(Industrial Field of Application) The present invention relates to a method of forming a separation active layer by coating the surface of hollow fibers with a thin film developed by a water surface spreading method in the production of hollow fiber composite membranes. (Prior Art) As a method for forming a thin film as a separation layer on a porous support, methods such as a polymer solution coating method, a plasma polymerization method, an interfacial polymerization method, and a water surface spreading method are known. The present invention relates to a method for forming a thin film-like separation layer by a water surface spreading method. There have been various methods for forming thin films by the water surface spreading method, such as Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 1983-
41958, JP 51-89564, JP 55-103929, JP 57-190606, and JP 58-3829 have been proposed. However, all of the methods described therein are related to the technique of winding up a thin film spread on a water surface onto a flat support, and are methods of continuously coating the surface of a fibrous material with a thin film using the water surface spread method described above. is not disclosed. Until now, the method of forming a thin film on a fibrous material was to apply a polymer solution (Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 1973-
86684) There is a plasma polymerization method (Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 59-6904), but the former method has the drawback that it is difficult to apply a thin film and lacks uniformity, while the latter plasma polymerization method allows thin films but requires expensive equipment. There was a problem with low productivity. (Problems to be Solved by the Invention) The present invention solves the problems in the prior art, namely (1) It is difficult to coat a thin film of 1.0μ or less, (2) It is difficult to coat uniformly, and (3) The equipment is expensive and productivity is low. The point is to solve the problem. (Means for Solving the Problems) In order to solve the above problems, the present invention has been arrived at as a result of intensive research. That is, in the present invention, a polymer solution is continuously spread on the water surface to form a water surface spread membrane, and a hollow fiber porous membrane with a maximum pore diameter of 2500°A or less is spread from the water surface side to the water layer side of the water surface spread membrane. This is a method for producing a hollow fiber composite membrane, characterized in that a water surface spreading membrane is transferred to the surface of the hollow fiber porous membrane by continuously running the membrane so as to penetrate through the membrane surface. FIG. 1 shows an example of the present invention. In FIG. 1, the polymer solution discharged from the polymer solution supply port 3 is spread on the surface of the water surface 12 to form a water surface spread film 5. The formed water surface spreading film 5 is stored in a polymer storage tank 7 via a conveyor 4 and is reused. The water surface developing membrane has fluidity near the polymer supply port 3, and as it moves toward the conveyor 4, the solvent evaporates and solidifies. Next, the hollow fiber porous membrane 6 is placed between the polymer solution supply port 3 and the conveyor 4 at a position where the water surface spreading membrane preferably still has fluidity, from the opposite side of the water layer to the water layer side. It is run while penetrating the water surface spreading membrane to transfer the water surface spreading membrane to the surface of the hollow fiber porous membrane. The thus coated hollow fibers are sent out of the water surface spreading device by a fiber feed roller 13. The roller 13 is preferably made of Teflon to prevent the coated film from adhering to the roller. The polymers used as the thin film materials used in the present invention include polyester, polyamide, polyurethane,
Examples include polysulfone, polyethersulfone, polyimide, polyamide/imide, polysulfonamide, etc., but these are determined depending on the purpose of coating, and when coating as a hydrogen separation membrane, polysulfone, polyethersulfone, polyimide, polysulfone are used. Amides are preferred. Materials for the hollow fiber porous membrane that can be used in the present invention include polyester, polyamide, polyacrylonitrile, polyolefin, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polytetrafluoroethylene, polyimide, polysulfone, polysulfonamide, and the like. A hollow fiber composite membrane having the best separation performance can be obtained by using a hollow fiber porous membrane with a maximum pore diameter of 2000°A or less determined by the bubble point method. Maximum pore diameter is 2000°A
