Description

【発明の詳細な説明】 本発明は新規な群の組成物に関する。さらに詳しくは、
グリース、ヒドロキシ含有金属石けん増粘剤、硼酸エス
テル化エポキシド、および燐成分および硫黄成分からな
る相乗グリース組成物に関する。
米国特許第4,410,438号は潤滑剤組成物に関し、これは
グリースを含み、硼素が過剰に存在する硼酸エステル化
エポキシドからなる。また、ある種の他の形態のエポキ
シドは潤潤滑剤中に使用されてきた。例えば、米国特許
第4,244,829号は潤滑油中に潤滑剤としてエポキシ化脂
肪酸エステルの使用を述べている。
本発明はよれば、（１）主要量のグリースおよび増粘剤
であって、該増粘剤は全増粘剤の重量を基準として少な
くとも15重量％の水酸基含有石けん増粘剤を含んで成
り； （２）以下の式： （式中、Ｒ、Ｒ１、Ｒ２およびＲ３は、水素又は炭素原
子数８ないし30の炭化水素基であり、これらのうち少な
くとも１つは炭化水素基である）のエポキシドを、硼
酸、硼酸酸化物、および以下の式： （Ｒ４Ｏ）xB（OH）ｙ （式中、ｘは１ないし３であり、ｙは０ないし２であ
り、それらの合計は３であり、およびＲ４は炭素原子数
１ないし６個を有するアルキル基である）の硼酸アルキ
ルから選ばれる硼素化合物の少なくともモル量と反応さ
せることにより作られる、全組成物の重量を基準とし
て、0.01重量％ないし10重量％の反応生成物；並びに （３）全組成物の重量を基準として0.01重量％ないし10
重量％の燐と硫黄の化合物、または燐含有化合物と硫黄
含有化合物との混合物であって、 該燐と硫黄の化合物は、以下の式： （式中、Ｒ５は炭素原子数３ないし18個を含む炭化水素
基であり、Ｍは金属または非金属であり、ｎはＭの原子
価であり、およびＸは酸素または硫黄である）のホスホ
ロチオ酸塩であり； 該燐含有化合物と硫黄含有化合物との混合物は、 （ｉ）各炭化水素基に炭素原子２ないし６個を有するジ
ヒドロカルビルホスフィット、この種のホスフィットの
混合物、または各炭化水素基に４ないし20個の炭素原子
を有する燐酸エステル、および （ii）硫化イソブチレン、二硫化ジベンジル、硫化テル
ペン、二硫化ホスホロジチオニルおよび硫化ジョジョ油
から選ばれる硫化物、 の組合せである； から主としてなるグリース組成物を提供する 好ましくは、硼酸エステル化生成物は理論量以上の硼素
を含む。
本発明の硼酸エステル化エポキシドは、エポキシドを硼
酸酸化物、硼酸または硼酸アルキルあるいはそれらの混
合物などの硼素化合物と反応させることにより作ること
ができる。得られる生成物は、主としてモノ硼酸エステ
ルであるが、存在する他の可能な生成物は、エポキシド
ダイマーまたはより高いオリゴマーと硼素化合物との間
の反応で相当する硼酸エステルを形成する生成物であ
る。上記エポキシド類の範囲に包まれるものは、1,2−
エポキシオクタン、1,2−エポキシデカン、1,2−エポキ
シドデカン、1,2−エポキシテトラデカン、1,2−エポキ
シペンタデカン、1,2−エポキシヘキサデカン、1,2−エ
ポキシヘプタデカン、1,2−エポキシオクタデカン、1,2
−エポキシエイコサンおよびこのようなエポキシドの混
合物、および他のエポキシドの混合物である。これら
は、Ｃ２ ２ないしＣ３ ０オレフイン類の混合物のエポキ
シドおよびＣ２ ４ないしＣ２ ８オレフイン類の混合物の
エポキシドを包含する。また、オクテンのダイマー、デ
センのダイマー、混合オクテンとデセンとのダイマーか
らのエポキシド；デセントライマーからのエポキシド；
および同様物も含まれる。炭化水素は、アルキル、アリ
ール、シクロアルキルまたはシクロアルケニルの基を含
むことを意味し、これらは８ないし30個の炭素原子数、
好ましくは10ないし22個の炭素原子数を含む。好ましく
は、炭化水素はアルキル基である。
前に述べた通り、使用する硼素化合物は硼酸、硼酸酸化
物またはアルキル硼酸塩であり、好ましくは硼酸であ
る。アルキル硼酸塩はモノ、ジおよびトリアルキル硼酸
塩、例えばモノ、ジ、およびトリエチル硼酸塩を含む。
硼酸エステルを形成する反応は80℃ないし260℃、好ま
しくは110℃ないし180℃で行うことができる。選定する
温度は、多くの場合特別な反応体によりおよび溶媒を用
