Claims

The inner peripheral surface of the seal ring has an axial gap between it and the seal runner, where fluid pressure acts, and there is a section located on the high pressure side that has a wide radial width in the cross section, and a section located on the low pressure side that has a wide cross section radius. A secondary seal groove having a step consisting of a portion with a narrow direction width is provided, and an elastic ring having an elastic modulus smaller than that of the seal ring or the seal holder material is provided between the seal groove and the opposing outer circumferential surface of the seal holder over the entire width of the seal groove. A secondary seal of a hydrostatic mechanical seal, characterized in that an O-ring made of a rubber material is provided only between the outer peripheral surface of the elastic ring and the inner peripheral surface of the wide seal groove portion.