In the above cases, coating defects are likely to occur, and only a membrane with low separation properties can be obtained. However, the maximum pore diameter determined by the bubble point method is a value calculated using methanol as the impregnating liquid and using the pressure at which bubbles are generated from the hollow fiber porous membrane at a rate of 1 pc/1 m. A field where the technology of the present invention can be applied is a field in which the surface of a porous hollow fiber used as a separation membrane is uniformly coated with an ultra-thin film to impart separation activity without reducing the permeability of the hollow fiber. It is particularly suitable for manufacturing hydrogen gas separation membranes, and in such cases, hollow fibers of polyimide, hollysulfone, and polysulfonamide are used as the fibrous material, and polyethersulfone, polysulfone, and polysulfonamide are used as the high molecular weight polymer for the thin membrane material. It is. When applying a high molecular weight polymer to form a thin film on a hollow fiber porous membrane, a solvent solution of the high molecular weight polymer, which is the thin film material, is used, but the solvent is a poor solvent for the hollow fiber porous membrane. It is desirable that it is a good solvent for the high molecular weight polymer of the material. In general, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters, ethers,
Common solvents such as alcohols and halogenated hydrocarbons are used, but aromatic hydrocarbon solvents such as benzene and toluene, methyl ethyl ketone, and methyl isobutyl ketones are particularly preferred. The direction of penetration into the water surface spreading membrane to form a thin film on the surface of the hollow fiber porous membrane is that a thin film can be formed on the surface of the object to be treated by penetrating from either the top or bottom of the membrane surface. When bringing the material to be treated into contact with the membrane, it is preferable that the hollow fiber porous membrane is not wet from the viewpoint of adhesion between the hollow fiber porous membrane and the thin membrane, so the penetration direction is preferably from the upper part of the surface of the membrane developed on the water surface downward. preferable. Its penetration angle is 5°
~175°, preferably 60° to 120°. The thickness of the thin film formed on the surface of the hollow fiber porous membrane in the present invention is determined by the following empirical formula. l=1/d・q・c・v/w・v×10 4 l: thin film (μ) c: coating agent concentration (wt%) q: coating agent supply amount (g/min) w: width of developed film (cm) v: Conveyor winding speed (cm/min) d: Draft rate (constant determined by fiber running speed and system) v: Specific volume of coating polymer (cm 3 /g) Hollow according to the present invention The thickness of the thin film formed on the surface of the porous fiber membrane is 0.01 to 0.5μ, and the concentration of the polymer solvent solution (corresponding to “c” in the above formula), which is the thin film material, is 1 to achieve this purpose. ~30% by weight, and the feed rate ("q" in the above formula) of the polymer solvent solution varies depending on the target film thickness, but is generally 0.1 to 3.0 g/min. The winding speed (“v” in the above formula) of the water-surface-deployed film is also determined by the target film thickness, but is generally 3 to 30 m/min.
It is min. (Example) Polyether sulfone (manufactured by ICI, trade name
A 5% 1,1,2,2,tetrachloroethane solution of VictreX-600P) was added to the polymer feed port 3 shown in Figure 1.
The polyether sulfone is supplied at a speed of 0.25 cm 3 /min and spread on the surface of the water surface 6, and taken up by the conveyor 4 at a winding speed of 1 m/min to continuously form a water surface spread film of polyether sulfone on the water surface 6. let Various separately prepared poly(sulfone-amide) porous membranes are placed between the polymer solution supply port 3 and the conveyor 4, at a position where the polymer solution still has fluidity, from the side opposite to the water layer. It was run at a speed of 9 m/min towards the water layer side, and the water surface spread membrane of polyethersulfone was transferred to the surface of the poly(sulfone-amide) porous membrane to form a thin film. Next, the polytetrafluoroethylene fiber feed roller 12 sends the fibers out of the water surface spreading device, and the drying tower 8 dries the protective oil (trade name) in the protective oiling tank 9.
Ultratex (manufactured by CIBAGEIGY) was attached and wound up using a winding machine 10. The coating thickness of the hollow fiber composite membrane thus obtained, the permeation rate of H 2 and CO gas, and
Table 1 shows the H 2 /co separation coefficient. As shown in Table 1, a hollow fiber composite membrane with high H 2 permeation rate was obtained. The coated film thickness was measured by electron microscopy or ellipsometer method.
