Since "black" is input as "00", the output of the D / A converter 602 changes like Di in FIG. On the other hand, the triangular wave is similar to WV1 in (a) and WV2 in (b), so the output of CMP1 and CMP2 becomes narrower as they move from “black” to “white” like PW1 and PW2, respectively. I'm becoming. Also, as is clear from the figure, when PW1 is selected, the dots on the print paper are formed at the intervals of P 1 → P 2 → P 3 → P 4 , and the pulse width change amount has the dynamic range of W1. On the other hand, if you select PW2 dots are formed at intervals of P 5 → P 6, the dynamic range of the pulse width is W2 becomes PW1
Compared with each other, it is three times. Incidentally, for example, the print density (resolution) is set to about 400 lines / inch for PW1, and about 133 lines for PW2. Also, as is clear from the above, when PW1 is selected, the resolution is improved about 3 times compared to when PW2 is selected, while when PW2 is selected, the pulse width dynamic range is about 3 times wider than PW1. Therefore, the gradation is remarkably improved. Therefore, for example, when high resolution is required, PW1 is selected, and when high gradation is required, PW2 is selected by SCRSEL704 from an external circuit. That is, 612 in the figure (A) is a selector, and when SCRSEL704 is "0", A input selection, that is, P
When W1 is "1", PW2 is output from the output terminal, the laser is turned on for the finally obtained pulse width, and the dots are printed. LUT601 but is a table conversion ROM for gradation correction, K 0, K 1, K 2, 714 of the table switching signal 712 to the address, 715 video signals are input, VIDEO DATA is obtained which is corrected by the output To be For example SCRS to select PW1
When EL704 is set to "0", all output of ternary counter 603 is "0"
Next, the correction table for PW1 in 601 is selected. Further, S 0 and S 1 are switched according to the output color signal. For example, when K 0 , K 1 and K 2 = “0,0,0”, yellow output, “0,1,
When "0", magenta output, when "1,0,0", cyan output, "1,1,"
When it is 0 ", black is output. This is due to the difference in gradation characteristics due to the difference in image reproduction characteristics due to the color of the laser beam printer. Also, a wider range of gradations can be obtained by combining K 2 and K 0 , K 1 . It is possible to correct it. For example, it is also possible to switch the gradation conversion characteristics of each color according to the type of input image. Next, in order to select PW2, set SCRSEL to "1" and the ternary The counter counts the line synchronization signal and LUTs “1” → “2” → “3” → “1” → “2” → “3” → ……
Output to address 714. Thereby, the gradation correction table is switched for each line to further improve the gradation.

It is desirable that A is in the gradation correction table.
B, which is the inverse characteristic of B, is set. The same figure (B) shows PW2
Are the gradation correction characteristics A, B, C for each line when is selected, and the pulse width in the main scanning direction (laser scan direction) is varied with the triangular wave described above, and at the same time the figure is displayed in the sub-scanning direction (image feed direction). As described above, the gradation characteristics are further improved by giving gradation of three stages. That is, the characteristic A becomes dominant in the portion where the density change is sharp, the sharp reproducibility is reproduced, the smooth gradation is reproduced by the characteristic C, and the gradation B is effective for the middle portion. Therefore, even when PW1 is selected as described above, a high resolution is guaranteed to some extent, and when PW2 is selected, extremely excellent gradation is guaranteed. Further, regarding the above-mentioned pulse width, for example, in the case of PW2, the pulse width W is ideally 0 ≦ W ≦ W2, but due to the electrophotographic characteristics of the laser beam printer and the response characteristics of the laser drive circuit, a certain width There is a region in which dots are not printed (no response) with a shorter pulse width (Fig. 17) 0 ≤ W ≤ wp, and a region in which the density is saturated, Fig. 17 wq ≤ W ≤ W2. Therefore, the pulse width and the density are set so that the pulse width changes within the linear effective region wp ≦ W ≦ wq. That is, as shown in FIG. 17 (B), when the input data changes from 0 (black) to FF H (white), the pulse width changes from wp to wq, further guaranteeing the linearity between the input data and the density. .

