Brake friction materials that use semi-metallic materials, which are formed by molding metal fibers such as steel fibers and sponge irons and metal powders using a thermosetting resin such as phenol resin as a binder, are widely used. However, it is hard to say that the fade characteristics are sufficient.

On the other hand, a carbon fiber reinforced carbonaceous material composite material (hereinafter simply abbreviated as C / C component) is expected to have excellent fade characteristics when it is used as a friction material, but C / C component is expensive. Therefore, a friction material consisting only of C / C components is not practical.

本発明はこの問題に対応してなされたものである。The present invention has been made to address this problem.

The gist of the present invention resides in a brake friction material characterized in that a friction material made of a semi-metallic material and a friction material made of a carbon fiber reinforced carbonaceous material composite material are arranged in abutment on the back metal. As a result, the intended purpose is set.

The C / C component referred to in the present invention is, for example, a polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber, a pitch-based carbon fiber or the like as a reinforcing fiber, and a pitch, which is formed by hot pressing with a phenol resin initial condensate as a binder, 200 to 700 ° C. After the primary calcination at the temperature of 1, the impregnation of the pitch and the calcination operation are repeated 3 to 5 times to increase the strength of the material, and finally the product is heat-treated at a temperature of 1500 ° C. or higher to be commercialized.

This C / C component uses this as a friction material,
Although it has excellent heat resistance, it has a drawback that it has a limit to satisfy the friction performance and the mechanical strength is not sufficient.

Therefore, the present applicant has previously provided a friction material with greatly improved friction performance by infiltrating 3 to 10 vol% of a low melting point metal or alloy into the pores of a C / C component.

Therefore, the C / C component used in the present invention includes both those infiltrated with a low melting point metal (alloy) and those not infiltrated.

In the present invention, the method of combining the friction material of the semi-metallic material and the friction material of the C / C component material is not particularly limited, but usually one of the left and right parts is a semi-metallic material and the other part is C / C It can be fixed by abutting on the back metal as a component material.

In the case of a large-sized product, it is advantageous to attach a semi-metallic material on both sides and set a C / C comp material, which is advantageous in heat resistance and fade resistance, in the middle to form a three-piece combination.

As shown by the solid line (A) in FIG. 1, the fade characteristics of the brake friction material obtained by combining the semi-metallic friction material and the C / C component friction material of the present invention are better than those of the semi-metallic friction material alone. Fade characteristics of dotted line [dotted line (B)]
The improvement effect was remarkable as compared with. Further, as is clear from the comparison with the fade characteristics [dotted line (C)] of the C / C component made of a friction material alone, it is recognized that the fade resistance of the C / C component is effectively used.
Further, since the present inventor can combine expensive C / C component materials so that they can be used in a small size, it is possible to provide a brake friction material that is relatively inexpensive and can satisfy heat resistance and fade resistance, and is of great industrial value. There is.
