In addition, when applying tape to non-painted areas, the tape may peel off when the undercoat dries and this must be corrected before the topcoat is applied, increasing the number of man-hours. There is a problem with this. Furthermore, if the non-painted area is large, multiple layers of tape must be applied, which also increases the number of man-hours.

The masking jig includes a plate-shaped main body, attachment parts provided at both longitudinal ends of the main body and attached to predetermined locations of the non-painted part, and both longitudinal ends of the main body. a bellows portion formed between at least one end of the attachment portion and the attachment portion; and a substantially U-shaped cross section formed on the main body along a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the main body. It is characterized by being integrally formed with the bulge part.

Since the paint absorbs the paint, the parting line will not shift and the non-painted areas can be accurately covered. Furthermore, since the masking jig is formed from a single jig, there is no need to paste many tapes together as in conventional tape masking, so the number of work steps can be greatly reduced.

いる。 The masking jig 5 is made of a resin such as polypropylene or vinyl chloride, and includes a main body 6 formed into a rectangular shape by a plate with a thickness of about 0.3 mm to 0.5 mm. ,Respectively,
It is provided with mounting parts 7, 7, 15, 15. Also,
Bellows portions 8, 8 are formed between the main body 6 and the attachment portions 7, 7 in the longitudinal direction, respectively. Furthermore, the main body 6 is provided with a plurality of bulges 9 having a U-shaped cross section and extending in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the main body 6 at predetermined intervals. is provided with a plurality of fitting portions 10 extending in the longitudinal direction of the main body 6 and formed in a cross-sectional shape that matches the support member 3a of the lower grille 4 described above. As shown in FIG. 6, the mounting portion 7 is formed in advance to be inclined at a predetermined angle θ. Therefore, as the mounting portion 7 expands due to the temperature rise during drying, the angle of inclination becomes smaller, and the adhesion of the adhesive surface is reduced. improves. Also,
The number and spacing of the above-mentioned bulges 9 are the lower grille 4.
The inner diameter dimension l1 of the cross-sectional shape of the bulging portion 9 is formed to be slightly larger than the outer diameter dimension l2 of the support members 3b, and there is a space between them. A predetermined gap is formed. The reason why the bulging portion 9 and the bellows portion 8 are provided in the longitudinal direction of the main body is that thermal expansion in the longitudinal direction is large. Further, the number and spacing of the fitting portions 10 are formed to match the number and spacing of the horizontal supporting members 3a, and these are fitted into each other. Incidentally, in this embodiment, the bulging portion 9...,
Short bulges 12 are also provided between 9 and 9 to further absorb dimensional changes. In addition, in this embodiment, in order to increase the mounting rigidity of the upper and lower mounting parts 15, 15, the upper and lower mounting parts 15, 1
Reinforcing ribs 11 are provided at multiple locations (for example, 4 each on the top and bottom) of the fitting portions 10 and 10 adjacent to the reinforcing ribs 11.
is fixed. In this way, the masking jig 5 of this embodiment is integrally formed into a single plate.

An adhesive is applied to 15, and the attachment parts 7, 7 are adhered to the step parts 4a, 4a of the lower grille 4, and the attachment parts 15, 15 are adhered to the step parts 4b, 4b of the lower grille 4, respectively. At this time, the bulges 9 of the masking jig 5 fit loosely into the vertical support member 3a, so a predetermined gap l3 is formed between the support member 3a and the bulges 9.

できる。 To partially paint the bumper 1, first attach the masking jig 5 to the unpainted lower grille 4 as described above and apply an undercoat, and then dry it in a drying oven after completing the undercoat. conduct. At this time, due to the difference in thermal expansion coefficient between the masking jig 5 and the bumper 1, the masking jig 5 expands or contracts relative to the bumper 1, increasing the degree of expansion and contraction in the longitudinal direction. In the jig 5, the length of this expansion or contraction is absorbed by the bellows parts 8, 8 of the masking jig 5 and the gap l3 between the bulging part and the support member 3a, and as a result, the unpainted part Partial painting can be performed accurately without the masking jig shifting.
