すいて、古紙といわれる紙に再生するしか方法がなかっ
た。しかし、最近、一度使用した紙の上の文字画像をク
リーニングにより取り去り、複写あるいはプリンティン
グに再利用することができる方法が開発された。例え
ば、このような方法として、本出願人は、トナー像を加
熱することでガラス転移点以上に達した時点で溶融軟化
したトナーを冷却して固化させ、トナー間の凝集力を高
い状態にしてトナーの分裂を生じることなく画像支持体
から剥離することを特徴とするトナー剥離方法およびそ
の装置を提案している(特開平4−333088号公
報)。しかし、前記方法では、画像支持体より臨界表面
張力のより小さいオフセットローラにトナー像を転移さ
せる原理を用いているが、画像支持体から耐熱シートを
分離させる場合に、画像支持体がOHPフィルムのよう
な場合、該フィルムは十分な強度があるので問題はない
が、画像支持体が紙である場合、強度が不足して紙その
ものが破れたり、極端に薄くなったりする。さらに本出
願人は、機械的にトナー像を紙から削り取る方法を提案
している。しかしこの方法によると、紙面上のトナー像
の高さは通常10〜16μmと小さく、かつ紙の厚さは
通常70〜110μmと薄く、かつ腰および剛性も小さ
いので、機械的にトナー像を紙から削り取る方法では、

するトナー像の定着力を低下させる手段としては、例え

ナー像と画像支持体との接着面積を小さくし、両者を剥
離し易くすることができる。また、トナー像を加熱、溶
融した状態下に画像支持体の上方からの吸引、画像支持
体の裏面からの流体の付与、またはこれら両者を組合せ
た処理手段を採用することより、トナー像を画像支持体
面より上方に、さらに剥離しやすい形で隆起させること
ができる。前記紙面から付与する流体としては、空気流
が好ましいが、これに限定されるものではない。特にこ
のような流体として熱流体を使用することにより、トナ
ー像があらかじめ溶融状態になくても、トナー像の溶融
と該トナー像の隆起を同時に行うことができる(図5参
照)。この場合に熱流体の温度は、80℃以上が好まし
い。さらに、トナー像を加熱溶融させたものは+に帯電
することを利用して、電場もしくは磁場をかけることに
より、前記の吸引あるいは熱流の付与の場合と同様に溶
融したトナー像に外力を与えることができ、同様にトナ
ー像を剥離し易い形で隆起させることができる(図4参
照)。図4に示す場合は、重力に逆らってトナー像を隆
起させているが、トナー面を下方に向くようにして処理
すると、電場もしくは磁場に加えて重力も手伝ってさら
に容易に剥離を行うことができる形に隆起させることが
