Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily generate a new file storing a partial copy of editing contents by writing partial data in the new file by generating the new file by storing partial data from a data under editing. CONSTITUTION:At the time of editing a document through the use of a document editing program stored in a storage device 2, with regard to a part of editing contents displayed on a display device 5, a user area-specifies a part to be copied in the new file from a display picture through the use of a key board 3 or a pointing input device 4. CPU 1 stores data of this area in the storage device 2. Next, an empty new file storing the area is prepared. Next, after confirming the storage of area data to the storage device 2, CPU 1 reads copying information from the storage device 2. Furthermore, CPU 1 writes copying information in the empty new file and the processing is finished.

In order to achieve the above object, a novel file creating method and apparatus of the present invention have the following configurations. That is, a storage process of storing partial data from the file being edited, a creation process of creating a new file, and a writing process of writing the partial data in the new file. In the above structure, partial data is stored from the file being edited, a new file is created, and the partial data is written in the new file. FIG. 2 is a block diagram showing the configuration of an information processing system to which the new file creating method of one embodiment of the present invention is applied. In step S4, the central processing unit 1 reads the copy information from the storage device 2.

In step S5, the central processing unit 1 writes the copy information in the empty new file and ends the process.

By automatically performing the above series of processes, a new file in which a copy of a part of the edited contents is stored can be easily generated.

The present invention may be applied to a system composed of a plurality of devices or an apparatus composed of a single device. Further, it goes without saying that the present invention can be applied to the case where it is achieved by supplying a program to a system or an apparatus.

As described above, according to this embodiment, the following effects can be obtained. That is, it is possible to easily generate a new file that stores a copy of a part of the edited content.
