Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the leaking out of the electrolyte of a used dry cell when the used dry cell is used together with new dry cells in a mixing state by connecting diodes in parallel with the dry cells connected in series with each other, with the (+) and (-) terminal sides of the diodes being respectively connected to the cathodes and anodes of the cells. CONSTITUTION: In the case where a used dry cell 3 is loaded by mistake together with new dry cells 1, 2, and 4, the cell 3 no longer has the ability of independently supplying electric power to a load and is forcedly discharged by the load currents supplied from the other cells 1, 2, and 4. At this time, the cell 3 is equivalently considered to be a resistor R3. The equivalent resistance value rapidly becomes larger as the forced discharge advances and the currents start to hardly flow. When the negative voltage generated across the terminals of the cell 3 becomes equal to the forward voltage of a diode 23 connected in parallel with the cell 3 due to the forced discharge, most of the load currents flow through the diode 23. Since the voltage across the terminals of the cell 3 thus becomes a constant negative voltage, no electrolysis takes place and leaking out of the electrolyte of the cell 3 can be prevented.

However, it is not easy for the user to completely eliminate the situation where the user inadvertently mixes old and new batteries when replacing the batteries. Also,
In particular, the batteries of game machines and toys are mainly replaced by children, and it is the reality that old and new batteries are often mixed. When a load is energized from a power source in which old and new batteries are mixed, a used battery will be forcibly discharged by the electromotive force of another new battery even after its capacity has already been consumed. Is done. For example, when only a part of a large number of dry batteries is a used dry battery, the output voltage of the power source as a whole is lower than the case where all the batteries are unused batteries, but the decrease rate is small. As a result, the device continues to operate sufficiently even at that voltage, and the user often continues to use the device without realizing that the old and new batteries are mixed. Usually, in a manganese dry battery, an aqueous solution in which manganese dioxide is used for the positive electrode, zinc is used for the negative electrode, and a neutral salt or an alkali salt is used for the electrolytic solution. In such a manganese battery, when the above-mentioned forced discharge occurs, hydrogen gas and oxygen gas may be generated inside the battery mainly due to electrolysis of water in the electrolytic solution. Therefore, if forced discharge is continued, in a used dry battery, hydrogen gas and oxygen gas fill the inside of the battery, and then leak to the outside through a gap or the like formed in the caulked portion of the container of the dry battery. With such gas leakage, the electrolyte solution in the battery also tends to leak. The leaked electrolyte contaminates the equipment and causes corrosion of the switch contacts. As a result, the device sometimes became unusable.

FIG. 2 is a connection diagram when the miniature electric bulb 90 is energized by the dry battery power supply device 100 configured as described above. In the figure, it is assumed that dry batteries 1, 2 and 4 are new unused batteries, and dry battery 3 is a used old battery. That is, the used dry battery 3 is accidentally loaded together with the unused dry batteries 1, 2 and 4. The dry battery 3 (used battery) is no longer capable of supplying power to the load by itself, and is forcibly discharged by the load current supplied from the other dry batteries 1, 2 and 4 (new battery).
At this time, the dry battery 3 merely functions as an electric path through which the load current flows, and is considered equivalent to the resistor R3. Then, the equivalent resistance value of the dry battery 3 rapidly increases as the forced discharge progresses, and it becomes difficult for current to flow. When the negative voltage generated between the terminals of the dry cell 3 by the forced discharge becomes equal to the forward voltage of the diode 23, most of the load current will flow through the diode 23. Thus, the terminal voltage of the dry cell 3 becomes equal to the forward voltage of the diode 23 connected in parallel. The value of this forward voltage changes a little depending on the magnitude of the load current, but is about −0.
It becomes constant at 9V. FIG. 3 shows the dry batteries 1 to 4 as described above.
6 is a graph showing the changes in the inter-terminal voltage and the load current flowing in the miniature light bulb 90 with the passage of time. Generally, the voltage required to electrolyze the water in the electrolytic solution of the dry battery is about −1.23V, so if the voltage between the terminals of the dry battery 3, which is a used battery, does not reach this value, the inside of the dry battery 3 No water is electrolyzed and no gas is generated. As described above, the voltage between the terminals of the dry battery 3 is constant at about -0.9 V, so that electrolysis is not performed. Therefore, dry cell 3
Liquid leakage from is prevented.

In the above embodiment, the case where the dry battery 3 is a used battery has been described, but the dry battery 3 is a new battery and the other dry batteries 1, 2 or 4 are used.
Similarly, when any one of them is a used battery, the forward voltage of the diode 21, 22 or 24 also keeps the terminal voltage of the dry battery 1, 2 or 4 constant at about -0.9V.

