DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Industrial Application Field) The present invention relates to photographic developers, particularly silver halide photographs containing a novel developer which oxidatively releases photographically effective groups during the development process. It relates to photosensitive materials. (Prior art) Hydroquinone derivatives (so-called DIR-hydroquinone) have been used as compounds that release photographically effective groups in accordance with the density of the image during development. )It has been known. Examples of DIR-hydroquinone include U.S. Patent Nos. 3379529 and 3620746;
Compounds described in, for example, No. 129536 are known. DIR-hydroquinone, as known from the above-mentioned patents, is used for the purpose of obtaining so-called DIR effects such as controlling image tone, making images finer, improving image sharpness, and improving color reproduction. However, the above known
DIR-hydroquinone compounds have a low release rate and release efficiency of development-inhibiting groups from oxidants.
DIR-hydroquinone activity is insufficient. Other known examples include JP-A-56
-153342 and JP-A-56-153336, but in these cases, the compound released imagewise is an indazole derivative, and the release rate from the oxidized product is still not sufficient, and furthermore, the compound released imagewise is an indazole derivative. It is known that there are many cases in which derivatives do not exhibit sufficient development inhibiting effects. It has been found that the novel photographic developer of the present invention has unexpectedly excellent performance in overcoming the insufficient activity of DIR-hydroquinone compounds as described above. (Object of the Invention) Therefore, the first object of the present invention is to provide a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing a novel photographic developer. A second object of the present invention is to provide a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material containing a photographic developer that promptly releases photographically useful groups after being oxidized in a development process. A third object of the present invention is to provide a silver halide photographic material that contains a novel photographic developer and has improved image tone control, image graininess, image sharpness, and color reproduction. Similar to the DIR hydroquinones described in No. 3379529, etc., it is cross-oxidized by a redox reaction with the oxidized developing agent produced in an imagewise manner during development, releases a development inhibitor in an imagewise manner, and converts into a colorless oxidized product. It is estimated to be. The development inhibiting substance released in an imagewise manner suppresses development in an imagewise manner, and exhibits DIR effects such as making the image finer, softening the image tone, improving image sharpness, and improving color reproduction. Such a DIR compound of the present invention is similar to the conventional DIR compound as described below.
Compared to hydroquinone, it has extremely high activity and shows surprising effects even when added in small amounts. The photographic developer of the present invention can be equally used in light-sensitive materials to be developed in black and white as well as in light-sensitive materials for forming color images. The amount used is not particularly limited, but preferably 10 -6 to
1 mol/molAg, particularly preferably 10 -5 to
It is in the range of 10 -1 mol/molAg. The photographic developer of the present invention can be dispersed and introduced into the photographic layer by a known method. In this case, even if the photographic developer of the present invention is used alone,
Alternatively, two or more types may be used in combination. Further, the photographic developer of the present invention can be used in combination with a coupler and added to the same emulsion layer as the coupler, or can be made into an independent emulsified dispersion and added to a photographic auxiliary layer such as an intermediate layer. The photographic developer of the present invention has the following effects on the poor in each photosensitive layer, such as the yellow coupler in the blue-sensitive layer, the magenta coupler in the green-sensitive layer, or the cyan coupler in the red-sensitive layer in a color photosensitive material. It is preferable to use 0.1 to 50 mol%, preferably 0.3 to 15 mol%. The photographic developer of the present invention can be introduced into the silver halide emulsion layer by known methods, such as the U.S. Pat.

The average grain size of the silver halide grains in the photographic emulsion (the grain size is the grain diameter in the case of spherical or approximately spherical grains, the ridge length in the case of cubic grains,
Expressed as an average based on projected area. ) is not particularly limited, but is preferably 3μ or less. The grain size distribution can be narrow (so-called "monodisperse") or wide. Silver halide grains in photographic emulsions can be regular (cubic, octahedral, tetradecahedral, or rhombidodecahedral). It may have a crystalline form, or it may have an irregular crystalline form such as a spherical or plate-like form, or it may have a composite form of these crystal forms. It is also possible to use an emulsion in which ultratabular silver halide grains with a grain diameter of five times or more the grain thickness occupy 50% or more of the total projected area. 127921, No. 58-113927, etc. Silver halide grains may have different phases inside and on the surface. Also, silver halide grains may have different phases in their interior and surface layer. Also, they may be grains in which latent images are mainly formed on the surface. The photographic emulsion used in the present invention is described by P. Glafkides.

