The recording density of this ink jet recording system has temperature dependency, and the relationship between the recording density and the ambient temperature generally becomes lower as the temperature decreases, as shown in FIG. This is because when the temperature becomes low, the viscosity of the ink becomes large and the ejection amount of the ink decreases. Since an ordinary recording apparatus is set to have an appropriate density at room temperature (for example, 20 ° C.), the recording density becomes lower than the appropriate value in a low temperature environment.

As can be seen from the figure, the ink temperature can be temporarily raised to an appropriate temperature by selecting the pulse energization time.

At this time, the viscosity of the ink is the same as that at room temperature, and therefore by performing recording (that is, ink ejection) without delay, it is possible to obtain an appropriate recording density equivalent to that at room temperature.

If the environmental temperature is 10 ° C., the ink temperature rises 10 degrees to 20 ° C. by energizing the heat retention heater for 50 ms as shown in FIG. 3, so that an appropriate recording density can be obtained by quick recording.
In this way, the energization time to the heat retention heater at each environmental temperature can be determined as shown in FIG.

Therefore, in the serial scanning type recording apparatus, it is common to energize the heat retention heater only once at the beginning of each recording line. In order to simplify the control, the energization timing of the heat retention heater at the beginning of each line is such that the heat retention heater is energized with the carrier stopped and the carrier is driven immediately after the end of energization, or the energization start of the heat retention heater is controlled to drive the carrier. It is synchronized with.

ことになる。Note that, due to the limitation of the power supply capacity of the recording apparatus, it is often the case that the heat retention heater cannot be energized at the same time as the discharge heater. Therefore, when energizing the heat retention heater while the carrier is being driven, if the energization time is set too long, energization of the discharge heater may start and both may be energized at the same time. Therefore, in this case, it is necessary to end the energization time of the heat retention heater between the start of driving the carrier and the start of recording (that is, the start of energization of the discharge heater). Therefore, the energization time to the heat retention heater, that is, the amount of temperature rise of the ink is limited. When the amount of temperature rise of ink is insufficient and it is desired to energize for a longer time than this, the carrier is stopped by the insufficient amount to energize to compensate.

It takes extra time for each row to turn on the heat insulation heater. Therefore, in order not to lengthen the time required for recording, it is desirable to energize the heat retention heater during carrier drive from the start of carrier drive to the start of discharge heater energization as much as possible.

If recording control is interrupted during energization, it takes an extra time for the energization time, so it is desirable to energize at the same time during some recording operation.

A sheet feeding operation of aligning the positions of recording sheets is performed. Therefore, the energization timing of the heat retention heater at the page head is such that the energization start is synchronized with the reverse drive start of the recording sheet.

It can be said that the area around the heat-retaining heater, including the above, is warmed once so that a certain amount of heat is spread, and the heating at the beginning of each line becomes smoother.

In many cases, there are a plurality of drive control methods. As a typical example, the paper feed control is performed after manually setting the recording paper to a predetermined position,
In some cases, the paper is manually fed, and in some cases, the recording paper is stored in the automatic paper feeding device, and the recording paper is taken out from the automatic paper feeding device and conveyed to the inside of the recording device.

By manually rotating it forward,
So that the position of the recording head 31 becomes the recording first line position,
The leading edge of the recording sheet is conveyed until it is aligned with the recording sheet setting position A for manual feeding. After that, in order to remove the backlash of the drive gear train of the conveying roller 32a by the recording command, first, the conveying roller 32a is reversed, and the recording sheet 33 is conveyed in the reverse direction until the leading edge of the recording sheet changes from position A to position E. To do. Then, the transport roller 32a is normally rotated again until the leading edge of the recording sheet returns to the position A, and the setting of the recording sheet is completed. Only one recording sheet is conveyed in the forward direction from the position B in the automatic sheet feeder 38. Here, the drive gear train of the carry roller 32b is provided with a one-way clutch, and when the paper feed motor is rotated in the reverse direction, the drive force is not transmitted to the carry roller 32b, and only the gear train turns from this. 1 by reverse operation
After the directional clutch is disengaged, the driving force is not transmitted to the transport roller 32b even if the paper feed motor is normally rotated again.

Reverse the paper feed motor to disengage the one-way clutch in b. At this time, the leading edge of the recording sheet is fed back to the C position, but since the conveying force in the reverse direction to the recording sheet is lost at the C position as described above, the leading edge of the recording sheet is stopped at the C position. When the one-way clutch is disengaged due to the reverse rotation of the paper feed motor, the transport roller 32a is normally rotated to transport the leading edge of the recording paper from the position C to the position A, and the setting of the recording paper is completed. During the conveyance of the recording paper, the time from the reverse rotation of the paper feed motor to the normal rotation again to complete the setting of the recording paper is set to T B ms .

タイミングを図5(A)に示す。In the conventional example, when the heat insulation heater is energized at the page head, the energization start timing is set at the same time as the reverse rotation start of the paper feed motor. Further, assuming that the normal recording is often performed from the recording first row position, the time when the recording sheet is set to the recording first row position, that is, the time when the leading edge of the recording sheet is conveyed to the position A in FIG. Is set as the target time, and the energization time to the heat retaining heater at the page is determined so that the preheating effect is appropriate at this target time. While energizing the heat retention heater, raise the temperature of the ink once,
Thereafter, the temperature is naturally lowered by heat dissipation, so that the preheating effect occurs. However, if the time after the end of energization becomes long at this time, the preheating effect disappears. In addition, this time differs depending on the time for energizing the heat retention heater.
Therefore, in the case of manual feeding, since T A ms is from the start of energization of the heat retention heater to the target time, the energization time is set for each environmental temperature so that the energization time and the heat radiation time are appropriate for each environmental temperature, for example. I can decide. FIG. 5A shows the drive timing of the paper feed motor and the energization timing of the heat retention heater at this time.

