By the way, as for the shock absorption performance of the above-mentioned shock absorber, it is desirable that the load/deformation amount curve depicts a cubic curve, with the vertical axis representing the load and the horizontal axis representing the amount of deformation. For example, as shown in Fig. 3, shock absorbers 1 made of urethane foam and covered with a polyurethane cover 2, as shown in Fig. 4, or as shown in Fig. 4, Absorber 1
A structure in which a polyethylene honeycomb structure is used and the surface thereof is covered with a polyurethane cover 2 is known.

[Problems to be solved by the invention] However, since the former method uses foam molding, production efficiency is low and there are problems in productivity such as a high molding defect rate. Furthermore, the latter has the disadvantage that it lacks a degree of freedom in shape and is subject to restrictions on the bumper shape.

[Means for Solving the Problems] As shown in FIG. 1, the shock absorbing bumper of the present invention includes a shock absorber 1 in a cover body 2 that extends in the vehicle width direction along the vehicle edge and projects forward. It will be arranged. The shock absorber 1 is made of an elastic plate material, and is formed into a stepped cross section along the protruding inner peripheral surface of the cover body 2. Further, the shock absorber 1 is provided with reinforcing ribs 11 extending forward at the upper and lower ends and at the central projecting end, respectively.

[Operation] When an impact is applied to the impact absorbing bumper of the present invention from the front, the impact absorber 1 absorbs the generated impact energy while being elastically deformed. At this time, by forming the shock absorber 1 into a stepped structure, the shock is relieved in stages and an ideal cubic curve is obtained. Furthermore, since the stiffness of the impact absorber 1 in the longitudinal direction is strengthened by the reinforcing ribs 11, the bumper is prevented from being bent and deformed in the longitudinal direction upon impact.

[Example] FIG. 1 shows a cross-sectional perspective view of a shock absorbing bumper according to the present invention. In the figure, a cover body 2 of a shock absorbing bumper extending in the vehicle width direction has a substantially U-shaped cross section projecting forward, and is made by injection molding of rubber-modified polypropylene.

A plate-shaped shock absorber 1 is disposed inside the cover body 2 along the inner circumferential surface of the cover body 2, and the shock absorber 1 is formed into a multi-step stepped cross section with a central portion protruding forward. It has been done. The shock absorber 1 is obtained by injection molding of inorganic and rubber-modified reinforced polypropylene.

When an impact is applied to the impact absorbing bumper having the above structure from the front, the impact force is transmitted to the impact absorbing body 1 via the cover body 2. At this time, each surface of the shock absorber 1 formed in a step shape is elastically deformed with a time lag, and the load-deformation curve described above draws a cubic curve, and the impact energy is transferred to the cover body 2 and the impact. The absorber 1 is thin and easily curves and deforms particularly in the longitudinal direction when subjected to an impact, and when the absorber 1 curves and deforms, the shock absorption performance of the stepped shock absorber 1 is not fully exhibited. Therefore, by forming the reinforcing ribs 11 on the shock absorber 1, rigidity in the longitudinal direction of the entire bumper is imparted.

According to the above structure, since the shock absorber 1 can be manufactured by injection molding, productivity is improved, and the mounting portion and the like can be molded easily and with high precision integrally with the main body portion.

Conventionally, in bumpers, ribs are formed on the inner surface of a cover body. However, injection molding causes sink marks on the surface of the rib-forming portion of the cover body, impairing its appearance. In contrast, in the bumper of the present invention, since the reinforcing ribs 11 are formed on the shock absorber 1 within the cover body, the appearance of the bumper's outer surface is not impaired.