いるか否かにより依存するであろう。この反応を行う
時、エポキシドと硼素化合物とのモル比が0.2ないし
１、好ましくは0.5ないし0.9となるように反応体の量を
選ぶことが好ましい。エポキシドを過剰の硼酸エステル
化種と反応させて0.1重量％の硼素ないし10％以上の硼
素を含む硼酸エステルを形成することができる。
大気圧が一般に好ましいけれども、有利には反応を１な
いし５気圧で行うことができる。さらに、条件が許せ
ば、溶媒を用いてもよい。一般に、比較的比極性で非反
応性のあらゆる溶媒を用いることができ、ベンゼン、ト
ルエン、キシレンおよび1,4−ジオキサンを含む。他の
炭化水素溶媒およびプロパノールおよびブタノールを含
むアルコール性溶媒を使用することができる。アルコー
ル溶媒と炭化水素溶媒の混合物も使用できる。
反応時間は臨界的でない。こうして、本方法のあらゆる
面において１ないし20時間で行うことができる。
狭い群の増粘剤は本発明のグリースを作るのに好まれ
る。ヒドロキシ含有脂肪酸のアルカリおよびアルカリ土
類金属石けん、脂肪グリセリド、およびモル当り12ない
し約30の炭素原子数を有する脂肪エステルの少なくとも
一部を含むものは、好ましい増粘剤の間に含まれる。金
属はナトリウム、リチウム、カルシウムおよびバリウム
によつて代表される。リチウムが好ましい。これら酸お
よび脂肪物質のなかで好ましいものは12−ヒドロキシス
テアリン酸および12−ヒドロキシステアリン酸塩を含む
グリセリドである。
増粘剤の全量が前記好ましい成分から誘導されることを
必要とするわけではない。重要な利点は、全増粘剤のわ
ずか約15重量％の好ましい成分を用いることにより達成
できる。補充量、例えば85重量％以下の広範囲の種々の
増粘剤を本発明のグリースに使用できる。他の有用な増
粘剤はメチル−12−ヒドロキシステアレート、Ｃ４ない
しＣ１ ２ジカルボン酸のジエステル、およびタル油脂肪
酸のアルカリまたはアルカリ土類金属石けんを含む。炭
素原子12ないし30個を含み遊離ヒドロキシル基を含まな
い他のアルカリまたはアルカリ土類金属脂肪酸を使用す
ることができる。これらはステアリン酸およびオレイン
酸の石けんを含む。
他の増粘剤は、カルシウムステアリン酸塩−酢酸塩（米
国特許第2,197,263）、バリウムステアリン酸塩−酢酸
塩（米国特許第2,564,561号）、カルシウムステアリン
酸塩−カプリレート−酢酸塩錯体（米国特許第2,999,06
5号）、カルシウムカプリレート−酢酸塩（米国特許第
2,999,066号）、およびカルシウム塩と低、中、高分子
量酸およびナツト油酸の石けんなどの塩および塩−石け
ん錯体を含む。
他の群の増粘剤は置換尿素：フタロシアミン；インダン
スレン；ペリルイミド、ピロメリツトジイミドおよびア
ンメリンなどの顔料；およびある種の疎水性粘土などを
含む。これらの増粘剤は粘土から製造することができる
が、この粘土は当初は親水性であるが、グリース組成物
の成分として使用する前に粘土粒子の表面に長鎖炭化水
素基を導入することによりこの粘土は疎水状態に転換さ
れており、例えばオニウム化合物などの有機カチオン性
界面活性剤で予備処理を受けることにより行なわれる。
代表的なオニウム化合物は、塩化ジメチルジオクタデシ
ルアンモニウム、塩化ジメチルジベンジルアンモニウム
およびこれらの混合物などの塩化テトラアルキルアンモ
ニウムである。この転換方法は当業者に周知であり更な
る議論を必要としないと思われる。
本発明のグリース組成物の第三成分は燐成分と硫黄成分
である。これら両成分は、以下の式： （式中、Ｒ５は３ないし18個の炭素原子を含む炭化水素
基であり、Ｍは金属または非金属であり、ｎはＭの原子
価であり、Ｘは酸素または硫黄である）の金属または非
金属ホスホロジチオエート中などの同じ分子中に存在し
てもよい。
この化合物において、Ｒ５は好ましくはアルキル基であ
るが、プロピル、ブチル、ペンチル、ヘキシル、オクチ
ル、デシル、テトラデシルまたはオクタデシルの基であ
つてよく、イソプロパノール、ブタノール、イソブタノ
ール、第二ブタノール、４−メチル−２−ペンタノー
ル、２−エチルヘキサノール、オレイルアルコール、お
よびこれらの混合物から誘導されるものを含む。さら