Since the rotation is performed at a constant speed, the planar images are successively exposed to form latent images. From the uniform charging by the charger 17 prior to this exposure → the above-mentioned exposure → and the toner development by the developing sleeve 31, a toner development is formed. 手続きについて説明する。8 (B) -1, 2, and 3 show the relationship of the positions recorded on the recording paper of the printer, which can be considered in association with FIG. 8 (A). In FIG. 8 (B) -1, the shaded portion on the circumference of the transfer drum 16 is an actuator plate 19 which generates a signal indicating the leading edge of the paper, and from the point where the sensor S detects the leading edge of the recording paper, When rotated by the distance (l + h), the toner image on the photosensitive drum is transferred to the recording paper. That is, during normal copying, when the reading unit of the reader is started from the home position A from the rising edge of the signal S, the signal when the leading edge of the document at the position of the distance T is read is just PH of the photosensitive drum. Modulates the laser light that hits a point. Therefore, at this time, the leading edge of the recording paper 91 is (B) -2.
As shown in the figure, since it is a distance h before the transfer point Tr,
The image of the leading edge T of the document is formed on the leading edge of the recording paper 91. By the way, next, (x 1 , y 1 ) (x 2 , y 2 ) on the platen in Fig. (C)
The procedure in the sub-scanning direction when reading only the part a in the area (a) and moving it to the position (x 3 , y 3 ) (x 4 , y 4 ) on the recording paper will be described.

That is, the reading operation is performed by moving the reading start position x 1 in the sub-scanning direction to the front by 1 and reading the point B as a reference. That is, the distance between the reading start position and the home position at that time is always maintained at l. On the other hand, if the writing start position on the recording paper, that is, the position after the movement, is a point at a distance x 3 from the leading edge of the paper, it is sufficient to delay from S from the printer by a distance n2 and start from the reading home position B described above. Recognize. That is, as a result, the image read from x 1 on the platen is recorded on the recording paper at a position x 3 from the front edge of the paper (distance n 2 in FIG. 3B-3) and moves in the sub-scanning direction. It has been done. In this embodiment, a stepping motor is used to drive the scanning of the reading unit, and the number of pulses used to drive the stepping motor and the driving distance correspond to 1: 1. That is, since the distance can be defined by the number of pulses given to the drive regardless of the scanning speed, in other words, the scaling factor, all the distances described above are values converted into the pulses used for driving the stepping motor.
Therefore, even if the scaling ratio changes and the scanning speed changes, the value to be set is not influenced by it, and the control becomes simple.

相当)。Here, Vreg1 and Vreg2 are internal register counters of the CPU 69, and since the stepping motor drive pulse (Fig. 236 in Fig. 2) is input to this counter input, the pulses corresponding to the values set in S7 and S8 are generated. When input, an interrupt occurs internally and INT1 (S28 to S2 for Vreg1 = 0)

After that, the yellow output signals S 0 , S 1 , S 2 = 000, which is the first output color, are output (S9),
The selection signal SCRSEL = 1 of the above-described high gradation image quality sent to the PWM circuit (S10), the main scanning direction of the image effective interval control signals described above (RVENABLE, PVENABLE, laser control signal) in order to set the M 0 M 1 M 2 = Set 110 and start the printer (S11). In S13, a lamp lighting signal 241 for original exposure scanning is sent, the lamp 7 is lit, and the paper leading edge signal S (FIG. 10 (B)) from the printer is waited for. S14 ′ V
Since reg3 is an internal counter that counts HSYNC and has been set to 0 by S8 ', it exits to S15 at the same time as S and advances the skimmer motor for driving the leader. INT1 and INT2 are sequentially applied at the points of x 1 and x 2 in the forward movement, and the laser lighting in the sub-scanning direction is controlled here. The motor moves backward in S17, and stops in the home position in S18 and S19. Here, since the same number of pulses as the stepping motor driving pulse number required for the forward movement is given to move backward, the home position sensor is unnecessary. S20

Do not output. As a result, a multicolor high-gradation image can be obtained in the designated region and a multicolor high-resolution image can be obtained outside the designated region. This is very effective for copying a document in which a halftone image and a character line drawing are mixed. Although the designated area was designated as multicolor high gradation,
It is also possible to set the designated area to a high resolution of a single color and the outside of the area to a high gradation of multiple colors by the operation unit 67. Further, it is of course possible to provide a plurality of designated areas and arbitrarily designate a multicolor high gradation and a single color high resolution for each designated area.

