In the method of forming an image by forming or releasing such a dye and diffusing (transferring), in order to promote the formation, release and diffusion (transferring) of the dye,
Some means (eg high heat, high pH, pressure, ultrasound,
Electromagnetic waves, etc.) are generally used. Among these promoting means, a combination of high heat and high pH, or a combination of high heat and pressure is generally used. In particular, the pH is advantageous for distinguishing the image forming condition of dye formation or release from the image forming condition before storage.

In a so-called image forming system which does not use a developing solution, as a means for distinguishing between pH during storage and pH during image formation, a base generation method by a reaction of two neutral compounds is disclosed in, for example, JP-A-60-169585. It has been proposed in the issue. This method is extremely effective in distinguishing between the time of image formation and the time of storage before that. However, it has been found that the image formed by this method contains a large amount of salts during its storage, so that a decrease in gloss which is considered to be associated with it is observed. Therefore, there has been a demand for means for solving these problems.

The presence of the salt in the image-receiving element after image formation has various effects. For example, deterioration of gloss, influence of fastness to temperature, humidity and light, and influence on film strength, curl and the like which are considered to be accompanied by change of film quality. The relationship between these changes in performance and the above-mentioned salt is not clear, but the effect of the salt on inhibiting or promoting dyeing, mordant, etc. of the dye in the image-receiving element, or the presence of the salt causes The effect of increasing the equilibrium water content, the precipitation of the salt itself and the precipitation of other compounds due to the salting-out effect, the effect of promoting phase separation by the salt, or the effect of increasing the compatibility are considered.

It cannot be clearly explained that the above-mentioned change in performance is improved by using the compounds of the general formulas (1) to (3) of the present invention together. In the image forming method of the present invention, the chelating agent represented by the general formula (1) or (2) and the poorly water-soluble metal compound represented by the general formula (3) are added in the presence of water. The base obtained by the reaction is used. From the principle, a salt in which the group represented by Bk + in the general formula (1) and the general formula (2) is replaced with the group represented by W m in the general formula (3) is formed in the image forming process. To generate. At this time, the complex salt according to the general formula (1) having a central metal derived from the general formula (3), the complex salt according to the general formula (2), and the complex salt having both the general formulas (1) and (2) as ligands are It is formed. These mixtures are believed to interfere with each other's crystallization. Further, it is considered that the solubility of the complex salt in water as a whole and the solubility of the membrane containing water are different. It is presumed that the membrane structure of the dye-fixing element itself may change due to these differences. It seems that it shows the above effects.

The present invention can be used for all photographic image forming methods by the diffusion transfer method, but since it is particularly preferably used for the image forming method by thermal development, the thermal development system will be described. The heat-developable photosensitive element used in the present invention basically has a photosensitive silver halide emulsion and a binder on a support, and further, if necessary, an organic metal salt oxidizing agent and a dye-donating compound (described later). In some cases, the reducing agent may also serve as such). These components are often added to the same layer, but they may be added separately in different layers. For example, when a colored dye-donor compound is present in the lower layer of the silver halide emulsion, the reduction in sensitivity can be prevented. The reducing agent is preferably incorporated in the photothermographic element, but it may be supplied from the outside by, for example, a method of diffusing from a dye fixing element described later.

In order to provide the photosensitive silver halide used in the present invention with green-sensitive, red-sensitive and infrared-sensitive color sensitivity, the photosensitive silver halide emulsion is spectrally sensitized with a methine dye or the like. . Further, if necessary, the blue-sensitive emulsion may be spectrally sensitized in the blue region. The dyes used include cyanine dyes, merocyanine dyes, complex cyanine dyes, complex merocyanine dyes, holopolar cyanine dyes, hemicyanine dyes, styryl dyes and hemioxonol dyes. Specifically, US Pat.
617,257, JP-A-59-180,550, JP-A-64-13,546, JP-A-5-45,828 and JP-A-5-45,834. In the present invention, silver can be used as the image forming substance. In addition, when silver ions are reduced to silver under high temperature conditions, they may contain a compound that generates or releases a mobile dye corresponding to this reaction or vice versa, that is, contains a dye-donating compound. it can. Examples of the dye-donating compound that can be used in the present invention include a compound (coupler) that forms a dye by an oxidative coupling reaction. The coupler may be a 4-equivalent coupler or a 2-equivalent coupler. A 2-equivalent coupler having a diffusion resistant group as a leaving group and forming a diffusible dye by an oxidative coupling reaction is also preferable. The diffusion resistant group may form a polymer chain.

No. 4,740,445, JP-A-61-238,0.
The method described in No. 56, etc., in which development and transfer are carried out simultaneously or continuously by heating in the presence of a small amount of solvent (particularly water) is preferable. In this method, the heating temperature is preferably 50 ° C. or higher and not higher than the boiling point of the solvent. For example, when the solvent is water, the temperature is preferably 50 ° C to 100 ° C. Examples of the solvent used for acceleration of development and / or diffusion transfer of dye include:
Water, a basic aqueous solution containing an inorganic alkali metal salt or an organic base (the bases described in the section of the image formation accelerator are used), a low boiling point solvent or a low boiling point solvent and water or the above base. A mixed solution with a polar aqueous solution may be mentioned. Further, a surfactant, an antifoggant, a complex-forming compound with a poorly soluble metal salt, an antifungal agent, and an antibacterial agent may be contained in the solvent. Water is preferably used as the solvent used in the steps of heat development and diffusion transfer, but any commonly used water may be used. Specifically, distilled water, tap water, well water, mineral water and the like can be used. Further, in the heat developing apparatus using the photothermographic element and the dye fixing element of the present invention, water may be used up, or may be circulated for repeated use.
In the latter case, water containing the components eluted from the material will be used. Further, JP-A-63-144,354 and 63

The experimental results shown in Tables 14 to 17 are summarized below. Unless otherwise specified, the compound represented by the general formula (1) was added to the second layer and the third layer of the dye fixing element. The same effect of suppressing gloss reduction was observed when any of the sodium salt, potassium salt, lithium salt and guanidinium salt of the compound of the general formula (2) was added. When two or more compounds of the general formula (2) were added, or when two or more compounds of the general formula (2) having different salts were added, the same effect of suppressing gloss reduction as when used alone was observed. The effect of suppressing the decrease in gloss was observed when the compound of the general formula (2) was added as follows. 1. When added to both the second layer and the third layer of the dye fixing element (R02 to 19) 1. When added only to the second layer of the dye fixing element (R2