に、ブチフエノール、オクチルフエノール、ノニルフエ
ノール、およびドデシルフエノールの基などのアルカリ
ール基を含む。Ｍが包含する金属は、周期律表第IA、II
A、IIBまたはVIII族の金属を含む。言及されることので
きるものは、リチウム、ナトリウム、カルシウム、亜
鉛、カドミウム、銀、および金である。非金属イオン
は、酢酸ビニルなどのビニルエステル、ブチルビニルエ
ーテルなどのビニルエーテル、およびプロピレン酸化物
および1,2−エポキシドデカンなどのエポキシドから誘
導される有機基を含む。
燐および硫黄はまた二つの別々の化合物の組合せから供
給することができ、例えば（１）各炭化水素に２ないし
10個の炭素原子を有するジヒドロカルビルホスフイツト
又はホスフイツト類の混合物および硫化イソブチレン、
二硫化ジベンジル、硫化テルペン、二硫化ホスホロジチ
オニルおよび硫化ジョジョバオイルなどの硫化物、の組
合せである。ホスフイツト類はジブチル、ジヘキシル、
ジオクチル、ジデシルおよび類似のホスフイツトを含
む。各炭化水素基に４ないし20個の炭素原子を含む燐酸
エステル、例えば燐酸トリブチル、燐酸ドリデシル、燐
酸トリクレジルおよびこのような燐酸塩の混合物も使用
できる。
要するに、非常に改良された満点を有するグリースを得
る本発明の実施において、前記全ての３成分を組成物中
に配合することが臨界的である。こうして： 第１に、グリースの製造に関して増粘剤は少なくとも約
15重量％の金属または非金属ヒドロキシル含有石けんを
含んでいなければならない。
第２に、グリースに0.01重量％ないし10重量％、好まし
くは0.1％ないし２％のｎ硼酸エステル化エポキシドを
添加しなければならない。ここでこの硼酸エステル化エ
ポキシドは少なくとも等モル量の硼素と反応している。
第３に、組成物は燐と硫黄とを含む化合物または燐成分
および硫黄成分を別々に供給する２以上の化合物の混合
物を0.01重量％ないし約10重量％、好ましくは0.2重量
％ないし２重量％含まなければならない。別々の化合物
を使用するときは、前記濃度水準に相当する量の混合物
を使用して等モル量の燐と硫黄を供給する。
一般に、本発明の反応生成物は、所望の程度の摩擦低
下、耐摩耗活性、耐酸化活性、高温安定性または耐錆活
性を付与するのに有効な量で使用することができる。し
かし、多くの応用において、硼酸エステル化エポキシド
および燐および／または硫黄含有化合物（複数）は組成
物全重量の0.02重量％あいし20重量％好ましくは0.2％
ないし４％組合せ量で効果的に使用できる。
本発明のグリースは鉱油または合成油、またはそれらの
混合物から作ることができる。一般に、鉱油、パラフイ
ン油およびナフテン油の両者およびそれらの混合物はあ
らゆる適当な潤滑粘度範囲であり、例えば100゜Ｆにお
いて45ないし6000SSU、および好ましくは210゜Ｆにおい
て50ないし250SSUである。これらの油は100またはそれ
以上の範囲粘度指数を有してもよい。70ないし95の粘度
指数が好ましい。これら油の平均分子量は250ないし800
の範囲であつてもよい。グリースを製造する際、グリー
スを製造する潤滑油は一般に、グリース配合物に含まれ
る所望量の増粘剤および他の添加成分を計量した後、全
グリース組成物を釣り合わせるに十分な量で用いる。
鉱油よりも合成油を所望する場合、この種の化合物を成
功裏に用いることができる。代表的な合成ビヒクルはポ
リイソブチレン、ポリブテン、水素化ポリデセン、ポリ
プロピレングリコール、ポリエチレングリコール、トリ
メチロールプロパンエステルネオペンチルおよびペンタ
エリトリトールエステル、ジ（２−エチルヘキシル）セ
バケート、ジ（２−エチルヘキシル）アジペート、ジブ
チルフタレート、フルオロカーボン、シリケートエステ
ル、シラン、燐含有酸のエステル、液状尿素、フエロセ
ン誘導体、水素化合成油、鎖状ポリフエニル、シロキサ
ンおよびシリコーン（ポリシロキサン）、アルキル置換
ジフエニルエーテル例えばブチル置換ビス（ｐ−フエノ
キシフエニル）エーテルおよびフエノキシフエニルエー
テルを含む。
調製例１ 硼酸エステル化1,2−エポキシヘキサデカン 約1440gの1,2−エポキシヘキサデカン（ユニオンカーバ
