FIG. 8 shows an example of a state in which a large number of transparent fine particles 8 having a refractive index different from that of the light guide plate 1 are embedded as light scatterers inside the flat plate portion 13. In this example, the light propagating in the flat plate portion 13 is divided into a plurality of components in the thickness direction of the flat plate portion 13, and the light of each component is sequentially diffused in the plane direction of the flat plate portion 13 so that the transparent fine particles 8 are dispersed. However, it is buried in a curved convex shape from one side of the bar-shaped portion 14 to the side of the other bar-shaped portion 14 so as to be closest to the surface at the central portion of the flat plate portion 13.

Further, the amount of light emitted from the fluorescent lamps 2 and 2 and propagating in the flat plate portion 13 is larger as it is closer to the fluorescent lamps 2 and 2 and is smaller as it is farther from the fluorescent lamps 2, 2. In order to make the amount of irregular reflection of the fluorescent particles uniform, the transparent fine particles 8 are embedded so as to have the highest density in the central portion farthest from the fluorescent lamps 2, 2. Therefore, the light guided from the rod-shaped portions 14, 14 to the flat plate portion 13 is diffusely reflected by the transparent fine particles 8 embedded in the above-described state, and is directly or after being diffusely reflected, arranged on the back surface of the flat plate portion 13. Since the light is reflected again by the light reflection plate 6 and is emitted from the surface of the flat plate portion 13 uniformly and with high brightness, the liquid crystal display element E can be uniformly illuminated from the back surface.

The other end of the flat plate portion 13 where the rod-shaped portion 14 is not provided is cut substantially at a right angle, and the aluminum reflection film 9 is adhered to the end face thereof. The reflective film 9 is for reflecting the light, which is guided to the flat plate portion 13 and has traveled toward the reflective film 9, back to the flat plate portion 13. Further, the transparent fine particles 8 are embedded in the flat plate portion 13 as in the above.

In this example, the light propagating in the flat plate portion 13 is divided into each component in the thickness direction of the flat plate portion 13, and the light of each component is transparent so as to be diffusely reflected in the plane direction of the flat plate portion 13. The fine particles 8 are embedded in a curved convex inclined surface shape from one end where the rod-shaped portion 14 is formed to the other end where the reflection film 9 is adhered so that the other end is closest to the surface. ..

The amount of light emitted from the fluorescent lamp 2 and propagating in the flat plate portion 13 is larger at one end portion closer to the fluorescent lamp 2 and smaller at the other end portion farther from the fluorescent lamp 2, so that the flat plate portion 13 is smaller. In order to make the amount of irregular reflection of light in the surface direction of (1) uniform, the transparent fine particles 8 are embedded so that the other end has the highest density. For this reason, the light guided from the rod-shaped portion 14 to the flat plate portion 13 is diffusely reflected by the transparent fine particles 8 embedded in the above state and is directly or after being diffusely reflected, and is arranged on the back surface of the flat plate portion 13.