Next, the operation of the above second embodiment will be described. In FIG. 4, it is assumed that dry batteries 1, 2 and 4 are new unused batteries, and dry battery 3 is a used old battery. When the switch 105 is closed and the energization of the miniature light bulb 90 is started, the dry battery 3 is in the state of forced discharge as in the first embodiment. Immediately after the start of energization, the terminal voltage of the assembled battery A is high, and therefore the monitoring transistor 51 is conducting. Further, the terminal voltage of the assembled battery B is assumed to have a terminal voltage sufficient to make the monitoring transistor 52 conductive immediately after the start of energization. At this time, the output V1 of the monitoring transistor 51 is at H (HIGH) level. Further, the output V2 of the polarity converter 60 via the monitoring transistor 52 is also at the H level. The outputs V1 and V2 are output as a logical product of them in the logical product circuit 70, and as a result, the output V3 of the logical product circuit 70 is also at the H level. Then, since the output V3 is at the H level, the transistor 82 becomes conductive and the LED 81 lights up.

As described in the first embodiment, the dry battery 3 is equivalently a resistor, and the voltage across its terminals drops sharply after energization and eventually becomes a negative voltage. As a result, the terminal voltage of the assembled battery B also drops, and the terminal voltage is about 0.6.
When it drops to .about.0.7V, the monitoring transistor 52 becomes non-conductive. As a result, the output V2 of the polarity converter 60 becomes the L (LOW) level, and the output V3 of the AND circuit 70.
Also becomes L level. Therefore, the transistor 82 becomes non-conductive, and the LED 81 goes out. Only when this light is turned off does the user know that the dry cell is abnormal. Battery B
In the state in which the inter-terminal voltage of No. 1 has dropped to about 0.6 to 0.7 V, the inter-terminal voltage of the dry battery 3 is -0.9 to -1.0 V assuming that the inter-terminal voltage of the dry battery 4 is 1.6 V. Becomes The voltage between terminals of -0.9 to -1.0 V is a value (small absolute value) lower than the voltage (about -1.23 V) required for electrolysis of water in the electrolytic solution. Therefore, electrolysis is not performed, and at this time, no liquid leakage from the dry cell 3 occurs. Since the user can know the abnormality of the dry battery by turning off the LED 81 and stop using the device, the liquid leakage from the dry battery 3 can be prevented.

In the second embodiment, the case where the dry battery 3 is a used battery has been described, but the same applies when the dry battery 3 is a new battery and the dry battery 4 is a used battery. It becomes the operation of. Further, when the dry batteries 3 and 4 are new batteries and either the dry battery 1 or 2 is a used battery, the monitoring transistor 51 becomes non-conductive due to the decrease in the terminal voltage of the assembled battery A, and the logic Since the output V3 of the product circuit 70 becomes L level, the LED 81 is turned off as in the above description of the operation.

[Third Embodiment] FIG. 5 is a circuit diagram showing a third embodiment. In this embodiment, an electronic switch circuit 85 is provided instead of the notification circuit 80 in the second embodiment. Since other configurations are the same as those in the second embodiment,
The same reference numerals are given and the description thereof is omitted. In FIG.
The electronic switch circuit 85 includes a transistor 86 connected in series with the miniature light bulb 90, and a resistor 87 connected between the base of the transistor 86 and the-side electric circuit N2. Immediately after the switch 105 is closed,
Similar to the case of the second embodiment, the output V of the AND circuit 70
3 is at the H level, and as a result, the transistor 86 of the electronic switch circuit 85 becomes conductive and the miniature light bulb 90 is turned on. If the dry battery 3 continues to receive the forced discharge, the monitoring transistor 52 becomes non-conductive in the same manner as in the second embodiment. As a result, the output V3 of the AND circuit 70 becomes L level,
The transistor 86 of the electronic switch circuit 85 becomes non-conductive, and the miniature light bulb 90 is turned off. As a result of the transistor 86 becoming non-conductive and the load current being cut off, the forced discharge of the dry cell 3 is stopped. When the forced discharge is stopped, the voltage across the terminals of the dry battery 3 gradually starts to recover. Along with that, battery pack B
The voltage across the terminals of the
Conducts. Therefore, the transistor 86 becomes conductive again,
The miniature bulb 90 lights up. In the same manner, the miniature light bulb 90 is repeatedly turned on and off, but since the recovery of the inter-terminal voltage of the dry cell 3 is gradually delayed, the turn-off time is gradually lengthened.
As described in the second embodiment, the monitoring transistor 52 becomes non-conductive when the inter-terminal voltage of the dry battery 3 reaches -0.9 to -1.0V. Therefore, the AND circuit 7
Since the output V3 of 0 becomes L level and the transistor 86 becomes non-conductive, further forced discharge cannot be continued. Therefore, liquid leakage from the dry battery 3 can be prevented, and the blinking of the miniature light bulb 90 can inform the user that the dry battery is abnormal.

