The present invention relates to a fungicide for feed. The usefulness of propionic acid and its salts as fungicides has been widely known. However, when such fungicides are used in feed, the amount used is limited to 0.3% or less as propionic acid by the Act on Ensuring Safety and Quality Improvement of Feed.
The fungicidal effect of propionic acid or its salts may be insufficient depending on the feed composition, form, and storage method, and a propionic acid concentration of 0.3% may not suppress mold growth, leading to a decline in feed quality. Alternatively, feed may have to be discarded, resulting in large industrial losses. The present inventors conducted research to solve the above-mentioned difficult problem, and found that when a combination of propionic acid or its salts is present in seaweed, the growth of mold is surprisingly suppressed to a high degree. It has been found that when the combination is used in feed or feed additives, it has a surprising effect on mildew prevention. The present invention provides propionic acid or its salts, especially sodium or calcium salts, to seaweeds, especially brown algae, such as sargassum, wakame, and kelp.
1 to 20% by weight of propionic acid based on seaweed
This is a feed-use fungicide composition that is uniformly mixed in a proportion of . The seaweed component in this antifungal composition for feed may be fresh seaweed washed, dried and crushed, or powdered. Mixing such seaweed components into the feed increases the proportion of natural components in the feed, which is nutritionally preferable. The feed fungicide composition of the present invention is suitable for use as a fungicide for animal feed and its additives, and is particularly suitable as a fungicide for feed containing a large amount of oyster shell. The application amount varies from 1 to 20% by weight depending on the composition or use of the target feed and additives, but it is usually preferable to use 3% by weight or more. Of course, it is necessary from a legal regulatory standpoint to ensure that the propionic acid concentration in the final feed does not exceed 0.3%. By using the fungicide of the present invention, it is possible to suppress the growth of mold in animal feed or feed additives for a long period of time, especially for feed that has a composition that is susceptible to mold growth or feed that is stored in hot and humid conditions. The effect is remarkable. Moreover, it has the advantage of preventing deterioration in the quality of feed, which is often not possible with conventional fungicides. What is surprising is that when a legally permissible amount of propionic acid or its salt is mixed into feed in combination with seaweed, the antifungal effect is dramatically enhanced compared to when each is used alone. It will be done.
From this, it is considered that the combination of the two produces a synergistic effect. The following test results are presented to demonstrate the unexpected effects of the present invention in this regard. Mainly composed of oyster shell, which contains methionine, paprika, animal fat, and vitamins A and D3.
The fungicides shown in Table 1 below are added to the basic feed additive in the amounts shown in Table 1, and the mixture is heated at a temperature of 30°C and a humidity of 100°C.

When observing the state of mold growth on a daily basis, mold growth occurred within 5 days when the above composition was not added, but no mold growth occurred for at least 15 days when it was added.
