る。As a result of the issuance of new circulation banknotes on November 1, 1984, after that, each financial institution has installed an automated teller machine that can use both old and new banknotes. Since the Bank of Japan is exchanging old bills for new bills, the new bills will occupy the majority in a few years, and as a result, the automated teller machine will also
Some years later, it seems that only new bills will appear. That is, since the new bill is smaller in manufacturing, the bill discriminating performance is improved and the device can be downsized when the new bill dedicated device is used. However, even if many years pass, old bills are also circulating bills, and therefore old bills may be mixed in bills. If an old bill having a size larger than that of the new bill is taken into the device dedicated to the new bill, there is a possibility that a jam occurs in the transport path or the bill is damaged.

The yen bills and the new thousand yen bills are becoming smaller in this order. Further, in the dimension in the widthwise direction, the old 10,000 yen bill, the old 5,000 yen bill, and the remaining all denominations of tickets have become smaller in this order. That is, as is apparent from FIG. 6, the new bill has the same dimension in all the denominations in the lateral direction, and has the same dimension as the old 1,000-yen bill. Therefore, the transport path width W 1 of the transport path 12 in FIG. 4 is set in accordance with the old ten thousand yen bill having the largest longitudinal dimension.

While memorizing, optically detect the watermark pattern on the line divided into 1 mm each from the center to the left and right,
It also stores those detection signals. FIGS. 10 to 13 show collation patterns in which a watermark portion having misalignment is detected by the authenticity detection sensor 13, and FIGS.
The pattern signals of the cuts F and R in the figure are shown, and FIGS. 11 and 13 are the pattern signals of the cuts A and Y in FIG. 8, and the amplitude of the pattern signal becomes smaller as it shifts from the center to both sides.

The watermark pattern of each of these lines is optically detected, and the detection signal is stored. For example, in FIG. 9, the vertical axis represents the amplitude of the pattern detection signal, that is, the output signal amount, and the horizontal axis represents the time t from the start time. In reality, since the bill 11 is detected while traveling at a constant speed, the time on the horizontal axis corresponds to the position of the bill 11 in the lateral direction.
In addition, FIG. 10 shows that from the center of the watermark portion 14 of the bill 11
The detection signal of the watermark pattern at the position displaced by mm position (position of F line in FIG. 8) is shown in FIG. 11 which is displaced by 17 mm further left from the F line of FIG. 8 (A line of FIG. 8). Position) is a detection signal of the watermark pattern, and FIGS. 12 and 13 are detection signals of the watermark pattern at positions displaced by 17 mm to the right in the opposite direction to FIGS. 10 and 11, respectively ( R in Figure 8,
Y line position).

が重要な事項となる。As is clear from FIGS. 9 to 13, the detected signal pattern at the center of the waveform, that is, the watermark portrait portion of FIG. The larger the displacement amount, the smaller the waveform shape and the more unclear. Therefore, the larger the lateral displacement of the conveyed banknotes 11 during conveyance, the worse the performance of the banknotes 11 for determining the authenticity and denomination, the risk of misjudgment, and the failure of the banknote discrimination function. That is, in the automatic cash handling apparatus, it is an important matter to reduce the amount of lateral deviation during transportation.

A watermark pattern for checking the amount of positional deviation between the road and the left and right is stored. In other words, the new 1,000-yen bill with the smallest longitudinal dimension is transported to the transport path that matches the width of the old 10,000-yen bill. In this case, the width of the transport path is determined according to the least frequently used bill, and the most frequently used bill has the largest misregistration. In this case, the amount of misalignment of the New Thousand Yen bill is
W 1 )-(longitudinal dimension of new 1000 yen bill) = 184-150 = 34 mm. If the positions are left and right evenly, the left and right positions will be displaced by 17 mm. And, in this case, too, so that it can be matched by the watermark pattern,
If the watermark pattern at the position cut at every 1 mm of misalignment is detected and stored in advance, for example, it is necessary to store 34 kinds of signal patterns only by collating new 1,000 yen bills.

As shown in FIG. 14, the frame of the watermark portion of the banknote 11b is passed with the frame displaced. In this case, since the range in which the pattern can be detected exceeds the range, it is impossible to determine the watermark pattern.

It is possible to use ATM. However, if a depositor who does not know that it is an ATM that does not handle old bills accidentally inserts the old bill into the banknote deposit / withdrawal port, the banknote will be jammed due to the small conveyance path, causing jams. Alternatively, the bill may collide with the guides on the left and right of the transport path or the wall surface of the safe, and the bill may be damaged.

16469), the outer dimensions are measured by optically detecting both edges of the bill to be discriminated, the comparison information between the reflection pattern and the reference pattern of the bill to be discriminated is obtained, and the logic of the dimension information and the pattern comparison information is obtained. How to determine the product (for example,
55-107681 gazette), when a bill is inserted, the pressing plate for pressing and pushing the bill is set to an inactive position to facilitate the insertion of the bill, and when the bill is taken in, the pressing plate is pushed and biased. To ensure capture (Japanese Patent Publication No. 56-
No. 50299 gazette), a storage box that collectively receives the inserted banknotes, a unit that takes in the banknotes one by one for post-processing, and a part of the storage box that forms the banknotes when the banknotes are taken in. ATM equipped with a back-up plate to be pressed against the take-in means (for example, see Japanese Utility Model Laid-Open No. 57-34053),
It is possible to insert all the banknotes to be deposited and all the banknotes to be deposited at once, and only the correct banknotes from the banknotes that have been deposited will be taken in as deposits, and the fraudulent or suspicious banknotes and the stacked banknotes will be returned to the entrance. There are known methods such as reinjection (see Japanese Utility Model Publication No. 55-31636). However, regarding the above-mentioned problems of old tickets and new tickets,
No consideration whatsoever.

