The surge tank is usually formed in the shape of a rectangular parallelepiped with an arbitrary volume, and is generally mounted parallel to the longitudinal direction of the engine body. An air inlet that communicates with the inside of the throttle body is opened at one end in the longitudinal direction, and this air inlet is located on the brake booster or master cylinder side arranged on the dash panel side, while the air inlet is placed on the side of the cylinder row connected to the intake pipe. There are many cases in which one side wall has the same number of air outlet ports as the number of cylinders.

It is desirable that it be formed to have a desired length. Therefore,
Various efforts have been made to ensure that the intake pipes have the same length as required. As a specific prior art, as shown in Japanese Utility Model Application Laid-open No. 61-59863, there is a technique in which a surge tank is placed closer to the darts panel to ensure the required length of the intake pipe.

In order to prevent this, the fuel supply device etc. must be placed on the passenger compartment side. As a result, in vehicles that adopt the F/F system,
The surge tank is relatively often placed close to the darts panel that partitions the engine room and the passenger compartment. Therefore, it is not easy to extend the intake pipe toward the passenger compartment and ensure the required length.

The throttle body and the air hose upstream of the throttle body often interfere with the brake booster, master cylinder, etc.

Form the air inlet side of the surge tank in a dogleg shape so that it is slanted away from the engine body, and form each intake pipe so that the shortest distance between it and the dash panel is equal. It is characterized by opening toward the engine main body side, and making the axis of the surge tank and the axis of the air inlet intersect at a specific angle.

According to the above configuration, the surge tank is located at the highest position in the engine room, on the passenger compartment side, and at a relatively higher position than the intake port, so the inside of the surge tank and the intake port are communicated. It is possible to secure a plurality of intake pipes having the same length and a required length to enhance the inertial effect of intake air.

Moreover, since the air inlet opens toward the engine body, the throttle body, air hose, etc. connected upstream of this air inlet will not interfere with the brake booster, master cylinder, etc. installed on the adjacent darth panel side. can be avoided. Furthermore, since the shortest distance between each intake pipe and the dash panel is equal, in other words, the straight line formed by connecting the sides of each intake pipe closest to the dash panel is parallel to the dash panel, collisions may occur. When the engine body moves rearward and collides with the dash panel, force is evenly applied to the dash panel from the intake pipe, making it possible to prevent damage to only a specific portion of the dash panel.

Its side is located on the side of the brake booster 29 fixed to the dash panel 12, and it is also slightly moved toward the side opposite to the air inlet with respect to the engine body 3. The surge tank 7 is located at a higher position than the intake port 8. The inside of this surge tank 7 and the intake port 8 are air passages 13a to 16a formed in the front part 10 of the intake pipe 9 extending downward from the rear wall 7a of the surge tank 7.
Then, from below the front section 10, the engine body 3
It is formed in the rear part 11 extending toward the air passages 18a to 21a, and is communicated with the air passages 18a to 21a to have equal lengths. In addition, the branch portions 13 to 16 of the intake pipe 9 for each cylinder are arranged so that the shortest distance between them and the dash panel 12 is at equal intervals, in other words, the line segment connecting the outermost parts thereof is parallel to the dash panel 12. It is formed like this.

That will happen. On the other hand, since the air inlet 28 faces toward the engine body 3, the throttle body 5 connected to the end wall 7b and the air hose 6 upstream of the throttle body 5 are connected to the engine body 3 and the dash panel 1.
It will be located between the brake booster 29 and the like fixed to the brake booster 2.

トルク性能を向上させることができる。 Therefore, if the surge tank 7 has the configuration and operation as described above, the surge tank 7 can be installed in the vehicle compartment 4 which has a relatively large vertical space within the engine room 2.
Therefore, the intake pipe 9 that communicates the inside of the surge tank 7 with the intake port 8 can be extended upward by a required distance without interfering with the dash panel 12. Therefore, the corresponding air passages 13a to 16a, 18a to 21a in the intake pipe 9 leading to each cylinder are of equal length.
Moreover, it can be formed to an optimal size that maximizes the inertial effect of intake air. As a result, air is uniformly distributed to each cylinder, so there is no variation in output, and torque performance can be improved over a wide range of operating ranges.

Throttle opening sensors and the like can be placed without any problems. Furthermore, since the air inlet 28 faces the engine body 3 side, the throttle body 5 located upstream of the air inlet 28, the air hose 6 leading to the air cleaner, etc. are connected to the brake booster 29 attached to the dash panel 12 nearby. It can be located between the master cylinder etc. and the engine body 3. Therefore, maintenance and inspection of these devices and the like can be performed without interfering with other adjacent devices, thereby improving maintainability.

Since the cylinder can be formed in a straight line, stable output can be obtained between each cylinder, and high torque can be obtained over a wide operating range.

In the engine, the surge tank is arranged at a higher position than the intake port, and the air inlet side of the surge tank is formed in a dogleg shape to move away from the engine body so that the axis of the surge tank is inclined with the dash panel. Then, form each suction pipe so that the shortest distance between it and the dash panel is the same, and open the air inlet toward the engine body to align the surge tank axis and the air inlet axis to a specific position. A surge tank arrangement structure characterized by intersecting at different angles.
