By way of non-limiting example, the orientable antenna according to the invention can be used as a mass-produced antenna.
flat form that is easy to use and therefore economical and that is fixed or incorporated into a building.
has a condition. The beam orientation must be able to orient the antenna electrically rather than mechanically rotating it towards the TV satellite or transmitter, for example.
There is a point. In the case of video reception, the antenna must operate in a range close to 10 GHz.
It must have a low loss of 1.5 dB or less. The gain of the microwave frequency antenna must be large and the
It is known that a large portion of the chroma wave frequency is required. This is not possible with axial devices of the horn antenna type. Get large area equipment
Known solutions include a parabolic horn with a converging reflector.
This is relevant for devices with such low gain. However, the direction of the receiving and transmitting beams is
This requires orientation of the convergent reflector or displacement of the horn with respect to the axis of the reflector. It is also possible to associate low gain components in a flat array of equal phase, which may be constructed by an array of metal strips, for example made of copper, as shown in Figure 1, described in detail below. multiple dipoles. Methods of phase control of this type of array by actuating components such as magnetic circuits or switching diodes are known. This method is an effective but expensive solution.
This is the solution. The present invention provides a low cost solution that allows semi-fixed adjustment of beam orientation.
Ru. The term "semi-fixed" means that an antenna oriented in one direction must change direction.
This should be understood to mean that it will remain adjusted unless necessary, but that it can be changed. For example, if the antenna is adjusted to a first TV satellite and then to a second TV satellite.
Adjustable for stars. According to the invention, the signals transmitted and received by an antenna are in the form of a flat array of equal phase, which array consists of an array of dipoles arranged in a plane horizontal to the ground plane.
The beam can be directed by displacing at least one piece of electrical material in a plane between the plane of the dipole array and the ground plane. The electrical material produces a phase shift on the components of the circuit that connects the input of the antenna to the dipole.
at least one sheet of dielectric material having non-homogeneous regions that create voids; More particularly, the present invention provides an orientable flat amplifier operable at microwave frequencies.
The antenna consists of multiple radiating dipoles connected by conductors of equal length.
The antenna has a tree-like array formed by the antenna arranged on an insulating support, and the space between the array and its ground plane is perpendicular to the conductor. having at least a phase shifting component disposed in
also has a dielectric sheet, and the phase shifting component connects the input of the antenna to the dipole.
It is characterized by generating a phase shift in the part of the line that connects to the coil. The invention will be better understood by the following complete description of the embodiments, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
I'm sure you can figure it out. FIG. 1 is a plan view showing an equi-phase planar array of a known microwave frequency antenna.

The antenna is connected with respect to its input (or output) symbolized by transistor 1.
It is symbolic. A plurality of radiating dipoles 2 are grouped as an array and arranged in a main shape.
They are connected to each other by a circuit of conductors of equal length with a (Lee-shaped) structure. The length of conductor 3 is thereby divided into two conductors 4 each of length L/2, which themselves are divided into four conductors 5 of length L/4. Furthermore, each conductor beam is interrupted by an active component 6, the reactive component 6 having a length of half a wavelength λ/2 which makes it possible to match each node to the characteristic impedance of the conductor.
do. From a practical point of view, these conductors are orthogonal to each other and are divided into two series, namely conductors which may be conveniently termed longitudinal, such as numerals 3 and 5, and conductors which may be conveniently termed transverse, such as numeral 4. are grouped into. In one embodiment, this
The equiphase planar array is in the form of a metallized, eg copper, disposed on a thin sheet such as film polypropylene or other suitable polymer. In applications where price is a determining factor, dipole/dielectric/ground plane microwave
Hold a thin support at a distance from the metal ground plane to use air as a dielectric to form the trip line. The ratio between the thin support/ground plane spacing and the conductor width defines the characteristic impedance of the conductor. The ground plane has two functions:
- The ground plane ensures the transmission of signals along the circuit. - The ground plane reflects the waves transmitted by the dipole and improves the gain of the antenna by 6 dB. For this purpose, the ground electrode is made by punching out a metal plate.
or can be conveniently manufactured in relief by metallizing an uneven substrate.
I can do it. The relief of the ground electrode is in the shape of a groove or part of a cylinder as shown in Figure 2, and the important thing is that this relief reflects the transmitted wave in the direction of the dipole. It is to converge the waves. The present invention introduces a piece of dielectric material into the space existing between the support and the ground plane of the equiphase circuit, as shown in FIG. In this drawing, only the following are shown for simplicity:
- a part of the support film 7 (on which the dipole 2, the conductors 4 and 5 and the equal-phase circuit shown by the reactive component 6 are arranged) - a part of the ground plane 8, - these two a portion of at least one dielectric material 9 disposed between the two. This sheet 9 has calculated irregularities in its structure, thereby producing a phase shift on each part of the circuit connecting the input 1 of the antenna to the dipole 2. Irregularities in the sheet 9 due to longitudinal and transverse displacements result in a continuous phase shift of the excitation of the dipole 2 by changing the dielectric placed between the array and the connecting surfaces.
transverse or longitudinal to the axis of the main lobe of the antenna.
deflect in the respective directions. The irregular shape of the phase shift sheet and its position are shown in FIGS. 3 and 4. Figure 3 Smell
The planes, conductors and dipoles 1 to 6 of the actual antenna circuit are overlapped by solid lines in order to better locate the phase shifting components. As shown in FIG. 3, this sheet 9 has a longitudinal

Ru. However, furthermore, the phase shifting components 13 and 14 are arranged symmetrically with respect to an axis parallel to the conductors whose phase they change. Component 13 is a component
It is inverted with respect to element 14. In reality, as shown in Fig. 4, the phase shift component molded simultaneously as one sheet has a constant volume, the outer shape partitioned on sheet 9 is quadrilateral, and the cross section perpendicular to this sheet is quadrilateral. Wedge-shaped or triangular. A quadrilateral has a small side of length λ/2, a large side of length between λ/2+20% and λ, and a constant whole of the order of λ.
length (or height of a quadrilateral). The maximum thickness of components 13 and 14 is of the order of λ/10. The phase shifting components 13 and 14 are perpendicular with respect to the longitudinal branches 3 to 5 of the circuit.