Therefore, in the designated area for yellow, magenta, cyan and black, as in the sequence described above with reference to FIG. Output a multicolor high gradation image. So from S42 to S48
SET4 = y 4, SET5 = except that excisional movement values and y 3 are the same as the view the 7 (A). In S49 and S49 ', scaling ==
Set x 2 −x 1 / x 4 −x 3 | = α. Since the scaling ratio in the sub-scanning direction is realized by changing the speed of the stepping motor, in other words, the frequency of the drive pulse, the scaling ratio α is set by the scaling mode signal to the stepping motor driver 61. Then, the speed of the driven motor changes. As described above, SET8 = α in S49 'is the scaling factor in the main scanning direction, which causes scaling in the main scanning direction. In the case of this example, the magnification is set to be the same as that in the sub-scanning direction, but different values may be set. Next, the home position is moved to point B (see FIG. 9). The output image is output from the position x 3 from the leading edge of the recording paper, so the scanning start of the reader is 1 + x 3 from SP1 of the printer.
It is realized by delaying only, this is V58 in S58 = 0
Is indicated at the start of the reader scanning.
Select yellow, the first color in S52, and SCRSEL = in S53
Since the steps from setting to 1 to stopping at S63 and subsequent steps at S64, S65 and S66 are the same as those described with reference to FIG. After S67, a sequence for outputting a high resolution image of a single color except the designated area b of the second original of the character line image placed between ΔS and ΔU in FIG. 8C is shown. There is. In S66 ', the home position is moved to the front position ΔC by the run-up distance l with respect to the document reading position ΔS, and in S66 ″, the scaling ratio is set to equal magnification, that is, α = 1,
To set the scanning run-up distance 1 to Vreg3 (S67) and S68 so that the laser light can be turned on in the entire main scanning direction (M 0 , M 1 ,
M 2 ) = (0,0,0), and in S69, the achromatic color density signal ND synthesized from the color-separated three-color signals is selected.
Outputs S 0 , S 1 , S 2 = 100. Vreg1 = l Vreg2 = l + n3 is laser lighting control in the sub-scanning direction as described above (S70, S71)
Immediately after the printer image signal SP1 is detected by (S72)
Since Vreg3 = 0, the scan motor starts forward scanning. At the same time, with LOFF = 1, the laser can be turned on (S76) M 0 M 1 M 2 = 001 at the position in the sub scanning direction x 1.
In order to blank the designated area, the laser control signal is selected as shown by e in FIG. 7 (A) -3 (S78). In this way, white is drawn to the position of x 2 (S7
9), in S80, the entire area is output again, and in S81, the forward skiing ends. Thereafter, the same operation as S61 to S63 is performed, and this sequence is ended. By the above operation, it is understood that the designated area on the first page can be scaled and moved to another designated area with multicolor high gradation, and the outside of the designated area can be combined and output with a single color high resolution.
In the above example, only one of the scaling and movement was performed, but both can be freely moved and scaled independently, and the order of the colors and the selection of the colors can be freely performed. Variable magnification is possible. Also for gradation correction, by selecting K 0 , K 1 , and K 2 , it is possible to output the designated area to be moved and other areas with different gradation correction characteristics.

Since the pulse width of the pulse width modulation signal is set to be gradually increased in accordance with the increase in the level of, the effective lighting time of the beam can be changed with respect to the low level region of the input color image signal, and the gradation can be adjusted. It is possible to obtain a reproduced image having excellent properties. That is, even if the level of the color image signal is the minimum value, by setting the predetermined width,
It is possible to prevent the gradation property in the low density region from being impaired during recording.
