可塑性合成樹脂製管と融着して気密に接続される電気融
着管継手に関する。
従来の技術 従来から、電気融着管継手を用いて熱可塑性合成樹脂製
管を接続するに当っては、その電気融着管継手の熱可塑
性合成樹脂製管継手本体の接続孔内に前記管を挿入した
状態とし、これらの管継手本体と管とを、クランプ治具
で相互に変位しないように固定し、この状態で管継手本
体に埋込まれている加熱線に電力を供給して管継手本体
と管とを熱融着して気密に接続している。
発明が解決しようとする課題 このような先行技術では、クランプ治具を必要とするの
で、作業性が悪いとともに、管が地中に埋設されている
状態では、管継手の接続のために大きな掘削孔を形成し
なければならず、この観点からもまた、作業性が悪い。
さらに丈な、管継手本体の接続孔の内面とその接続孔に
挿入される管の外周面との間の間隔が存在しており、こ
の間隔を周方向に均一となるようにクラン1治具によっ
て管継手本体と管とを相互に固定した状態とすることは
困難である。もしもこのような間隔が周方向に不均一の
ままで、加熱線によって熱融着を行うと、融着性能のば
らつきが生じ、信頼性が低下する− 本発明の目的は、作業性が良好であり、しかも熱融着接
合部分の信頼性を向上することができるようにした電気
融着管継手を提供することである。
課題を解決するための手段 本発明は、熱可塑性合成樹脂製管継手本体と、管継手本
体の内部または接続されるべき熱可塑性合成樹脂製管が
挿入される接続孔の内面付近に設けられる加熱線と、 管継手本体に設けられ、前記管を外囲し、加熱線の熱に
よって管の外表面を締付けて抜止めをする形状記憶合金
から成る大略的に環状の係止部材とを含むことを特徴と
する電気融着管継手である6作  用 本発明に従えば、熱可塑性合成樹脂製管継手本体には加
熱線が設けられているとともに、係止部材が設けられて
いる。この係止部材は、形状記憶合金から成り、接続さ
れるべき熱可塑性合成樹脂製管を大略的に環状に外囲し
、加熱線に電力が供給されて加熱されることによって、
管の外周面を締付ける。これによって管継手本体と管と
の相対的な位置が固定された状態で、管継手本体と管と
が相互に熱融着接合される。したがって作業性が極めて
容易であり、前述の先行技術におけるクランプ治具など
が不要であり、したがって管がたとえば地中に埋設され
ているとき、大きな掘削孔を形成する必要がない。
しかもまた係止部材は、大略的に環状であり、したがっ
て管継手本体の接続孔の内面と管の外周面との間の間隔
を周方向に均一にした状態で、上述のように熱融着接合
を行うことができる。これによって融着性能のばらつき
が生じることを防ぎ、熱融着接合の信頼性を向上するこ
とができる。
実施例 第1図は本発明の一実施例の熱融着接合された電気融着
管継手1と管2とを示す断面図であり、第2図はその電
気融着管継手1を用いて管2を接続する作業を説明する
ための図である。これらの図面を参照して、電気融着管
継手1は、たとえばポリエチレンなどのような熱可塑性
合成樹脂製管継手本体3と、その管継手本体3に設けら
れるコ、イル状のニクロム線などから成る加熱線4,5
と、管2,2aを外囲する大略的に環状の係止部材12
.13とを含む。管2は、たとえばポリエチレンなどの
熱可塑性合成樹脂製である。加熱線4゜5は、管継手本
体3の肉厚の内部に設けられていて6よく、また接続さ
れるべき管2,2aの端部が挿入される接続孔7,8の
内面付近に部分的に露出して、または露出しないで設け
られていてもよい。加熱線4.5は、単一本の素線から
成り、その両端部は、管継手本体3に固定されている端
子9.10に接続される。端子9,10に電源回路11
から電力が供給されることによって、加熱線4,5はジ
ュール熱を発生し、管継手本体3とそれに接続されるべ
き管2,2aを熱溶融する。
管継手本体3にはまた、加熱線4,5よりも軸線方向外
方寄りに大略的に環状の係止部材12゜13がそれぞれ
設けられる。
第3図はこの係止部材13の断面図であり、第4図はそ
の係止部材12の正面図である。この係止部材12は、
参照符14で示されるように周方向に部分的に分断され
ており、これによって径が変化可能とされる。この係止
部材12は、形状記憶合金から成り、管継手本体3と管
2との熱融着接合時の温度、たとえば200〜250℃
未満の低い温度、たとえば100℃で、その内径が縮小
して管2を締付けるように変形する。係止部材12は、
−旦、径が縮小した後、温度がたとえば常温に戻った後
には、その径が大きくなって復帰するように変形可能で
あってもよいけれども、常温の状態で径が縮小されたま
まに保たれてもよい。
係止部材12は、管継手本体3の接続孔7に臨んで形成