Ru. The thickness of the dielectric provided by the phase shifting components varies, for example increasing in component 13 and decreasing in component 14, or vice versa. The variation of wave velocity as a factor of component thickness requires this quadrilateral shape. Therefore the width of the component is always equal to 1/2 wavelength and is guided by the component.
Reduce parasitic reflections. Inversion of phase shift components 13 and 14 with respect to node 10 on branches 3 and 3'
The arrangement is such that a transverse displacement of the sheet 9 causes a phase shift of the branch 3, and the opposite side of the branch 3'
This means that a phase shift occurs in the direction. FIG. 3 shows only the phase shifting components 13 and 14 whose action is applied to the longitudinal limbs of the circuit. two for acting on transverse branches such as 4 and 4';
There is a possibility that - on the same sheet 9, in a perpendicular direction perpendicular to the transverse conductors 4 and 4';
Add several phase shift components. In this case, the main lobe of the antenna
Orientation is obtained by transverse and longitudinal displacement of one sheet 9. A second dielectric sheet 15 consisting of phase shifting elements arranged perpendicularly to one transverse conductor 4 and 4' is inserted. In this case the direction of the main lobe of the antenna is obtained by the transverse displacement of the sheet 9 and by the longitudinal displacement of the sheet 15, respectively. The dielectric sheets or sheets 9 and 15 are made of ceramic or polypropylene or
is a polyester with a high dielectric constant and low absorption, such as polytetrafluoroethylene.
Made from ma materials. The phase shifting means described up to this point produce a linear phase shift by acting on the branch of the circuit included between the input 1 and the dipole 2 of the antenna. Die again
By acting on the pole, it is possible to generate a phase shift due to the circular polarization of the wave. It is known that dipoles can be formed in the form shown in FIG. Like
Alternatively, the rectangular metal treatment 16 is excited at two points 17, 18 arranged on adjacent rectangular sides, ie arranged at 90°. If these two excitation points are phase shifted by 90°, the generated wave is circular. According to the invention, between the circuit of the sheet 7 and the ground plane 8 there is at least one quarter-wave phase shifter 19 and one 172-wavelength phase shifter as shown in FIG. 6 for each radiating component.
By inserting the third phase shift sheet 21 that supports the long phase shift lid 20,
This results in an additional phase shift. These phase shifters are similar to phase shift components 13 and 14 and are constructed by irregularities in the thickness of the third phase shift sheet 21, which is also made of ceramic.
made of polypropylene or other dielectric material. The radiation arrangement is such that the phase shifters 19 and 20 act on the conductor exciting the dipole 16 at 17.18.
Circular polarization is adjusted by displacing the third sheet relative to the circuit of component 16. In case of replacing the linear dipole 2 by a radiating component 16 it becomes possible to add circular polarization to the linear polarization. FIG. 7 is an exploded view of a portion of an orientable antenna that incorporates the various improvements described as part of the present invention. The support sheets are separated so that each component of these sheets can be viewed. This orientable antenna consists of at least a knee dipole 2 or a sheet 7 - supporting the circuitry of the radiating component 16 and a ground plane 8 . At least one of the following three sheets is inserted between these two planes: one sheet 9, (sheet 9 supports phase shifting components 13 and 14 and moves transversely but produces longitudinally linear polarization); one sheet 15, (sheet 15 supports phase shifting components 13' and 14); 14', moving longitudinally but producing transverse linear polarization) one sheet 21° (sheet 21 supporting moving shift components 1-9 and 20 producing circular polarization) ) Sheets 9 and 15 can be combined into one sheet.
Ru. Of course, all of these sheets are mounted on a rigid frame (not shown), which positions them between the sheets to orient the antenna.
The position can be adjusted. Adjustment devices are within the purview of those skilled in the art and can be done manually.
mechanical means for adjustment of antenna gain or electrical means for adjustment of antenna gain.
It has one of the steps. The orientable antenna of the present invention is suitable for transmitting and receiving microwave frequencies, especially for telecommunications.
It can be applied to the field of application. Orientable Planar Antenna Operation Operated at Microwave Frequencies The present invention provides an orientable planar antenna operation operating at microwave frequencies.
Regarding the antenna. The microwave frequency antenna consists of an array of radiating dipoles (2, 16) formed as a circuit (3, 4, 17, 18) arranged on a substrate (7) and a ground plane.
It is formed by To orient this antenna, there should be at least a minimum distance between the array and the ground plane.
A dielectric sheet is also introduced. The sheet has phase shifting components (13, 14, 19, 20) molded into the sheet. The movement of the sheet (9) with respect to the array (2,16)
This results in a phase shift of the pole and orientation of the lobe of the antenna. Applies to microwave frequency telecommunications.