Generally different. Therefore, when the automatic paper feeder is used, if the energization time table FIG. 6 set for manual feeding is used, the result is as shown in FIG. 5B. Therefore, when the automatic paper feeding device is used, the time from the end of energization to the target time becomes longer than in the case of manual feeding, and there is a drawback that an appropriate preheating effect cannot be obtained.

This will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. First, in the case of manual feeding, at the same timing as that in the conventional case (that is, the energization of the warming heater is started by the start of the reverse rotation of the paper feed motor), the energization is performed according to the energization time of the table of FIG. This is to detect the environmental temperature in step S1, determine the pulse energization time from FIG. 6 in step S2, and set the pulse energization start to the reverse rotation start of the paper feed motor in step S3. Then, through step S4,
In step S5, the heater is pulse-energized.

On the assumption that the timing of the reverse rotation start of the paper feed motor is used as the condition for starting the energization of the heat retention heater, in order to make the energization start the same as the case of manual feeding, when using the automatic paper feeder, It is necessary to send the start of energization rather than. Therefore, the reverse rotation start of the prerequisites That paper feed motor, T B in step S6 -
When the energization start is delayed by T A ms , the timing of the energization start time of the heat retention heater with respect to the set time of the recording sheet to the first row position of the recording sheet is also changed as shown in FIG. It can be the same as for manual feeding. Therefore, it is possible to prevent the recording density, particularly the recording density at the top of the page, from varying between the case of automatic paper feeding and the case of manual feeding.

In addition, energization of the heat retention heater is started at a timing such that the time from the end of energization to the target time is always the same time T C ms.

If the energization time determined by the environmental temperature in S12 is X ms , the reverse rotation of the paper feed motor is started in step S16.

This was based on the assumption that, in the general case, it would often be recorded from the first record position. However, in practice, recording may not be performed from the first line position due to the layout of characters and the like on the recording paper, and recording may be started by skipping the upper few lines. In this case, for the time required to feed the number of skipped lines,
Since the start of recording is later than the target time at which the correction effect is appropriate, the correction effect is weakened (falls in temperature) by an amount corresponding to the delay. This embodiment is intended to eliminate the above-mentioned drawbacks.

This is equivalent to a delay of D ms from the time of the recording first line position on the recording paper. That is, in the second embodiment, the target control can be achieved by uniformly delaying the heat retention heater energization timing by (N-1) T D ms .

If it is a line, the pulse energization timing is uniformly delayed by (N-1) T D ms in steps S26 and S27. As a result, the energization timing can be the same regardless of the recording start row, and the recording density can be made constant.

At this time, if a gear train is used as a power transmission mechanism for driving the transport rollers, the reverse rotation of the paper feed motor is required for backlash removal. However, when a friction wheel or a friction belt is used for power transmission, or when the conveyance roller is directly driven without a gear or the like, it is not necessary to reverse the paper feed motor for removing the backlash. Therefore, the reverse rotation of the paper feed motor cannot be used for determining the energization timing of the heat retention heater.

In this embodiment, in the case of the paper feed control during manual feeding, the forward rotation start of the paper feed motor by the recording command is used as the calculation reference of the energization timing of the heat retention heater. In this case, if the time taken for the recording sheet to be conveyed from the C position to the A position is T E , the first embodiment

Not only the method but also the solid ink method in which the solid is melted and ejected at the time of recording by the recording head unit may be used. Further, the heat-retaining heater may directly or indirectly heat the ink, and its type or installation site is not specified. きる。Regarding the typical constitution and principle, for example, US Pat. Nos. 4,723,129 and 47407.
What is done using the basic principles disclosed in the '96 patent is preferred. This method is a so-called on-demand type,
Although it can be applied to any of the continuous type, particularly in the case of the on-demand type, it can be applied to an electrothermal converter arranged corresponding to a sheet or a liquid path holding a liquid (ink). By applying at least one drive signal corresponding to the recorded information and giving a rapid temperature rise exceeding nucleate boiling, heat energy is generated in the electrothermal converter, and film boiling is caused on the heat acting surface of the recording head. As a result, one-to-one correspondence with this drive signal can be made and bubbles in the liquid (ink) can be formed, which is effective. Liquid (ink) is ejected through the ejection openings by the growth and contraction of the bubbles to form at least one droplet. It is more preferable to make this drive signal into a pulse shape, because the bubble growth and contraction are immediately and appropriately performed, so that the ejection of the liquid (ink) with excellent responsiveness can be achieved. This pulse-shaped drive signal is described in U.S. Pat. No. 4,463,359 and No. 43.
Those as described in 45262 are suitable. If the conditions described in US Pat. No. 4,313,124 of the invention relating to the rate of temperature rise on the heat acting surface are adopted, more excellent recording can be performed.

No. 4,558,333, US Pat. No. 4,558,333, which discloses a configuration in which a heat acting portion is arranged in a bending region.
The structure using the specification of 459600 is also included in the present invention. In addition, Japanese Unexamined Patent Publication No. 123670/1984, which discloses a configuration in which a common slit is used as a discharge portion of a plurality of electrothermal converters, and an opening for absorbing a pressure wave of thermal energy are disclosed.
