DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Industrial field of application) The present invention relates to N-alkoxymethylacrylamide or N-alkoxymethylmethacrylamide (which is useful as a crosslinkable monomer, which is particularly used in the production of coating resins. Hereinafter, these are simply referred to as “N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide”).

(Prior Art and Its Problems) N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide is a solution of acrylamide or methacrylamide (hereinafter simply referred to as “(meth) acrylamide”) in alcohol under formaldehyde under alkaline conditions. It can be obtained by reacting to form a methylol derivative, and then carrying out an etherification reaction under acidic conditions without isolation (Japanese Patent Publication No. 38-23607). Such a reaction is based on a general methylolation reaction and etherification reaction, and is represented by the following reaction formula.

However, it has been widely confirmed that the reactions used for the production of N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamides inherently cause a large number of reactions other than the desired reaction, and several kinds actually occur. Among other possible reactions are:

The presence of these by-products and reaction intermediates has a great adverse effect on the quality of the coating resin produced using N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide. That is,
Water-soluble monomers such as (meth) acrylamide and methylol (meth) acrylamide reduce the water resistance of the resin. In addition, bifunctional monomers such as methylenebis (meth) acrylamide and di (meth) acrylamide dimethyl ether have the effect of significantly increasing the viscosity of the resin. As a method for obtaining high-quality N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide, a purification method by flash distillation or washing with water has been conventionally known. However, the former operation requires time and a product which inevitably lower efficiency in operation. In the latter case, a large amount of wastewater treatment and dehydration operation of the product are required, which significantly increases the manufacturing cost.

(Means for Solving the Problems) The inventors of the present invention have improved the drawbacks of the conventional techniques and have been able to economically produce high-quality N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide in a high yield without performing a purification operation. We researched diligently to find out the manufacturing method. As a result, the (meth) acrylamide was subjected to a methylolation reaction and then an etherification reaction, and the resulting alcoholic solution of N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide was distilled to remove the solvent in a pH range of 2 to 5 and concentrated. It was found that by doing so, high-quality N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide can be obtained virtually without any purification operation, and the present invention was completed.

In the method of the present invention, the methylolation reaction is used in a molar ratio of formaldehyde to (meth) acrylamide in the range of 1.0 to 1.5. If it is less than 1.0 or more than 1.5, excess side reactions of the raw materials occur, respectively, and impurities are generated, which is not preferable. The alcohol used is preferably 0.4 to 1.0 molar ratio with respect to (meth) acrylamide. It is more preferably 0.5 to 0.7 mol. If it is less than 0.4, crystals of (meth) acrylamide and paraformaldehyde are difficult to dissolve, and 1.
If you exceed 0, you will use a lot of alcohol,
Not economical and not desirable. The reaction temperature is preferably in the range of 40 to 60 ° C, and the pH of the reaction solution is in the range of 8.0 to 11.0, preferably 9.5 to 10.5. If the temperature and pH are too low, the reaction rate will be slow, and if too high, hydrolysis of (meth) acrylamide will occur, which is not preferable.

(Action and Effect of the Invention) As is clear from the examples, in the present invention, in the production of N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide, after reaction for a predetermined time, unreacted raw materials and intermediate products are converted into desired N- It is converted into alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide, and as a result, the high-quality N-alkoxymethyl (meth) acrylamide only by methylolation and etherification reaction can be omitted by omitting the conventional purification operation such as flash distillation or washing with water. Made possible. The method of the present invention is an excellent method which is extremely advantageous as an industrial manufacturing method.
