CONSTITUTION:This filter medium 1 consists of the paper sludge which is formed by dehydrating the paper sludge in the state of being generated in a paper making process to about 30 to 50% moisture content, a carbonization assisting material consisting of, for example, a mixted solution composed of phosphoric acid and calcium chloride, potassium permanganate, or a mixted solution composed of the potassium permanganate and cobalt chloride, etc., and clay which burns and solidifies at a temp. lower than the temp. at which carbon burns. The above-mentioned filter medium is formed by kneading the paper sludge, the carbonization assisting material and the clay and burning and solidifying the kneaded mixture at about the temp. at which the carbon does not burn.

リウム(KMnO4)、或いは過マンガン酸カリウムと塩
化コバルト(CaCl26H2O)の混合溶液等を使用す
る。これらの炭化補助材を適宜使い分けることによって
用途に合った濾過材を得ることができる。この点につい
ては後述する。粘土は、カーボンが燃えない温度、すな
わち450〜470℃程度の温度で焼成できるものを使
用する。例えば上質の水簸粘土等がこれに該当する。

し、スラッヂを除去した染色排水をその濾過塔で濾過し

【発明の効果】本発明の濾過材には、次のような優れた
効果がある。従来処分に困っていたペーパースラッヂ
を原料とするため、公害防止に貢献する。ペーパース
ラッヂは、本来廃材であるため殆ど原料費がかからず、
且つ、炭化補助材と粘土を混練して焼成するだけの簡単
な製法で製造できるため、カーボン製の濾過材が非常に
安く提供できる。マンガンゼオライトやマンガン砂の
ように薬品をコーティングした濾過材では、長期間使用
或いは逆洗することによって薬品が剥脱し、濾過能力の
低下が問題となるが、本発明の濾過材は、粘土の内部に
までカーボンが混ざっているため、表面が摩耗しても濾
過能力は低下しない。粘土を付形材として使用するた
め、濾過材を自由な形状に加工することができる。従っ
て、例えば図2に示したような円筒形にして内部に排気
ガスを通し、その排気ガス中の有害物質を吸着させるよ
うにする等、あらゆる分野に応用することができる。
焼き固まった粘土によって全体の形が保たれているた
め、カーボン100%の濾過材に比べて硬い。従って、
急速接触瀘過ができる。濾過材に不純物等が付着して
も表面を焼くことによって簡単に再生することができ
る。焼成時における粘土とペーパースラッヂの収縮率
が違うため、濾過材の内部には微細な孔が無数にできて
いる。この微細な孔によって濾過材の表面積が広くな
り、濾過能力が飛躍的に高まる。