された環状の凹所15に嵌込まれている。
他の実施例として、この係止部材12は、管継手本体3
内に埋込まれており、加熱線4の発熱によって管継手本
体3が軟化し、しかもこの係止部材12が加熱されるこ
とによって、前述のように縮径されて管2を締付けるよ
うにしてもよい。係止部材12は、半径方向内方に突出
した抜止め用爪16を有し、この爪16は、半径方向内
方に突出した立上り部16aと傾斜した傾斜部16bと
を有し、係止部材12が縮径することによって爪16が
管2の外表面に当接し、また食込み、このことによって
、管2の矢符17方向の抜止めをする。
もう1つの係止部材13は、本件管継手1の対称面18
に関して第1図および第2図の左右対称に設けられる。
管継手本体3にはまた、係止部材12.13よりも軸線
方向外方側に環状凹所18,19が形成され、各凹所1
8,19には耐熱性ゴムなどから成る0リング20.2
1が嵌込まれる。このOリング20.21は、管2,2
aの外周面に弾発的に当接し、したがって管2,2a内
に輸送されるガスなどの流体の漏洩を防ぐとともに、外
部からごみなどが係止部材12.13寄りに、すなわち
管継手本体3の軸線方向内方に、入り込むことを防ぐ。
0リング20は、第5図に示されるように自然状態では
真円であり、その軸直角断面は円形であり、このことは
もう1つの0リング21に関しても同様である。
管継手1を用いて管2,2aを接続するに当っては、管
2.2aの端部を管継手本体3の接続孔7.8内に挿入
した状態とし、端子9.10に電源回路11を接続して
加熱線4.5に電力を供給する。これによって加熱線4
,5は、第2図(1)に示される常温の状態から、ジュ
ール熱によって昇温される。この加熱線4,5が昇温し
ている状態において、管継手本体3が僅かに軟化した状
態で、または軟化していない状態で、係止部材12゜1
3が約100℃にまで昇温されると、これらの係止部材
12.13は縮径し、管2,2aの外周面に当接し、こ
れによって係止部材12の爪16の働きによって管2の
抜止めを防止するとともに、管継手本体3の接続孔7の
内面と管2の外周面との間の間隔δ(第3図参照)を周
方向に均一とし、したがって接続孔7の軸線と、管2の
軸線とが一致した状態に保たれる。このことは、もう1
つの管2aに関しても同様である。
加熱線4,5がさらに昇温されて約250℃になること
によって、その加熱線4,5付近で管継手本体3と管2
,2aとが溶融して第1図に示される熱融着接合された
状態となる。この熱融着接合時における管継手本体3の
接続孔7.8の内面付近の軸線方向の温度分布は、第2
図(2)で示された状態となっている。係止部材12.
13は管2.2aを把持した状態を保ち、こうして管継
手3の接続孔7,8の共通な一直線上に管2,2aの軸
線が一致した状態が係止部材12.13によって保たれ
たままで、管継手本体3と管2.2aとの熱融着接合が
上述のように達成される。0リング20.21は、管2
.2aを接続のために管継手本体3の接続孔7,8内に
挿入するときに、管継手本体3の接続孔7.8内にごみ
などが侵入することを防ぐ。
熱融着接合が終了した後には、加熱線4.5に供給する
電力を遮断し、管継手本体3と管2,2aとを常温にま
で冷却して硬化させる。
本発明は、エルボおよびティー、さらにはその他の形状
を有する管継手に関して、広範囲に実施することができ
る。
発明の効果 以上のように本発明によれば、加熱線に電力を供給して
係止部材を加熱することによって、管継手本体に設けら
れている大略的に環状の係止部材は、管の外周面を締付
けて抜止めを行い、こうして管継手本体と管とを相互に
固定した状態で、加熱線による管継手本体と管との熱融
着接合が可能となる。したがって作業性が向上され、前
述の先行技術におけるクランプ治具が不要であり、しか
もまた管が地中に埋設されているとき、その掘削孔を大
きく形成する必要がなくなる。さらにまた係止部材は大
略的に環状であり、管継手本体の接続孔の内面と管の外
周面との間の間隙を周方向に均一として融着性能のばら
つきを防ぎ、熱融着接合の信頼性の向上を図ることがで
きる。

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 熱可塑性合成樹脂製管継手本体と、 管継手本体の内部または接続されるべき熱可塑性合成樹
    脂製管が挿入される接続孔の内面付近に設けられる加熱
    線と、 管継手本体に設けられ、前記管を外囲し、加熱線の熱に
    よつて管の外表面を締付けて抜止めをする形状記憶合金
    から成る大略的に環状の係止部材とを含むことを特徴と
    する電気融着管継手。