イド社から商業的に入手）、500gのトルエンおよび500g
の硼酸を加熱撹拌機と凝縮器付デーンスターク管とを備
えた５リツトルのガラス反応器に装填した。水分の発生
が止むまで撹拌しながら内容物を144℃まで加熱した。
これは約10時間を要した。約160℃で真空蒸留して溶媒
を除き、および約120℃で珪藻土を通して生成物を過
して冷却すると琥珀ワツクス状流体として清澄な琥珀流
体を得た。
調製例２ 密封接触器中で約177℃および約100psigの最終圧力で鉱
油ビヒクル（約76％）中で水酸化リチウム１水和物（2.
5％）により12−ヒドロキシステアリン酸（８％）とグ
リセリド（９％）とをけん化することにより、リチウム
ヒドロキシステアリン酸塩グリース増粘剤を製造した。
全てのパーセントは増粘剤全重量のパーセントである。
実施例１ 開放がま中で増粘剤を脱水した後、1.4重量％の硼素エ
ステルをグリース濃縮物中に加えた。1440gの1,2−エポ
キシ−ヘキサデカン、500gのトルエンおよび500gの硼酸
を加熱器、撹拌機、および凝縮器付デーンスターク管を
備えたガラス反応器に入れて硼素含有エステルを製造し
た。共沸蒸留の結果として水分の発生が止むまで反応混
合物を144℃まで加熱した。真空蒸留により溶媒を除去
し、粗硼酸エステルを珪藻土で過して冷却後ワツクス
状となる清澄な琥珀流体を形成した。
前記硼素添加剤をグリース濃縮物増粘剤中に導入した
後、適度の加熱を与え次いで十分の油を添加して増粘剤
含量を約9.0％におよびその結果硼素添加剤含量を１％
に減少させた。得られるグリースの硼素含量は約0.04重
量％であつた。99℃に冷却後、ジアルキル基がＣ３第二
およびＣ６第一アルコールの混合物から誘導されたもの
である亜鉛ジアルキルフオスフオロジチオエートを含む
耐酸化剤、耐錆剤、極圧剤および耐摩耗剤の各添加剤を
グリースに入れた。ASTMD2265−78グリース滴点試験で
得られる結果を以下の表に示す： 硼酸エステル化エポキシドのない脱水増粘剤の滴点は19
9℃であつた。1.4重量％の硼酸エステル化エポキシドを
増粘剤に添加すると滴点が257℃に増加した。通常のグ
リース添加剤パケージを添加して最終グリースを得た
後、滴点はさらに307℃に上昇した。金属ジチオホスフ
エートを含むが硼酸エステル化エポキシドを含まない同
様の十分に配合した最終グリースの滴点は193℃であつ
た。

Claims (15)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】（１）主要量のグリースおよび増粘剤であ
    って、該増粘剤は全増粘剤の重量を基準として少なくと
    も15重量％の水酸基含有石けん増粘剤を含んで成り； （２）以下の式： （式中、Ｒ、Ｒ１、Ｒ２およびＲ３は、水素又は炭素原
    子数８ないし30の炭化水素基であり、これらのうち少な
    くとも１つは炭化水素基である）のエポキシドを、硼
    酸、硼酸酸化物、および以下の式： （Ｒ４Ｏ）xB（OH）ｙ （式中、ｘは１ないし３であり、ｙは０ないし２であ
    り、それらの合計は３であり、およびＲ４は炭素原子数
    １ないし６個を有するアルキル基である）の硼酸アルキ
    ルから選ばれる硼素化合物の少なくともモル量と反応さ
    せることにより作られる、全組成物の重量を基準とし
    て、0.01重量％ないし10重量％の反応生成物；並びに （３）全組成物の重量を基準として0.01重量％ないし10
    重量％の燐と硫黄の化合物、または燐含有化合物と硫黄
    含有化合物との混合物であって、 該燐と硫黄の化合物は、以下の式： （式中、Ｒ５は炭素原子数３ないし18個を含む炭化水素
    基であり、Ｍは金属または非金属であり、ｎはＭの原子
    価であり、およびＸは酸素または硫黄である）のホスホ
    ロチオ酸塩であり； 該燐含有化合物と硫黄含有化合物との混合物は、 （ｉ）各炭化水素基に炭素原子２ないし６個を有するジ
    ヒドロカルビルホスフィット、この種のホスフィットの
    混合物、または各炭化水素基に４ないし20個の炭素原子
    を有する燐酸エステル、および （ii）硫化イソブチレン、二硫化ジベンジル、硫化テル
