Conventionally, various devices have been proposed as devices for applying a coating liquid to a continuously running web. In general, the coating process includes a part that transfers the coating liquid onto the web (hereinafter referred to as the "application system") and a part that measures the coating liquid transferred to the web to a desired coating amount (hereinafter referred to as the "measuring system"). ), the coating methods were classified based on the differences in application type and metering type. Based on the differences in the application system,
There are known roller coating methods, dip coating methods, fountain coating methods, etc., as well as air knife coating methods, blade coating methods, rod coating methods, etc. based on differences in metering systems. Furthermore, extrusion coating methods, bead coating methods, and curtain coating methods are known as methods in which application and metering are performed in the same part.

Among these coating methods, the rod coating method transfers excess coating liquid onto the web and then scrapes off the excess coating liquid with a stationary or rotating rod to achieve the desired coating amount, and requires simple equipment. It is widely used because it has the characteristic of being able to apply a thin layer at high speed by operation. Although any method can be used as the application system in the rod coating method, the roller coating method, especially the kiss coating method, is most commonly used because of its simplicity.

However, in the conventional rod coating method, the application system and metering system were completely independent, so it was necessary to set conditions for each separately during coating, which was not only complicated but also required a large amount of space. However, it had the drawback of being uneconomical in terms of space usage.

In Japanese Patent Publication No. 52-36529, wire coating body, heat-resistant filler,
A coating method that mechanically creates a physical space using a thin guiding plate and forms a wedge-shaped liquid pool therein is exhibited. A coating method has been proposed in which the coating liquid is supplied so that a puddle is formed just before the application, and the coating liquid is applied by a rod.
It is used as an improved coating method that is easy to operate, does not require a large amount of space, and can form a coating film with excellent surface properties.

There are three types of rods for coating equipment used in the rod coating method: rod material with a smooth surface, rod material wrapped with wire, and rod material with grooves dug. However, in most cases, a rod for coating equipment is used, which is a rod material wrapped with wire.

Wire is usually manufactured by die drawing so that the wire diameter is constant. However, due to changes in the die over time, etc., the wire diameters are not exactly the same. Even if this wire is wrapped tightly around a rod material, small differences in wire diameter will change the pitch at which the wire is wound. Furthermore, for the same reason as above, the finished outer diameter of the coating device rod around which the wire is wound varies depending on the location.

To wrap the wire around the rod material,
The wire must have at least the flexibility to conform to the diameter of the rod material. If the wire is harder than this, the wire will break during winding, making it impossible to manufacture a rod for a coating device by winding the wire.

In this invention, the rod for coating equipment uses a rod material with a surface hardness that is hard enough to be rolled, so even if the rod for coating equipment is used continuously for a long time, it will not wear out or be damaged by foreign objects. This increases the wear resistance life and reduces the risk of failure of the coated surface.

In addition, by forming the surface of the rod material into the same shape as the outer surface shape of the rod for coating equipment wrapped with wire through the rolling process, the error between the pitches of the rolling matrix and the difference in outer diameter can be reduced on average. Therefore, the so-called wire diameter accuracy is good, and uneven coating thickness does not occur.

In the coating device rod of the present invention that contacts a continuously running web and applies a coating liquid to the web, the coating device rod is made of a rod material having a surface hardness that is hard enough to be rolled. The outer surface shape of a rod for coating equipment, which is made by winding wire with a wire diameter of 0.3 mm to 1.52 mm, is formed on the surface of the rod material by rolling processing without wrapping wire on the surface. The hard surface hardness of the rod for the machine equipment has a long wear-resistant life and reduces the risk of failure of the coated surface, and the rolling process averages out the pitch error and outer diameter difference of the matrix, improving the so-called wire diameter accuracy. Good coating quality was obtained with no unevenness in coating thickness.