The photographic developer of the present invention can be used in various silver halide photographic light-sensitive materials, and is useful for both black and white, color, etc., and is also useful for general black and white, black and white for printing, and X-ray. It can be applied to silver halide photographic materials for various purposes such as electron beam, high resolution black and white, diffusion transfer black and white, general color, color X-ray, and diffusion transfer color. Since the photographic developer of the present invention is highly active, it is oxidized and rapidly releases a development inhibitor. Therefore, just by adding a small amount, you can control the tone of the image.
It can provide DIR effects such as making images finer, improving image sharpness, and improving color reproduction. Furthermore, the photographic developer of the present invention is stable even in silver halide photographic light-sensitive materials and does not deteriorate storage stability, so it can be used with confidence. Next, the present invention will be explained in more detail with reference to Examples, but the present invention is not limited thereto. Example 1 Preparation of sample 1: 1 kg of silver iodobromide emulsion prepared by a conventional method (silver amount: 0.6 mol, iodine: 8 mol %)
was spectrally sensitized using sensitizing dye I3 x 10 -4 mol/silver 1 mol and sensitizing dye I 3 x 10 -4 mol/silver 1 mol. 560 g of emulsion B obtained by dissolving 100 g of coupler A, 100 ml of tolyl cresyl phosphate, and 200 ml of ethyl acetate, and emulsifying and dispersing the mixture in 1 kg of 10% gelatin aqueous solution using 4 g of sodium nonylbenzenesulfonate was added to the above spectrally sensitized iodine. Add to 1 kg of silver bromide emulsion and stir, add 2-hydroxy-4,6-dichloro-1,3,5-triazine sodium salt as a hardening agent.
1.4g was added as an aqueous solution. The coating solution thus prepared was coated on a cellulose triacetate film support so that the amount of coated silver was 1.5 g/m 2 . On top of this, add 2-hydroxy-4,6-dichloro- to 1 kg of 10% gelatin solution.
2 g of 1,3,5-triazine sodium salt was added and applied as a protective layer to a dry film thickness of 1.5 microns. Preparation of samples 2 to 6: In the case of emulsification of sample 1, compounds 2, 3, 6, (a) + (b) or (c) are also added to the oil.
Samples 2 to 6 were prepared in the same manner as sample 1 except for adding

-1 and a surfactant were added. The sample prepared as described above was designated as sample 7. The compounds used to prepare the samples are shown below. Samples 8, 9, and 10: Samples 8, 9, and 10 were prepared by removing Compound 2 from Sample 7 and adding the same amounts of Compounds 7, 17, and Comparative Compound (c) instead. Sample 11: Produced in the same manner as Sample 7 except that Compound 2 was removed from Sample 7. After exposing the sample thus obtained, it was developed in the same manner as in Example 1, and graininess and sharpness were evaluated using the RMS (Root Mean Square) method and
Table 2 shows the results of evaluation using the MTF method. In addition,
Graininess determination using the RMS method and sharpness determination using the MTF method are well known among those involved, and each is based on “Photographic Science and Engineering.”

From the results in Table 2, samples 7, 8, and 9 to which the compound of the present invention was added had extremely good graininess and image sharpness compared to sample 11 to which no additive was added and sample 10 to which comparative compound (c) was added. I understand that there is something. Example 3 A silver halide emulsion consisting of 80 mol% silver chloride, 19.5 mol% silver bromide, and 0.5 mol% silver iodide was prepared by gold sensitization and sulfur sensitization in a conventional manner. Further, gelatin contained in this emulsion was 45% by weight based on silver halide. This emulsion contains 5-
[3-(δsulfobutyl)-5-chloro-2-oxazolidylidene ethylidene]-1-hydroxyethoxyethyl-3-(2-pyridyl)-2-thiohydantoin potassium salt (spectral sensitizer), dodecylbenzene Sodium sulfonate (surfactant),
After adding the polymer latex described in Preparation Example Formulation 3 of U.S. Pat. No. 3,525,620, 2-hydroxy-
4,6-dichloro-1,3,5-triazine sodium salt (hardening agent) was added in an amount of 2.6% by weight based on the total dry gelatin (that is, based on the total dry gelatin including the non-photosensitive upper layer described below). and further,
A methanol solution of the compound shown in Table 3 was added to prepare a coating solution for a photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer. At the same time, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (surfactant) and polymethyl methacrylate latex (matting agent) with an average particle size of 3.0 to 4.0 μm were added to the 5% gelatin solution and applied for the non-photosensitive upper layer. I made a liquid. Next, the photosensitive silver halide emulsion layer coating solution and the non-photosensitive upper layer coating solution were coated onto a polyethylene terephthalate support by a two-layer simultaneous coating method. The amount of coated silver was 3.0 g/m 2 , and the dry film thickness of the non-photosensitive upper layer was 1.0 μm. These samples were exposed to white tungsten light for 8 seconds through a step wedge with a step height of 0.1. Further, halftone dot images were formed using these samples by the following method. That is, a commercially available negative gray contact screen (150 lines/inch) was brought into close contact with the sample, and white tungsten light was exposed to the screen for 10 seconds through a step wedge with a step height of 0.1. The above exposed sample was heated at 38℃ using the following developer.
Develop for 20 seconds, fix by normal method,
Washed with water and dried. Developer composition Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt 1g Sodium sulfite 67g Hydroquinone 23g 1-phenyl-3-pyrazolidone 0.4g Potassium hydroxide 11g Sodium carbonate (monohydrate) 11g Potassium bromide 3.0g Add water 1 PH = 10.65 Relative Table 3 shows the results of evaluation regarding sensitivity and γ. [Table] As is clear from Table 3, the sample using the compound of the present invention was compared to sample 16 using comparative compound c.
It can be seen that samples Nos. 13 to 15 have a large effect of softening the gradation, that is, the development inhibitor is quickly released. Example 4 In samples 2 and 3 of Example 1, compounds 22 and 3 of the present invention were replaced with compounds 22 and 3, respectively.
Samples 17 and 18 were prepared by adding 23. These samples 17 and 18 were evaluated in the same manner as in Example 1, and the results shown in Table 4 were obtained. From the results in Table 4, it can be seen that compounds 22 and 23 also have an extremely large tone softening effect. 【table】
