[Prior Art] Conventionally, image forming methods using photoconductive toner use a photoreceptor and insulating or conductive toner.
Compared to electrophotographic methods that form images using electrostatic force,
Many proposals have been made to date, such as the Sugarman method (US Pat. No. 2,758,939), because it has advantages such as not using a photoreceptor, being able to perform exposure and development at the same time, and easily producing color. In addition, many proposals have been made regarding photoconductive toners as well as image forming methods. In general, photoconductive toners have a single structure in which a photoconductive agent is dispersed in a thermoplastic resin like normal toners, and others have a single structure in which a photoconductive agent is dispersed in a thermoplastic resin. There are two types of multilayer structures coated with photoconductive layers: Manufacturing methods include a kneading and pulverizing method, a spray drying method, and a microcapsule method. Recently, in JP-A-60-133459, a dispersion of a photoconductive agent dispersed in an aqueous solution and a dispersion of a thermoplastic resin dispersed in an aqueous solution are mixed and dried by a spray drying method to obtain a photoconductive toner. A method is disclosed in which a photoconductive toner is obtained by crushing and classifying the agglomerates by air drying. Furthermore, in JP-A-60-175056, a photoconductive agent and fine polymer particles are mixed with core particles made of a spherical transparent polymer, uniformly dispersed, and spray-dried at a temperature above the glass transition point of the fine polymer particles. A method is disclosed in which a coating layer made of a mixture of a polymer and a photoconductive agent is formed on the surface of a spherical and transparent core particle. Furthermore, in JP-A-61-6657, a thermoplastic resin is added as a main component to a mixed solution obtained by mixing a dispersion in which a photoconductive agent is dispersed and a dispersion in which thermoplastic resin particles serving as a binder material are dispersed. The mixed solution is applied to the core by mixing and dispersing the core. A method for producing a photoconductive toner having a two-layer structure in which a photoconductive agent is retained by thermoplastic resin particles by drying this core by a spray drying method or the like is disclosed.

However, in the manufacturing method disclosed in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 133459/1983, the preparation of the photoconductive agent and thermoplastic resin dispersion is complicated and stable manufacturing cannot be carried out. Furthermore, the need for uniform dispersion narrows the range of material selection and limits the ability to improve the properties of the photoconductive toner. Further, because of the single-layer structure, there is a problem that a photoconductive toner that satisfies both photoconductive properties and fixing properties cannot be obtained. Also, JP-A-60-175056 and 61-665
Similarly, in the production method No. 7, the production of the core particles, the production and dispersion of the coating resin fine particles, and the dispersion of the photoconductive agent are complicated, and stable production cannot be performed. Furthermore, since the dispersion liquid is dried by a spray drying method or the like, the particle size distribution is broad and a classification operation is required. Furthermore, the fine resin particles attached to the surface of the core have a weak adhesion force and are easily peeled off.

[Effect] By mixing large-sized mother particles and small-sized child particles and processing them through mechanochemical reactions, the child particles have electrostatic force, chemical adsorption force, etc. on the surface of the mother particle.
It adheres uniformly over the entire surface of the base particle due to physical adsorption force, etc. When fine resin particles are attached as child particles, the resin is dissolved by bringing a solvent that dissolves the resin particles into contact with the fine resin particles, and a film made of the resin component is formed on the surface of the mother particle. The coating state at this time can be controlled by controlling the type of solvent and the contact time. Further, the solvent that has been brought into contact with the particles can be quickly evaporated and removed from the particles by heat and air current, thereby preventing agglomeration of the particles.

[0008] If the production method is followed by mixing a photoconductive agent (hereinafter referred to as photoconductive particles) with the child particles during the mechanochemical reaction, the photoconductive particles will be firmly fixed to the surface of the mother particles by the resin. , and a coating layer in which photoconductive particles are dispersed in the resin is formed. In this way, since a photoconductive layer containing resin as the main component is formed on the surface of the inner core particles, the inner core particles are not affected by solvents, and even when the inner core particles are softer than fine particles with a lower softening point, the photoconductive layer can be reliably formed.

Inner core particles 1 are produced by a kneading and pulverizing method, a spray drying method, a polymerization method, etc. using raw materials consisting of a binder resin 2, a coloring agent 3, and the like. Next, an external addition process 8 is performed to attach resin fine particles, photoconductive particles 5, and a functional agent to the inner core particles 1, thereby producing inner core particles to which resin and photoconductive particles are externally added. Next, a coating treatment 9 is performed by bringing the resin and the core particles externally added to the photoconductive particles into contact with a solvent that dissolves the resin particles, thereby producing a photoconductive toner 10. The thickness of the photoconductive layer depends on the optical transparency,
In consideration of fixing properties, a range of 1 to 3 μm is preferable.