    ペン、二硫化ホスホロジチオニルおよび硫化ジョジョ油
    から選ばれる硫化物、 の組合せ物である； から主としてなる、グリース組成物。
  2. 【請求項２】増粘剤は、ヒドロキシを含有し炭素原子数
    が12ないし30の脂肪酸のアルカリ金属石けんまたはアル
    カリ土類金属石けん、脂肪族グリセリドまたは脂肪酸エ
    ステルである、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の組成物。
  3. 【請求項３】金属がナトリウム、リチウム、カルシウム
    またはバリウムである、特許請求の範囲第２項に記載の
    組成物。
  4. 【請求項４】増粘剤が12−ヒドロキシステアリン酸から
    誘導される、特許請求の範囲第２項に記載の組成物。
  5. 【請求項５】エポキシドは、1,2−エポキシオクタン、
    1,2−エポキシデカン、1,2−エポキシドデカン、1,2−
    エポキシテトラデカン、1,2−エポキシペンタデカン、
    1,2−エポキシヘキサデカン、1,2−エポキシオクタデカ
    ン、1,2−エポキシエイコサン、Ｃ２ ２ないしＣ３ ０オ
    レフィンの混合物のエポキシド、Ｃ２ ４ないしＣ２ ８オ
    レフィンの混合物のエポキシド、デセントリマーからの
    エポキシド、またはオクテンのダイマー；デセンのダイ
    マー；あるいは混合オクテンとデセンとのダイマー；か
    らのエポキシドである、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の
    組成物。
  6. 【請求項６】Ｒ５はアルキル基である、特許請求の範囲
    第１項に記載の組成物。
  7. 【請求項７】Ｒ５はプロピル、ブチル、ペンチル、ヘキ
    シル、オクチル、ドデシル、テトラデシル、オコタデシ
    ルまたはオレイルの基あるいはそれらの混合物である、
    特許請求の範囲第６項に記載の組成物。
  8. 【請求項８】Ｒ５は、イソプロパノール、ブタノール、
    イソブタノール、第二ブタノール、４−メチル−２−ペ
    ンタノール、２−エチルヘキサノールまたはこれらの混
    合物である、特許請求の範囲第７項に記載の組成物。
  9. 【請求項９】Ｍは、周期律表第IA、IIA、IIBまたはVIII
    族からの金属である、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の組
    成物。
  10. 【請求項１０】金属は、リチウム、ナトリウム、カルシ
    ウム、亜鉛、カドミウムまたは金である、特許請求の範
    囲第９項に記載の組成物。
  11. 【請求項１１】Ｍはビニルアセテート、ブチルビニルエ
    ーテル、プロピレンオキサイドまたは1,2−エポキシド
    デカンから誘導される、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の
    組成物。
  12. 【請求項１２】ホスフィットは、ジブチル、ジヘキシ
    ル、ジオクチルまたはジデシルのホスフィットまたはこ
    れらの混合物である、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の組
    成物。
  13. 【請求項１３】燐酸エステルは、トリブチル、トリデシ
    ルまたはトリクレジルの燐酸エステルあるいはこれらの
    混合物である、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載の組成物。
  14. 【請求項１４】エポキシドは1,2−エポキシヘキサデカ
    ンであり、硼素化合物は硼酸であり、および燐と硫黄と
    の化合物は亜鉛ジアルキルホスフォロジチオエートであ
    り、ここにおいてこのアルキル基はＣ３第二アルコール
    とＣ６第一アルコールの混合物から誘導される、特許請
    求の範囲第１項に記載の組成物。
  15. 【請求項１５】グリースのビヒクルは鉱油、合成油また
    はこれらの混合物である、特許請求の範囲第１項に記載
    の組成物。
