally, nozzle-type atomizers are often used to produce microspheres having the above particle size distribution, and the nozzle hole diameter is often in the range of 0.5 to 2.0 m/mφ. The pump pressure to pressurize the slurry into the nozzle is 5~
A range of 30Kg/ cm2 is suitable. Hot air is used to dry the sprayed particles. The hot air temperature is often in the range of 100 to 500°C. The slurry to be used is the one obtained by washing the precipitate of chromia hydrogel produced by reacting an aqueous solution of chromium salt with an alkaline substance such as aqueous ammonia or urea using a conventional method, and then concentrating the precipitate, or by adding silica sol to the precipitate of chromia hydrogel after washing. , and the third to fourth additives are used. It is necessary to maintain the concentration of the chromia hydrogel-containing slurry in the range of 2 to 20% by weight during spray drying. The viscosity of the slurry in this range varies depending on the composition of chromia hydrogel and silica sol, but is usually in the range of 10 to 2000 cp.
By keeping the slurry concentration within the above-mentioned range, it is possible to produce chromia gel microspheres having a particle size distribution within the optimal range for the fluidized bed catalyst described above. In addition, by adjusting the viscosity of the slurry to the above-mentioned range of 10 to 2000 cp, the catalyst body has wear resistance (described later).
0.4% Hr -1 or less) can be applied more effectively using the ACC method. What should be noted here is that the effects of the present invention can only be achieved when a slurry material containing chromia hydrogel is used. In particular, the above-mentioned high viscosity slurry can be obtained more easily. As before, slurry of fine powder of Cr 2 O 3 or
In a slurry in which fine powder of Cr 2 O 3 is suspended in an aqueous CrO 3 solution, the slurry viscosity is 1 to 2 cp or less, and the mechanical strength, especially wear resistance, of the resulting catalyst is low, making it difficult to use as a fluidized bed catalyst. It must be noted that it is completely unacceptable for industrial operation. Close the lid,
This is because the fluidized catalyst is required to have wear resistance measured by the ACC method of 1% Hr -1 or less, preferably 0.4% Hr -1 or less. If the slurry concentration is less than 2% by weight, the particle size distribution will be biased toward small particle sizes, and the abrasion resistance of the catalyst will also be poor.
If the slurry concentration exceeds the above concentration, not only the particle size distribution will be biased toward large particle sizes, but also the viscosity of the slurry will increase, making it difficult to spray from a nozzle. After spray drying, the microspheres are usually dried at 400 °C in an air atmosphere.
The catalyst is calcined at a temperature of ~800°C, preferably 450~800°C, and more preferably 500~800°C. A catalyst obtained by subsequently calcining microspheres produced using a slurry having a concentration within the above range has good wear resistance and is suitable as a catalyst for a fluidized bed. In particular, chromia silica catalysts containing 10 wt% or more of silica have extremely excellent wear resistance. The ACC method is commonly used to measure the wear resistance of fluidized catalysts. The ACC method is an accelerated test under much harsher conditions than normal fluidized bed drying conditions, and the wear loss by the ACC method is at least 1% Hr -1 or less, preferably 0.5% Hr -1 or less, and more preferably is said to be sufficiently usable as a fluidized bed catalyst if it is 0.4%Hr -1 or less. Surprisingly, the abrasion loss of the chromia silica catalyst containing 10 wt% or more of silica by the ACC method according to the method of the present invention is less than 0.2% Hr -1 , making it a catalyst with extremely excellent abrasion resistance as a fluidized bed catalyst. You can get it. In the method of the present invention, the catalyst produced as described above is used to produce chlorine by oxidizing hydrogen chloride gas with an oxygen-containing gas at a temperature range of usually 350 to 450°C. In the method of the present invention, the molar ratio of hydrogen chloride to oxygen is often in the range of HCl/O 2 =1/0.25 to 1/1. Moreover, the linear velocity of the reaction gas is suitably 10 to 50 cm/sec. (Functions and Effects) By the method of the present invention, highly concentrated hydrogen chloride gas can be oxidized with oxygen, and the concentration of produced chlorine in the reactor outlet gas can be maintained at a high level. Therefore, chlorine can be recovered and acquired from the generated gas extremely efficiently, and chlorine can be recovered industrially advantageously. (Example) The present invention will be explained below with reference to Examples. Example 1 126 kg of 40% by weight chromium nitrate aqueous solution and 905.5 kg of pure water
was added, and then 92.3 kg of 25% by weight ammonia water was injected dropwise over 4 hours to form a chromia hydrogel precipitate. During the dropwise addition, the mother liquor was sufficiently stirred, and the liquid temperature was adjusted to maintain the reaction temperature in the range of 45 to 50°C. The produced chromia hydrogel precipitate was aged at 50°C for 3 hours, and then the precipitate was washed, filtered and concentrated.
Next, 28 kg of 25% by weight silica sol was added and thoroughly stirred and mixed. The concentration of the obtained slurry was 6.5% by weight, and the viscosity of the slurry was 32 cp. This slurry was sprayed using a pressure nozzle type spray dryer with a nozzle diameter of 1.2 m/m at a slurry charging pressure of 10 kg, and granulated into microspheres at an inlet air temperature of 320°C.
The obtained microspheres were calcined at 550°C for 5 hours to produce a fluidized bed catalyst. The average particle size of this catalyst is 67 μm, and the particle size is distributed over a wide range from 10 μm to 150 μm, which is a desirable property as a fluidized bed catalyst. The wear loss measured by the ACC method (accelerated test) is
It is 0.16%Hr -1 and exhibits sufficient wear resistance as a catalyst. 2 kg of this catalyst was taken and packed into a fluidized bed reactor with an inner diameter of 4 inches, and reacted at a catalyst bed temperature of 380°C to 390°C, HCl/O 2 molar ratio = 1/0.5, and a gas linear velocity of 30 cm/sec to convert hydrogen chloride. Chlorine was recovered at a rate of 78%. Examples 2 to 6 Using the same method and apparatus as in Example 1, catalysts were prepared by varying the concentration of the slurry used.
The average particle size of the catalyst obtained is shown in the table below. The average particle size of the fluidized bed catalyst used in this reaction is 40~
80 μm is a suitable range.

It was too small for that. Comparative Example 2 Cr 2 O 3 fine powder (350 mesh
The following) were added to prepare a suspension with a slurry concentration of 15%. The suspension viscosity was 0.6 cp. This slurry was spray-dried in the same manner as in Example 1, and the resulting microspheres were calcined at 550°C to obtain catalyst bodies with an average particle size of 60 μm. The abrasion resistance of the obtained catalyst body was measured by the ACC method and was 12%Hr -1 , which means that it does not have the abrasion resistance that can be used in a fluidized bed. Wear resistance was measured using the ACC method.
(at least 1% Hr -1 or less). Comparative Example 3 Cr 2 O 3 fine powder was added to a 5 wt % aqueous chromia solution, and then silica sol was added to prepare an 18 wt % slurry. Slurry viscosity was 0.9 cp.
This slurry was spray-dried in the same manner as in Example 1, and the resulting microspheres were calcined at 550°C to obtain catalyst bodies with an average particle size of 64 μm. The composition of the obtained catalyst was Cr 2 O 3 68wt
% and SiO 2 32wt%. The abrasion resistance of this catalyst was measured using the ACC method and was 7% Hr -1 .
It did not have the strength necessary as a fluidized bed catalyst.