An optical sensor for detecting the short dimension of the bill 11 in the bill slot 1.
By providing 24, by detecting whether or not the upper end of the deposited banknote bundle 11a is projected longer than a specified length, a banknote with a large longitudinal dimension of banknotes, for example, an old 10,000-yen note, an old 5,000-yen note, is a depositor. Even if it is thrown in by mistaken insertion, it is possible to detect this and return it to the depositor. There is no danger of entering a department or various safes and causing an accident such as a jam.

The a is vertically held by a bill holding plate 22 provided at the back of the bill deposit / withdrawal port 1, and the misalignment is corrected by the vibration of the vibration vibrating table mechanism portion 21 at the bottom. Then, the optical sensor 24 provided inside the banknote deposit / withdrawal port 1 detects whether or not the banknote bundle 11a has a height dimension (banknote lateral dimension) of 77 mm or more. If there are old ten thousand yen bills and old five thousand yen bills with long bill lengths in the bill bundle 11a, as shown in FIG. 6, the short dimension of each bill is 84 mm, 80 mm and their presence is detected by the optical sensor 24.
If a size shorter than 77 mm is detected, the ATM8
On the display section 5 provided at the top of a, the message "Old 10,000 yen bills and old 5,000 yen bills are mixed, please remove and insert again" is displayed. Looking at the display, the depositor is 77 mm
If you remove the above banknotes and deposit them again, the optical sensor 24
After confirming that the banknotes of 77 mm or more are not included in the banknote bundle 11a, the banknote bundles 11a are fed into the transport path 23 one by one. The banknotes 11 conveyed one by one enter the banknote discrimination section 2a, and the watermark pattern detection sensor 13 shown in FIG.
Thus, the comparison with the watermark pattern stored in advance is performed, and thereby the denomination and the authenticity are determined. When the determination operation is completed, the bill validator 2a sends the bill to the temporary deposit safe 4. At the same time that all the banknote bundles 11a are stored in the temporary deposit safe 4, the display section 5 displays the discriminative amount of deposit, and after the depositor confirms this, the temporary deposit safe 4 to each safe deposit type A to D. It is sent to 6 and stored. On the other hand, as a result of the authenticity being discriminated by the watermark pattern detection sensor 13 in the bill discriminating unit 2a, the bills judged to be defective bills are once transferred from the bill discriminating unit 2a to the safe deposit box 3, and then the bill deposit / withdrawal is performed. Returned to mouth 1 and returned to the depositor.

As shown in Fig. 6, the banknotes are also the first and second longest banknotes of all denominations (174 mm and 169 mm, respectively). As described above, due to the detection of the optical sensor 24, the old 10,000-yen bill and the old 5,000-yen bill are not conveyed in the conveyance path and the bill discriminating unit 2a. Therefore, the width W 3 of the transport path is 164 mm for the old 1,000-yen bill, 159 mm for the new 10,000-yen bill, and 154 mm for the new 5,000-yen bill, for example, the maximum value of the longitudinal dimension of the handling bills is 164 mm. It is recommended to set it to 174 mm, which is the sum of the meandering amount of 10 mm due to the transportation of. When a new 1000 yen bill with the smallest denomination to be handled is transported to this transport path, the permissible meandering amount is a value obtained by subtracting the length of the new 1000 yen bill from the transport path width W 3 ,
That is, 174-150 = 24 [mm]. If the left and right displacement amounts are the same, there will be a 12 mm displacement on one side.

In advance, a watermark pattern is stored in advance for each 1 mm deviation in the range where the position deviation of the bill is 12 mm left and right. In this case, the number of watermark patterns that can be stored is only 24 for the New Thousand Yen bills. This is the discrimination unit 2 of the conventional device.
Compared to the 34 types of memory for a new 1,000-yen bill with a width of 184 mm, it can be reduced by 10.

The accuracy of true / false discrimination is improved.
Since the number of types of pattern waveforms to be stored may be small, the storage capacity can be small, and the processing speed for true / false determination can be increased. Also, since the old 10,000-yen bill and the old 5,000-yen bill are not taken into the transport path, it is possible to reduce the width of the transport path.
It is possible to reduce the size and cost of the device. Furthermore, since the size of the banknotes taken in is small, the inside size of various safes in the apparatus can also be made small.

Further, although the watermark pattern detection sensor 13 is provided in the bill discriminating unit 2a, the same effect can be obtained by using a sensor that optically or magnetically detects the amount of printing ink. Further, in the example, the height dimension detection amount of the bill is 77 mm, but the same effect is obtained when the dimension is from the short dimension of the new 10,000 yen bill to the short dimension of the old 5000 yen bill. Is obtained. In addition, a sensor for detecting the height dimension of the bill is used as the bill deposit / withdrawal port 1
However, a plurality of pairs may be provided.

The size of the device is small and the size of the transport path, the discriminating section, and various safes can be reduced, as well as the number of types and types can be reduced, the time required to distinguish between authenticity and denomination can be shortened, and the memory capacity can be reduced. And cost reduction can be realized.