This embodiment shows the case where the number of series-connected dry batteries constituting the dry battery power source 100 is an odd number (five in this example). The dry batteries 1 and 2 form an assembled battery A, and the dry batteries 3 and 4 form an assembled battery B, respectively. Also,
A diode 25 is connected to the dry cell 5 in parallel and with opposite polarity. The other structure is similar to that of the third embodiment, and therefore, the same reference numerals are given and the description thereof is omitted. Dry battery 1
If any of the batteries 4 to 4 is a used dry battery, the miniature light bulb 90 blinks to notify the user of the abnormality as described in the third embodiment. Further, when the terminal voltage of the used dry battery reaches -0.9 to -1.0 V, the output V3 of the AND circuit 70 becomes L level and the transistor 86 becomes non-conductive, so that the forced discharge further continues. There is no need to be Therefore, leakage from a used dry battery is prevented in advance. On the other hand, when the dry battery 5 is a used dry battery, as described in the first embodiment, the forward voltage of the diode 25 connected in parallel causes the terminal voltage of the dry battery 5 to be electrolyzed. Preventing the required voltage from being reached.

[Fifth Embodiment] FIG. 7 is a circuit diagram showing a fifth embodiment. In this embodiment, a transistor 49, a resistor 48 and a backflow prevention diode 29 are added to the configuration of the third embodiment, and instead of the switch 105 (FIG. 5) of the third embodiment, between the negative side electric lines N1 and N2. Only switch 1
06 is provided. The other structure is similar to that of the third embodiment, and therefore, the same reference numerals are given and the description thereof is omitted. In FIG. 7, the transistor 49 is inserted between the + side electric circuit P and the emitter (or the resistor 62) of the transistor 51. The base of the transistor 49 and the negative electric circuit N
A resistor 48 is connected between the two. The backflow prevention diode 29 is inserted between the collector of the monitoring transistor 51 and the resistor 71. When the switch 106 is closed, the transistor 49 becomes conductive, and the circuit becomes substantially the same as the circuit shown in FIG. Further, when the switch 106 is opened, the transistor 49 becomes non-conductive and cuts off the weak current used for monitoring the terminal voltage of the assembled battery A. The diode 29 has a base resistance 48 from the transistor 49, a resistance 87 of the electronic switch circuit 85, and a resistance 7 of the AND circuit 70 when the switch 106 is open.
1, and is inserted in order to prevent current from flowing backward in the path reaching the collector-base junction of the monitoring transistor 51. The other operations are the same as those in the third embodiment, and the description thereof will be omitted.

Although each of the above-described embodiments has been described with respect to the structure for preventing the liquid leakage caused by the mixture of the new and old dry batteries, these structures have different capacities of different types of batteries,
For example, the same effect can be obtained when a manganese battery and an alkaline battery are mixed. In addition, in general, when a user accidentally reverse-connects one of the dry batteries to be connected in series (+-is reversed) at the time of loading the dry battery, this may cause leakage of the dry battery. There is. As a measure for preventing such a reverse connection, for example, the structure of the battery housing is
By adopting a structure adapted to the shape of the terminal, a structure is used which prevents electrical contact from being obtained in the positive electrode lead of the battery accommodating portion when the battery is incorrectly loaded in reverse. By using such a structural reverse connection preventing device as a battery accommodating portion of a dry battery power source, in addition to the effects of each of the above-described embodiments, it is possible to completely prevent liquid leakage from the dry battery in case of any incorrect use of the dry battery. You can Further, in the fifth embodiment, even if the switch 106 is closed while the dry battery 2 is reversely connected, the terminal voltage of the assembled battery A is almost 0 V, and the transistor 51 is non-conductive. Therefore, the output of the AND circuit 70 becomes L level, the transistor 86 becomes non-conductive, and the miniature light bulb 90 does not light. As a result, the user can discover that the dry battery is reversely connected. In this way, the monitoring transistor 51 or 52 can detect the abnormal voltage generated by the reverse connection, which is advantageous in that it is not necessary to provide the reverse connection prevention device as described above. Also,
In the first embodiment, the diodes 21 to 24 prevent leakage by utilizing their forward voltage, but it goes without saying that a transistor can be used instead of the diode to perform the same function. . Furthermore, in the second, third and fifth embodiments, by inserting a constant voltage element, for example a diode, in series with the base resistance of the monitoring transistors 51 and 52, the detection voltage of the monitoring transistors 51 and 52 can be increased. It can be 1.2 to 1.4V. In this case, the discharge end voltage of the used battery is −
It is 0.4 to -0.2 V, and the progress of the forced discharge can be stopped earlier.

In the dry battery power supply device according to the first aspect, since the diodes are connected in parallel with respect to each of the plurality of dry batteries and the polarities thereof are reversed, a certain dry battery is in a forced discharge state and its terminal voltage is positive. Even when the voltage becomes negative, the forward voltage causes the diode to maintain the terminal voltage at a predetermined negative voltage such that electrolysis does not occur inside the dry cell. Therefore,
Since electrolysis is not performed inside the dry cell and gas is not generated, liquid leakage from the dry cell can be prevented in advance.
