Abstract

PURPOSE:To make air in a case circulate by movement of a carriage and to cool a printing head therewith by a method wherein a plate member is installed to the carriage that moves the printing head mounted thereon so that the direction in which the carriage travels is intersected by the plate member. CONSTITUTION:Printing is made with a printing head 1 that is driven with a carriage 5 that travels in reciprocation in an air channel. A piston member 31 is made of a flat plate in a shape approximately the same as the sectional shape of the air channel, and travels in reciprocation together with the carriage 5 as it is fixed to the carriage 5 with screws that are inserted through fixing holes 31c. When the carriage 5 travels in one direction, hot air in the air channel is exhausted by effect of the piston member 31 toward the direction of the travel and, at the same time, air on the outside of a case of a printing device is sucked into the air channel from the side opposite to the direction of the travel.. When the carriage 5 travels in the opposite direction, the exhaust and the suction are made likewise. Ventilation in the air channel is made as mentioned above by reciprocating travels of the carriage 5, and thereby the printing head 1 can be cooled down.

Conventional technology Conventionally, the print heads of printing devices such as typewriters and wire dot printers use solenoids to drive hammers, wires, etc., but when printing with a high printing rate, the temperature of the print head rises due to the heat generated by the solenoid. Therefore, the printing operation had to be stopped to protect the print head.

The operation of the printing apparatus configured as described above will be explained below. Here, since everything other than the operation of the piston member 3I is the same as the conventional one, detailed explanation will be omitted. Printing is performed by driving the print head l while the carriage 5 reciprocates within the wind cylinder 30, or by driving the print head l by the piston member 3.
1 is also fixed to this carriage 5, so it moves back and forth with the carriage 5, and when the air inside the wind cylinder travels in one direction with the carriage 5 as shown in Figure 4, it travels through the high temperature air inside the wind cylinder. While exhausting in the direction, the piston member 31
On the opposite side of the travel direction, air outside the case is sucked into the wind barrel. When the carriage 5 travels in the opposite direction, air intake and exhaust air are similarly carried out. As the carriage 5 travels in this manner, air is exchanged within the wind cylinder and the print head 1 is cooled.

In addition, in one embodiment of the present invention, the piston member 31 is connected to the wind barrel 3.
As shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, a ventilation hole 32a is formed in the piston member 32, and the valve member 33 is inserted into the ventilation hole 32a through the hinge 3.
4 and the pin 35 so that it can be opened and closed,
As shown in FIG. 7, when the carriage 5 travels in a direction that closes the valve member 33 or the ventilation hole 32a due to wind pressure, the high-temperature air inside the wind cylinder 30 is exhausted in the traveling direction, and the piston member 3
On the opposite side of 2, air outside the case is sucked into the wind barrel 30. When the carriage 5 moves in the direction in which the valve member 33 opens due to wind pressure, the ventilation hole 32a is not blocked, so that almost no air is taken in or exhausted from the wind cylinder 3o. Due to the action of the valve member 33, the air inside the wind cylinder 30 is caused to flow in one direction, the air is replaced, and the print head 1 is cooled.