[0025] In the case of a dry method, a conventional mixer such as a ball mill or a V-type mixer can be used, but it is preferable to use a so-called high-speed fluidized stirrer. As the high-speed fluidized stirrer, a so-called Henschel mixer, Mechano Fusion System (Hosokawa Micron), Nara Hybridization System (Nara Kikai Seisakusho), Mechano Mill (Okada Seiko), etc. are used. However, the device for fixing fine particles to the surface of the inner core particles is by no means limited to these.

The solvent used to treat the inner core particles with fine resin particles attached to their surfaces is determined depending on the materials of the inner core particles and the fine particles. For this reason, water-based, organic solvent-based, etc. can be used. For example, organic solvents include halogenated hydrocarbons such as dichloromethane, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, dichloroethane, and chlorobenzene, alcohols such as methanol, methyl cellosolve, and benzyl alcohol, and ethers such as dioxane, tetrahydrofuran, and benzyl ether. Esters such as ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, ketones such as furfural, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, and cyclohexane, aromatics such as benzene, toluene, and xylene, and nitrogen compounds such as nitrobenzene, acetonitrile, diethylamine, aniline, dimethylformamide, and pyrrolidone. Can be used.

Inner core particles: 20 parts by weight Externally added fine particles: 80
Part by Weight These raw materials were mixed and externally added to the surface of the inner core particles using a Mechano Fusion System (manufactured by Hosokawa Micron) (hereinafter referred to as Mechano treatment). As a mechano condition,
The rotation speed was 1500 rpm and the processing time was 30 minutes. Excess fine particles that did not contribute to adhesion of the obtained powder particles were removed using a classifier. (Removal of excess particles using a classifier can be omitted by adjusting the amount of externally added fine particles.) However, even after removal, PBMA particles, dye-adsorbed ZnO particles, and functional agents remain on the surface of the inner core particles. Electron microscopic observation of the surface revealed that it was not peeled off and was still attached. In addition, cross-sectional observation using an electron microscope revealed that PBMA particles and dye-adsorbed ZnO were found on the surface of the inner core particles.
It was observed that the particles and the functional agent remained spherical and formed a coating layer.

<Image Formation> Next, an image was formed using the photoconductive toner prepared in this example. First, a photoconductive toner is mixed with a conductive magnetic carrier to form a magnetic brush. This magnetic brush is brought into contact with a transparent insulating substrate. Next, image exposure is performed from the opposite side of this contact area, and at the same time a bias voltage is applied to inject a charge of opposite polarity to the charge held in the irradiated photoconductive toner to form a photoconductive toner. selectively attach. A liquid crystal shutter was used as a writing light source. Next, the photoconductive toner on this insulating substrate was transferred to plain paper by electrostatic transfer, and fixed using a heat fixing roller. As a result, the obtained images showed good fixing properties without causing blocking or caking during development, and O. D. It was confirmed that the image was clear with no background fog with a value of 1.5. Furthermore, after conducting a durability test of 30,000 sheets, it was possible to obtain clear images similar to the initial image without causing blocking or caking. In addition, the photoconductive toner produced in this example was sealed in a container and stored in an environment of 30°C - 80% for 3 months and a similar test was conducted, but there was no deterioration in properties such as aggregation. I was able to obtain a clear image similar to the initial one. The same thing happened in the durability test. This result shows that the properties as a photoconductive toner were fully exhibited, and that various electrophotographic properties and fixability on plain paper were as originally designed.

Fine particles were laminated, then resin fine particles were attached, and then a functional agent was attached to form a multilayer structure consisting of uniform layers. The powder particles were subjected to solvent treatment using acetone to produce microcapsule toner. Since the dye-adsorbed ZnO particles are insoluble in acetone, cross-sectional observation revealed that the dye-adsorbed ZnO particles were covered with a resin layer to guard them. Furthermore, the presence of fine particles thought to be functional agents was also confirmed in the outer shell.

[Example 4] Using the same apparatus and inner core particles as in Example 1, the thickness of the coating layer was controlled by changing the particle size of the fine particles externally added to the inner core particles. The resin fine particles have a particle size of 0.4 μm (PBMA) and a particle size of 0.8 μm (PMMA).
, particle size of 1.0 μm (PMMA) was used. Table 1 shows the conditions for external addition of fine particles. All treatments were performed for 30 minutes. Next, these particles were treated with a solvent in the same manner as in Example 1. Acetone was used as the solvent. As in Example 1, the particle surface and cross section of the obtained particles were observed using an electron microscope, and the film thickness was measured. Table 2 shows the processing conditions and results. By changing the particle size of the particles attached to the surface of the inner core particles in this manner, a photoconductive layer having an arbitrary thickness can be formed.
